Are Eye Floaters normal? Eye floaters commonly develop as we age and are usually not considered sight threatening. Eye floater symptoms may include moving spots in your vision and flashes, blurred vision or even complete vision loss in the event of a retinal detachment. Thankfully, eye floaters often improve on their own, otherwise floaters may be treated with a few surgical procedures. Learn about eye floater treatment here • Laser Surgery for Eye ...

I ate pineapple, including the stem, and either that improved it or the brain adjusted to it, though they were quite pregnant for years and then after a few months eating the pineapple stems, it got better. For everyone who has eye floaters and are currently in panic: keep on reading. I first encountered floaters when I was about 19 but somehow they moved out of my field of vision, then at 27 I suddenly had a bunch of them. At that time I also had bad anxiety, stress etc and I couldn’t stop looking for the floaters that it became a daily obsession. But: I overcame it. It WILL get better! Try to find the core of where the anxiety comes from, maybe with a little more help like therapy or someone you trust to talk to. Strangely, I still have floaters but I barely notice them because I’m not scared of them anymore. The mind is the magic! If I can do it, you can do it too!

I’m 29 and have bad floaters bilaterally. Had them almost 2 years now. Seems they get longer and stretch further across my vision as time goes on. It’s taken the joy of going outside. Looking at concrete, sand, clear skies, light colored walls, screens are awful. Sad there is not an easy solution. Like it’s 2022 now. People don’t realize how awful these can be.

@lenmancan the doctors are clueless too... they said it could be ageing, trauma to the eyes, anything literally. I had 0 causes. However, I did have a panic attack once or twice before noticing symptoms . I don't know if they are related. But the doctors brushed it off, saying it's not. But I'm not even 30, no known family history too. I'm not sure if there's a brain eye connection. I indeed was overthinking, and my mental health wasn't the greatest. Also, I started having an eustachian tube blocking on off in ears. I feel they all are connected, but doctors weren't curious enough... they just cared about treating to not lose sight, but not about the quality of vision dropping. Sad! I guess it's just my luck not to get a proper caring doctor who would show involvement. They just did laser barrage surgery and reassured me every time I went there. The floaters have stabilised but haven't gone. I'm trying 3rd eye chanting and trying to keep away from screens. The body should be able to heal itself. The science may not be aware of yet, let's see.

I have had floaters most of my life. Annoying, but not terrible. This Tuesday afternoon at work, I suddenly started seeing flashes and trailing lights on the periphery of my left eye. After going to the health center - I work in a large retirement community which has great on site health care - I was sent to the ER of the local hospital. But mostly due to my elevated blood pressure. I work in the kitchen which should explain that, lol. Got a cat scan and various blood tests which all came back fine. Went on line this morning and found my symptoms fit "posterior vitreous detachment". Turns out they are extremely common as you age. However, in a small percentage of cases, they can lead to a retinal detachment. I have an eye doctor appointment tomorrow. I really feel like this is what has happened because usually when I look away quickly, I can get a big eye floater to disappear off the the side or below my vision. Now when I do that, I can see it go down, then turn around and come back. So the space it is floating around in has been reduced. Can't wait to find out tomorrow! Lol.

A few years ago I suddenly had a massive increase in floaters, mostly black dots. I ignored it as previous floaters had mostly cleared on their own. A little later a "curtain" appeared in my top vision. After a while it got worse so I saw a NHS Optician who sent me straight to hospital as he diagnosed detached retina. The hospital confirmed this and said if they didn't operate that day I could go blind. They fitted me in and worked for 3 hours under local anaesthetic sucking out all my vitreous humor and replacing the retina which had a hole and a tear as well as the detachment. I had a pressurised gas bubble inserted to hold the retina in place and for 2 weeks had to lie with my head in 2 positions only to prevent the retina lifting. I was allowed to stand up for 10 minutes each hour to eat, wash etc. The bubble took 3 months to disperse before I got full sight back but with some after effects which took a good while to improve. 2 years later the other eye went but even worse requiring more ops, 10 hours in theatre all told. Thanks to the skill of my surgeon, I have pretty good sight, without him I surely would have been blind.

I have had eye floaters for years. My optometrist has warned me for years that I was at risk of a detached retina due to myopia and advised the warning symptoms. When overseas in July this year I suddenly developed a large number of black dots which obstructed my vision. I found an eye hospital in Hanoi which performed a laser repair of a torn retina. The Vietnamese opthalmologist advised that it would take months for the floaters to go away. They are no longer black because the blood has dispersed but still extremely annoying, causing eye strain if driving for more than three or four hours. The repair checked out OK when I returned home in August and returning for a checkup next month.

