Well y'all, it's been a long, fun trip, and we appreciate the heck out of you for being there for it. Fanatik is moving away from long form videos for now, and along with that, Logan and I are moving on to other things. You can still catch Logan working with Jeff Kendall-Weed behind the camera, and maybe if you're lucky, in front of it! I'm not sure where I'll wind up, but regardless, I'll be seeing you out on the trails. Sincerely, Dan P

I've ridden and owned MTB, EMTB, BMX and dirt bikes. For me the best ride I've ever had on a bicycle doesn't even come close to an avarage ride on a dirt bike. That being said if the avarage person asked me what they should choose I'd suggest a bicycle, they are so much easier to treat as a hobby. You can ride a couple of times a week, barely do any maintenance, pop to work or the shops on it or just very easily carry it with any vehicle you have. Dirt bikes really work as a full on passion, to get the most out of riding dirt bikes you really have to live your whole life around them, learning to maintain them, finding riding areas, requiring a dedicated vehicle to transport them, cleaning them every ride blah blah, for every hour riding I likely spend at least two on getting to ride the hour. For me it's well worth it but I understand it wouldn't be for everyone

With the ebikes you can also enjoy a 30 miles enduro ride with slightly less effort on long climbs, and “skip” that annoying part. Also Mtb/emtbs you can enjoy the silence, listen the nature and look around, explore new trails. Emtbs/mtbs are in Italy allowed every where, dirt bikes are the opposite, you’re basically illegal everywhere you ride

Yeah, dirt bikes are fully illegal here in Georgia. The only bikes you are allowed to ride on trails are 1st class e mtbs. It's a waste of money to buy a dirt bike.

Dirt bikers are just overall better riders, they are going faster and bigger on a bike that literally has worse geometry for what they do lol The geometry of most dirt bikes matches the geo of an old school XC bike. But they still send it over 70 foot gaps on stock suspension lol Dirt bikers make good road bikers too, probably the best 2 wheeler riders in the world are dirt bikers. You don't survive long without being super skilled lol

Coming from an MX background, then Mtb & now ebikes, I've found the best compromise.....a 2500 watt mid-drive ebike that weighs 65lbs. On tight trails (where you can't go over 30mph on a dirtbike), this bike is a weapon. Best of both worlds, enough power to go fast in the woods & not have to man-handle a 230lb dirtbike which you are only using 5-10hp most of the time. There is also the whole Surron category of emotos with 10-50hp that weigh 125-225lbs that when modified can do the job quite nicely & can be had for $ 4,000 - $ 15,000.

I ride an analog (Ripmo), eMTB (Levo), and 2018 KTM 300 XCW (live in Lake Tahoe so have a lot of diverse trails nearby). Cool video and I am often questioning what do I have the most fun on. Easily the Ripmo is an ass kicker in terms of exertion. The KTM is super fun on long rides but gearing up, bringing tools, noise, etc is something to consider. The eMTB is fun for 15-30mile rides with friends and we can hear/talk to each other, gear up/load up easily, and maintenance is a piece of cake. I think if I had to choose one I would probably do the eMTB over everything else because of the fun factor.

I dont think its just the riding of the Moto that people to refer too. Its the fact that bicycle prices are so stupid now, that you could get something much more bang for buck, like a dirt bike, instead of a heavy, unreliable ebike.

Moto gives you more speed, distance and adrenaline rush (@ 60 plus mph). MTBs are easier to just go for a ride with less prep, cost and hassle, and are generally safer due to less weight and speed.

Trails, trails, trails. Where i live, there’s a lot of different options for mountain biking in different forests. Most of those forests are not open to dirt bikes. There are some dirt bike areas however you need to ride roads to connect forests, have a motorcycle licence, and need to have a lot more area to ride vs my MTB. On the other hand, if there were far more dirt bike areas compared to mtb riding spots locally, that would also influence my decision.

Also another thing with dirt bikes if your buddies aren’t as good as you, you won’t have fun because you can’t just have them walk a section like a mtb. But both are cool in their own ways

In Norway Moto is illegal in nature, apart from enduro courses and MX trails, unless it's private properly. So you won't find many places with signs saying to not do it. But some exist put up by land owners. But class 1 e bikes are treated like normal bikes, but you can ride on the other hand you can ride on any hiking trail with few receptions like protected land, and where land owner says otherwise with a sign. I've seen some farms have MX tracks on them.

I rode motos in the 70s. That said, You know I'm old. Back then, in my prime, we didn't have alternatives. Bikes were motos, bicycles were kid's modes of transportation or roadies cash dumpsters. Mountain bikes were whatever bike you had, ridden off paved track. I love 2 wheeled transport, for fun and necessity. Feet become outriggers in the snow, and you can go much faster safely than an auto any day. Both have a place, but with the advent of e assist, at 65, it helps me keep up with the group when I could not otherwise. Still waiting for something 30# or less, 5 hours ride time and around $5K. It's a goal. In the meantime, gotta muscle up an ebike or walk when I need to analogue. In the woods or on the road, I still do roadie, got a lot of friends there too, any ride is more fun than a couch.

Honestly the sweet spot for me right now seems to be retrofit mtb motors. CYC Motors X1 Pro Gen 3 can go up to 5000W of THROTTLED NON-PEDAL POWER. The motor weighs ~6 lbs and a battery of your choice can be between 5 lbs - 15 lbs depending on size. All for about $1900 pretax. The bike manufacturers right now can't legally sell above 750W without calling it a "dirt bike" so thats why you still have to pedal uphill on eMTB.

Then put a few miles of 2' wide trails that dirt bikes ride on.....total "destroyed" land ...about 1-2 acres. Then consider 20 years after dirt bikes stop riding on them ... presto....prestine nature again. What selfish misanthropist eco-Nazis like you don't possess is a vision of the big picture. The earth is 4.5 billion years old, & any damage done by mankind will, in time be taken back to it's natural state.
