Killer Instinct! Wow, in this episode I confront a Blue Heeler who attacks dogs and humans. Veda is an adopted rescue dog who has been an absolute nightmare. The destructive behavior needs to be resolved as soon as possible before things get dangerous. Blue Heeler's are cattle herding dogs so the first step is to see how she is around other animals. Let's see how it goes.

I have a Red Heeler and I knew before I got him that I had to dedicate a significant amount of time each day in order to meet his needs. You cannot keep this breed locked in a yard or in the house and expect a calm obedient dog. I walk my boy 4 miles a day and he has 2 afternoon all-out-run sessions. I have the time because I'm retired. But this breed NEEDS to have something to do.

As a human sitting around counting the flowers on the wallpaper or number of floor tiles gets old fast. Imagine how a professional athlete would feel stuck on the sofa. High energy breeds and a smart breed. Given a job to do, working thier brain and thier legs will be a very happy dog.

@karenlindsey6362 I wrote a comment at the top of this page advocating for Australian cattle dogs because I know the breed well being Australian. Ranger my dog I took off a suburban street when he was 1 yr as a rescue. I trained him for 2 mths before I took him out on the road with my horse to get to forest trails. Ranger always stayed at the left fetlock but came up to my side when I dismounted. He did not pay attention to other dogs that lay behind fences barking/growling. I was able to send him off the road by hand signals if the horse was troubled and I was concentrating on settling the horse. I had an experience with Ranger and cattle. I went on a picnic on private land that had Brahmin cattle. Very big cows! Our picnic blanket/food was spread out and left when we left to walk a creek line. When we came back 3 cows were on the blanket nudging the esky/baskets. Ranger just looked and did nothing initially. We couldn't spook the cows off as well as noticing more cows were approaching to join the herd. In all 21 cows hovered around. I said quietly to Ranger....''get the cows''. He went across the blanket and jumped at face of a cow. This caused them to push back. Ranger then got behind them nipping their heels to assemble them in a block to move them pointing them away from the blanket. They didn't move quick enough for Ranger so he nipped them a few more times to get them trotting. After 50m Ranger decided he had moved them far enough away. He raced back to me with a big grinning face. For that effort Ranger got 1/3 of the BBQ chicken we had brought as part of our lunch. RIP Ranger forever in my heart.

As soon as I saw the breed I thought “This dog needs a job”. And sure enough that’s all it was. I love the work that Caesar does. I have a 2yr old pitbull (Scout) that I rescued last year and he’s amazing but came with a few issues. We sought out a trainer to help but he boarded my dog for 4wks and held feedings for training purposes and didn’t resolve our main issue which is resource guarding of ME from my husband, but he sleeps right next to him in the bed and with me all day. I’m the one who did all the work training him because my hubby works. He’s super high energy and I take him to stores that will allow him in, he absolutely loves it and is a perfect gentleman. I’m not able to bathe him at home because he freaks out so I pay for him to go to a groomer for a bath and nails twice a month, he has pretty bad skin allergies so sometimes he needs a bath more often and it would be nice to just be able to give him a bath. I’ve never used a groomer or a trainer and I’ve had dogs my whole life & I’ve had pitbulls before too, he’s just special. He’s extremely territorial at home, he wants to go through the window at any delivery people but I can’t anticipate them to crate him. We got him a crate when we got him and he broke out several times and hurt himself, it could’ve been so much worse so we got a square tube crate and he can’t break out of that. He’s great with my 10yr old grandson but he’s severely ADHD & Autistic and Scout feeds off his energy, I’ve taught him how to handle him and it’s a process but he’s doing amazing with the Scout. I refuse to give up on my sweet Scout, I know there are people that do just because it’s not the perfect dog but there’s not perfect people either!!

As Cesar has said a million times u MUST get a dog that suits ur lifestyle, where u live, time u have even ur age & fitness. Working, sporting & many terrier's need certain types of training, a lot of exercise & they're dogs that r just NOT for first (& maybe second) time dog parents. Please people make good choices. I have worked with animals for 60+ years. There isn't much I can't handle but that doesn't mean I want to. I usually have Bull Terrier's or German Shepard's. I have a Bull Terrier now. They're great dogs. I actually used to breed them for show, years ago. Again, this breed is not for everyone. They're very stubborn & don't always listen well. He happens to b very friendly & loves other dogs & cats as well ( I have 2 ex-feral kitties in the house now). As good as he is I wouldn't let him off leash. I can take him to a dog park, but I must b certain it's fenced in

Cesar's done a good job here, yet in the end, this is another case of a breed & owner mismatch. There's no shame in discovering you and a dog aren't compatible - we've all had breakups, and no one suggests we stay with a partner once we learn we aren't compatible. The "happy ending" to this story would be re-homing this dog - if a cattle farm isn't available, then at least someone very active. Heelers are also tremendous hikers & climbers. They have a lot of pent-up power in a compact, muscular frame, and that, coupled with stamina & strong forward-drive makes them exceptionally agile at clambering over rocky terrain. It would be great to see this dog find an owner who can meet her needs - and it's likely that this young couple would be happier with a less explosively energetic dog - the sort of companion they thought they were getting!