Stop to saying they are due mostly to age!! it started when I was 14 and this rot has only increased. However, I am not myopic and I live healthily. just anxious and spending time on screens.. so there must most definitely be a link! Medicine seriously needs to look into this because I can no longer count the number of moments wasted because of the embarrassment and stress this has caused me. today at 24 this crap has increased enormously in 10 years! there hasn't been a single day when I haven't thought about it mostly since about 2 years where I've seen a clear increase.. yet I've done all the possible exams and the retina is apparently ok. doctors say that with time you get used to it but the proof is that no, I never really managed to get used to it except at the beginning when I had much less. I think that at a certain stage, habituation is impossible!

Hi Doctor. Yes, I do have eye floaters… they do not bother me. 2 months ago I had cataract & glaucoma surgery. My ophthalmologist asked if I ever had eye trauma recently or when I was younger. I really did not want to relive the situation, however; I did open up about being a Survivor of sbs(shaken baby syndrome). My Dr said, “after what I saw in surgery, you are incredibly blessed to have not had a retinal detachment.” I am so thankful. This will be lifelong care of appointment’s every 3-4 months. My hope is to write a book and help others.🫶

I am EXTREMELY NERVOUS as I went to my Ophthalmologist just three days ago for seeing lightning bolt flashes in my left eye with no added floaters or vision change to my already very astigmatic eye. I had them start before Christmas. After examining me, he said that he did not see any retinal detachment and the pressure in both eyes was OK and it was probably just a tear in the vistrous(spelling?) membrane due to age. I am getting close to 60 now. He said to return in about a month if I still had a problem. The flashes were subsiding, I told him, for about a week now. After waking up this morning, just three days after seeing him, I noticed a dark floater building up in the bottom right corner of my left eye. Now, about 20 or so hours later, there is a LARGE amount of the gel-like fluid floating around almost half my eye sight! It appears that a LOT of the fluid had leaked out into the corner and bottom of my eye! Also, my vision is now duller/cloudier. I certainly doubt that a "floater" of THIS magnitude will improve on its own and I do not know what can be safely done on my eye. I can only think maybe YAG laser, which I do not know if my insurance will cover or the surgery that removes and changes the fluid in the eye. Most doctors shy clean away from that procedure because of the possible complications. That surgery makes ME VERY NERVOUS as well! Any ideas before I go back to see my eye doctor? Anyone else ever have this happen on a similar scale to mine? I am using a patch on and off today because it is VERY disturbing and plain SCARY! 😵

That happened to me a couple years ago it was very strange. It was a flash of light and then all the sudden I had eye floaters in my left eye. Then not 30 days later, the same thing happened in my right eye, and I’ve been living with these floaters ever Sense. I did have it checked out by a doctor and he said there’s not a problem, but I wish I could get rid of those eye floaters. It’s really scary when I’m driving. Most of the time I can manipulate them and move them out of the way by rotating my eye, but there are times that I can’t and I just pray one day they’ll have a way of removing those. Thank you kindly for the video and the information.

When i was in my 40's, it started feeling like sandpaper was scrapping my eyes everytime i blinked. Went to my eye doctor who rolled my upper eyelid back using a Q-tip. He saw lots of calcifications underneath my lid. He used tweezers to pluck them all out. They looked like little grains of sand. Whewww, felt so much better afterwards. Under eyelids smooth again. Doctor said some people just get these deposits under their eyelids, there's nothing you can do about it except have them removed by a optometrist or ophthalmologist. Hope this helps.

I do have eye floaters but one day while walking suddenly had several large bee size floaters. It was actually kind of frightening. Went to the optometrist that afternoon and he checked the back of the eyeball with an amazing piece of equipment, torn retina. Went to the ophthalmologist the next day and he confirmed the diagnosis. Off to the adjacent room and had my retina "spot welded" to the back of the eyeball. Recovery time from the sore eye took a few days. It all happened very quickly but my eye is good now.

@@MrJdebest great to hear. I have had floaters since im 18. I'm 40 now. Over the years, seems they changes, but recently got one a new a little bigger.when working on a PC with white background it started to annoy me and another effect. It's been weeks since I noticed it again. Could also be my brain that now notices it more as I looked for them again on purpose after I had some lasers at a party in my eye. So my brain might now notice something more while it was always there. But mu vision otherwise is still perfect. But to be safe, going to have it checked I guess. @@MrJdebest btw, bee size is difficult to understand as it depends at why distance you are looking I guess. If I watch tv or movies, not a single problem, only bright skies. But when I first noticed it at 18, it's like a fly that followed me on the ground if I walked. Was so weird back then. Let's say my new one, it smaller then the width of my pinky-top when stretching my arm forward and looking at my Pink. Then I would say about halve my pibk width. 😅 Size is difficult to explain
