Why do I feel that Henry (like any of us allowed to drive a fire engine) did not have to dig too deep to find his inner 5-year-old ! Another excellent film - 6.16 - "It's a Fire Engine!"

I've built one of these from red lego over 20 years ago, because i saw one in my dad's land rover owners international. it looked absolutely nothing like the original. more like a red box with 6 wheels. but hey. that's what it is. :D

I can't help but look at Henry driving the Defender and think "why on earth is the seat back so short. Is it a fire engine for midgets?" Poor Henry, the seat back barely comes half way his back while the head rest is neck hight. Awesome ergonomics Land Rover 👍

Someone has already replied reqarding the different sirens and they are partly correct - the reason for the different sirens is that in built up areas you get multiple reflected siren sounds which confuse drivers as to the true direction of the emergency vehicle. The faster the siren sound the better driver perception of where the emergency vehicle is coming from. and the faster the siren sound also gives drivers the perception or urgency to move out of the way. Thousands of tests and many University degrees have been completed on Siren research. There's also massive research work on the colours used on emergency vehicles

FYI, The different tones archive different distance, two tone for open longer roads as it travel further and subdues on passing. The other tones for change of pace such as slow pass at traffic lights to alert public when they’ve been use to two tone then change of tone when closer. Also of travelling in convoy second vehicle will attempt to transmit a different tone to the lead vehicle as public never look for the second vehicle, or third.

My work pump can pump the same amount and more at close to 10,000psi and is powered by a V12 twin turbocharged 28L, 1000hp CAT. Yet I'd still have this Landy any day of the week.

I am almost certain that the defender fire engine based at Gaydon was a V8 with carbs. When business protection arrived at our building, during the many false alarms, they would invariably leave the choke wide open!

How about a history of Carmichael (the original LR/RR 6x6 conversions that were primarily used for fire engines), or their current successors Foley.

The RR/Carmichael Commando back in the 1970s was a 6x4. They had a floating rear axle, which wasn't powered.

How does 6x6 work on a road? Does it mess up the diffs? When I had a '98 Hilux I was told not to lock in the diffs on tarmac as you'll do loads of damage in not so long amount of time as the wheels can't move independently especially when cornering..
@Happymali105 жыл бұрын
So...was it registered during the first years? Because if it wasn't, in a lot of countries (like Germany), you wouldn't be able to register it now, since it would have to follow current laws for new cars.

GOOD GAWD NO! Think how many homes would burn and people would die if this thing were used for ANY emergency situation! I’ve owned one, it got to the point where I couldn’t trust the thing to go get milk! 3 transmissions, several dozen misc. electrical or other failures, and almost 10 tows in just two years! I sold it at 47,000 miles and never looked back. But this idea... EPICALLY BAD!!!
