May's test makes sense. There's a reason why despite being rich, some rich guys in poor countries don't buy supercars or GT cars but rather buy luxury barges like S-Class, Maybachs, Rolls Royce or even the Bentley is because of a few factors. Speed and power isn't everything. It's how you apply it that makes it fast. You can drive a 92hp Suzuki Swift and still outbeat a 500hp Lamborghini in a countryside as those roads are bumpy and bad and while your Lambo may have the speed, you'll have to slow down to a crawl in order to not scratch the paint or damage the bodyworks due to expensive repairs if you do that. However in that Swift, you can plant your foot flat to the ground and just toss it around without a care if you scratch or ding something as the repair bills for those things are 10x cheaper than your GT/supercars. Now a Rolls and other luxury barges might not have the same repair bill as a Suzuki but their ride height are way higher than a normal GT/supercar thus when it goes on a bad road, it will not scratch the undercarriage so badly that it gives you worry and because it doesn't scrape, it could maintain a better speed per distance vs a contemporary GT car. May's experiment absolutely makes sense.
@tokul76

They were in Russia. Could have selected any of those "Lada"s instead of Renault. Local name for VAZ-210x is not Lada. The one with squire lamps is from same times as Renault 9. Maybe slightly older.

I will miss the old format of the studio(tent) with audience, but as long as Jeremy, James, and Richard get to have special road trips, more of the content that we've come to love over the years, without the tent, then more power to Amazon in supporting the three best car show hosts to ever live.

This was one of my favorite tests on TGT as it does make sense. You can only go as fast as external factors around you allow, so a town like this will definately hold a faster car back. Heck, I felt held back in my normal sedan often due to all of the slowpokes and constant redlights I get in my own town. However, here's the problem with Captian Slow's test, it depends entirely on the area. Some areas will have factors that would allow their GT cars to catch up to the Renault. If they were on the Autobahn, the outcome would be different.

I remember when my mom took me to a local drag racing track when i was a kid, at the end of the night they had a open division and a person in a old ford ranger entered. it was so slow that the assigned handicaps to the faster car (amount of time they have to wait at the start due to the difference in speed) was so massive, it beat every single car it raced against. the faster the car the further down the strip he was before they got to start, in a couple of cases he was feet from the finish line before the big speed demon even left the start line. It was hilarious.

I was not referring to Abbie, just that Grand Tour has gotten back into the groove they were in before GT. There's nobody that will ever replace Stig (Ben Collins), and Abbie is less of a forced "character" especially when compared to The American. That segment was more enjoyable than others, and although I can't speak for others, I'll give her a chance.
