The phrase "we want to walk with you people" was said by Vincent Lingiari, an Aboriginal leader, in 1966. He was addressing the Australian government at a ceremony in which he accepted a land rights agreement on behalf of the Gurindji people. The full quote is as follows: "We don't want money. We want our land back. We want to walk with you people as equals." In 2007, Lingiari's words were inscribed on a plaque at the Australian Parliament House. The plaque reads: "We don't want money. We want our land back. We want to walk with you people as equals." This quote proves that aboriginals are not one or homogenous. Vincent Lingiari got land rights, equals, and money. But that was then and now is now. A new or revitalised brew has surfaced on that success to demand more. So for the PM it is a poison Challis, and for Australia, it is a Trojan Horse. Both these situations appear to be be gifts, but they are not.

Some people do want reparations but whether they get them or not will be solely up to the Government to decide - not the Voice. If we vote no to the Voice simply because some people want things that they probably won't get, then we will miss out on all the good that we expect the Voice will be able to achieve when it comes to housing, health, education and employment for the most disadvantaged A&TSI communities.

The last time I looked, this country was a DEMOCRACY, one person one VOTE !! Everything about "The Voice" and the 26 pages of the Uluru Statement from the Heart is that among many things is the ability to form a singular/unified First nations body to have a Treaty. Something that was never possible as the First Nations People who were spread right across Australia , fractured groups of people who were never able to get along. This Treaty will then lead to another level of Government, at the tax payers expense, and also give First Nations Peoples TWO votes over a Democratic Government !!! I will be exercising my democratic vote NO.

Voice, treaty and detail, Land and property grab, money, and division. Didn’t they already have a referendum in 1967 to recognise indigenous people in the constitution? Before anything is done there needs to be an audit and investigation as to where all this money has gone, what it has been spent on and also an investigation into the elders, the indigenous councils, and other bodies including the niaa. Where is the audited report, logistics, due diligence, governance laws, bills, stakeholders, policies, procedures, overseerers ? If the tribes cannot all get along how are they going to implement a voice on their behalf. May I add this as my take on this issue, back in 1967, I did at the referendum of the time did give the Aboriginal, as many Australians did also vote, yes well 90% of Australians voted YES, so that they could vote in all government elections. Therefore they already have an equal rights as any other Australian to vote and make their own minds up as to whom to vote for.

It won't - because the Voice will ONLY be able to provide advice. If the No side wins at the Referendum, people who want to can still pursue "treaty and compensation" without the Voice existing. The absence of the Voice will not affect their aims at all. No detail is a huge problem. The other chapters specifically prescribe duties, authorities and accountabilities...the proposed new chapter does not have any. That goes against the whole structure of the Constitution. On that ground alone the model is flawed.

Australia should embrace a more nomadic lifestyle, reminiscent of traditional practices, where respect for all living organisms is paramount. Unfortunately, what we see instead is a society grappling with the highest depression rates globally, with suicide ranking as the leading cause of death among individuals aged 15 to 45. And the leaders of mass extinction and environmental destruction. This situation is deeply concerning. To address these issues, we should consider a return to the ancestral roots of tribalism within Aboriginal culture, emphasizing community and harmony with the environment as guiding principles. This approach might offer a path toward a more sustainable and mentally healthier society. We need to stop development as it has only lead to harm for Australia.

Nobody is stopping anybody for all of us to walk together and as far as I can see we are. There is a new multi storey (10 or more levels) student accommodation at Redfern. I heard that the cost of redeveloping that area was going to cost 250 million. Not sure what the final figure would be. Nobody objected to any of it. Everyone should have the opportunity to study at university if that is what they want. As for the gift they speak of. What is being given? A lot of division and bad feelings is all I am seeing. I have heard that this truth telling could take up to ten years. As we have no details of this who can say! In the truth telling will anything nice to be said. Personally, this proposition does not 'feel' like a gift i.e. the Oxford Dictionary definition: GIFT, a thing given willingly to someone without payment. I recall reading that Malcolm Turnbull's government agreed to fund the initial dialogue at Uluru and since then significant funding has been set aside for its development and implementation (around $27.7 million of public funds), so in no way does the Uluru Statement from the Heart, meet the aforementioned definition of a 'gift'. Perhaps there is a deeper meaning here that needs to be better communicated.

As the Prime Minister cannot provide full details, until after, it may be risky to vote Yes. It would be better if there were two questions in the referendum. 1: Do you support an Aboriginal Voice to parliament etc., etc. 2: Do you want it to be permanently enshrined in the constitution. Unfortunately that won't happen, so I believe that we should all be cautious on this matter, and vote No.

We seem to be powerless as a society to distinguish between two very distinct groups of people: 1) Those who are both racially and culturally very different, living outside of of the culture of our suburban society, who rightly ask "why are you mob making decisions for us?" versus (2) People who are members of our suburban society, who are culturally indistinguishable from us, who talk and act like us, who even share a lot of the same ancestry as us, but have some ancestry from the first group. It feels like a total scam that the likes of Pat Anderson and Megan Davis, who are successful members of OUR collective tribe (modern, European/migrant derived suburban Australia), can claim to be representatives of the first group and demand control of money and institutional power within the modern society that they have thrived in.

More than 99% are mixed blood of varying degrees who self identify as Aboriginals. There are about 5000 genuine full blood native Aboriginals left in Australia, none in Tasmania.

The constitutionally binding Voice will give power of attorney over tribal lands. The Tribesmen do not recognised those with a European ancestry as Aboriginal and the proponant's of the Voice know it. That's why they have set up an election system that excludes the lawmen, elders or spirit men from ever holding office. The land council's do the same, meeting the wishes of the multinationals who govern our politicians, surely people have come to realise that fact since 2020.