On Australian Cattle Dog Colors it says-"the so-called Bentley mark or star. It is a blaze of white on the pup’s forehead. Legend has it that one of the founding breeder name Thomas Bentley selectively bred his dogs for this distinctive mark. 2 minutes in and he says "I think you have your work cut out for you". Me: It's a frustrated cattle dog, it'll be easy. All it needs is a job and some simple training. Do people not even take the time to Google a dog breed before adopting? If you can't even do that, you don't deserve to adopt a dog until you can take the time to put in the basic effort.

No, they often don't. I had 6 rescue Huskies because people see how beautiful they are but don't want to know that they need a tremendous amount of exercise. I tried talking people out of getting one if I knew they were low or mid energy people that weren't going to devote themselves to making sure the dog got enough exercise. Still drives me crazy to see any dog not getting even so much as a daily walk.

Very responsible owners! First, they chose to adopt a dog that was calm (or so they thought) which is something so many people won't do because they feel it's cool to have an active dog; second - something you don't see that often - they put a muzzle on her once they'd seen how she was around other dogs. Third, they got help relatively quickly instead of letting that behaviour go on for years. Considering the circumstances, they did good! And they learned fast. Thumbs up!

If you get a dog- research the breed before you get it and make sure it’s needs can be met by your lifestyle. As a furr-baby parent it’s their responsibility to meet the dogs needs- just like keeping your kids in extra curricular activities to enrich their lives and meet their individual mental/physical needs. Huge fan of Cesar. THANK YOU FOR YOUR WORK AND TEACHINGS!

This was an absolutely great segment and it’s giving me a new Hope for my miniature pincher. Maybe I need to find an indoor agility course to run out his energy because he does love to attack dogs when we’re on our walks. Doesn’t even matter what the size of the dog is. He will definitely try to go for them.

Got a min pin too. They can be challenging. If you cant find an agility place near you, you can buy small home equipment on chewey.

I had a parsons jack russell. Right from the start I allowed him to mix with other dogs. He loved all the big dogs. Leonbergers, rottweillers, German shepherds, he loved them all. Occasionally a dog would bite him, but he would walk away. Dogs are like naughty children and will squabble amongst themselves. Cesar is right, it's humans that are to blame for their dogs' behaviour.

I have a blue heeler. If he doesn't have several HOURS of intense exercise, ie running, he is horrible. They aren't a dog for a "household". They are WORKING DOGS.

We have created dogs for every lifestyle. Please get the correct breed/temperament for yourself. Take your time and be honest with your time and abilities on what kind of pet to get. Working dogs need to work. House dogs need to Netflix and chill. Which one are you?

If you google Blue Heeler and look at how to care for them, LITERALLY THE FIRST SENTENCE IS "If a blue heeler does not get an outlet for their energy, they can become bored and left to their own devices for entertainment-which could mean chewed-up shoes, furniture, or other destruction in the home." These owners really did absolutely fuck all research about their dog. How incredibly frustrating.

I don't believe this dog is a pure blue heeler, if you look at blue heelers in Australia (where the breed originates from) you won't see adult dogs with a white body. Puppies are born white but that changes with age. I' suspect American breeders are adding things and still calling it a blue heeler.

@@bricesicle my bad. This kind, nothing. Those nylon lip tents, if they need to pant, they can't and very bad things can ensue. But a free breather - nothing that I know of. My fault. (I got to showing my husband so he can work with his "real wife" 🤭🐕‍🦺 and forgot to correct myself.

I had friends come over with a very young puppy. I didn’t know what breed it was but watching it I told them that this dog will not be good with children. They then told me it was an Australia cattle dog. Those dogs unless properly trained and handled will try to herd the kids and snap at them if they have pent up energy. Give them a job or they’ll create one for themselves.

It's frustrating when irresponsible dog owners bring aggressive dogs to public areas, and it’s heartbreaking to see the impact it has on other dogs. My Aussie, who’s just over a year old, was attacked several times while I was trying to socialize her as a puppy. Now, whenever we’re out and she sees another dog, she starts growling and barking out of fear, thinking they’re going to attack us. The owners of the dogs that attacked her always insisted their dogs were "not aggressive" and "would be fine," but then they attacked her anyway. Later, I found out these dogs had a history of aggression, yet their owners kept bringing them back to dog-friendly areas. It’s irresponsible and damaging to others.

Heelers are fear biters. Having said that, I've bread Australian Cattle Dogs for 25 years and she looks to me like a cross breed (coat colours, broad face, stockier than I'd expect for 1+ year old). Heelers are super smart and respond to firm training, but need lots of activity to wear them out somewhat, so that they can focus. Dont get a working breed dog if you're not willing/able to work them

The show needs to portray every case as a resounding success, but you can tell by the owners' faces that she's not doing as well and they pretend. You can see some improvement, and hopefully they managed to keep going. But the body language doesn't lie.

People need to get dogs suited for their environment. My heeler is very aggressive but gets the outlet from living on 10 acres with cows next to us. He sneaks over there to chase cows, luckily no one lives there to yell at him! But I’d never have him if I lived in a small, confined area. Heelers need to be on farms.
