He is so so sweet! From what I've seen in this video he looks like he has exactly the right nature for you guys! He looks like a very different ride to what Gabby is used to, but as you said - she just needs to ride this kind of horse more and get used to it! Those little oopsies in the jumping aren't really something I'd worry about either. He wasn't taking chances, but rather just seemed a bit confused or misguided and you could definitely see a difference as Gabby figured him out a bit better and Brandon helped her through it. This horse honestly looks like he has such a nice quiet nature. He's a nice age too - not too old, but old enough to have mentally and physically matured which will make working with him easier. You'd still get a good number of years of solid work from him since he is only 9 💪🏼 I'm guessing Gabby will ride him a few more times before any solid decisions are made, but for her first ride he looks promising 🙈 The thing I really love about ottbs is how enthusiastic majority of them are. They enjoy work and are athletic enough to take on a bunch of challenges that we throw at them! Like you said - dont rush and take the time needed to find the right horse, but this may be him and dont push the idea aside just because he is the first one you have tried so far! It's really great that Brendan knows him too - it'll make everything from lessons to caring for him a lot easier 👌🏼 Anyway, that's my 2 cents worth 😂 I think a nice level headed ottb is a great choice for Gabby. Once you ride one great one you'll fall in love with them ottbs 😂❤ At least that's what happened to me ahaha. I'm excited to see where things go with this guy and your horse hunting journey in general!

@@BluePeace2 100% agree! My TB is, on average, far less spooky and reactive than most of my friend's WBs. I'l admit, when he was younger (I bought him as a 4 yr old) he was very difficult and explosive. However, over the years through his training and mental maturing, he has become one of the sweetest most level headed horses ever. I can confidently put a complete novice on him (and I have - my boyfriend and his sister who have never ridden before lol) and know that he will take it sweetly and look after them. He hardly ever spooks, runs, bolts or does anything "naughty" under saddle. I think a lot of people are far too quick to jump the gun and label all TBs as wild and firey just because of the stereotype that's been created around them.

Hope you don’t let this guy go! He seemed such sweet sweet boy!! He deserves you guys! And he worked so well for Gabby! He is a 1 in a million snatch him up when you can. And the fortunate part is that he belongs to Brandon so you know he has been treated well, and taken care of! It’s a sign Don’t let him go!! Hahah good luck horse hunting but I think gabby found her match!

idk honestly I think Gabby could learn tons from him, he seems like a great challenge. Obviously he’s Much larger than Storm and a stereotypical thoroughbred thing, they’ll put little effort in until it becomes a REAL job, they make excellent upper level horses because when there’s a proper purpose to a cross rail, they’ll jump a standard. He glides over smaller fences, I’d love to see him over larger fences but Gabby would need tons of lessons on him before it all comes together. Maybe a more broke thoroughbred is a better option?

My old ottb mare was exactly like that. Knocked anything below 2'6, we free jumped her one day up to 4' and she was perfect. She was just easily bored. They are GREAT horses with a very wide range of temperaments.

Being a thoroughbred doesn’t mean he’s crazy my welsh cob stallion would never stand with the girls running around Him. Also don’t think he would be a hard keeper just have 24/7 hay available this should be done with all horses but some horses are fat lol and live off of thin air. Or feed him something good like ulcer kind it’s great for weight and ex racers usually have ulcers. I think Gabi would be fine

Kitty&mala W on the contrary, i’d say he’s quite sound. not only does he appear sound, but their trainer is schooling him so i’m assuming he won’t try and sell them an unsound horse. maybe try not to spread around false information when you know nothing about the situation. until you’ve ridden this horse yourself you really have no grounds to be saying he’s unsound. as soon as he puts on some muscle and learns to carry himself properly he will make a lovely mover, and it will take out any stiffness or unsure movement he has

Don’t forget when he frames put your inside hand forward a bit so that he knows when he does something right and that he doesn’t get confused with someone always on his mouth. Once he learns to frame you can hold him more and you can start building his top line and a more dressagy frame.I know this because I’m a Dressage rider and so flatworm and framing is my specialty. Also when jumping since he is still learning to jump and keeps bumping into the poles try can some full boots (not open front) this is because it’s his front legs that hit the poles. He looks great for you guys! 💞

I am sure after trying other horses you will realise that there are lots of horses with a nice jump. I think that you need a horse that has been there, done that, not another project horse. Keep looking, hope you find the right one. One that loves jumping, I was privileged to have a horse (he was a thoroughbred that raced. He was 4 when I got him) that loved jumping so I had no fear of stops or run outs.

You have to remember that you are only riding this horse in an indoor arena that he is no doubt used to, he may be a very different horse out and about, which is something to think about. With feed, muscle and fitness they can also change. Gabby also needs to learn to sit and ride a canter, instead of riding 2 point all the time, she needs to learn her flatwork and collecting a horse up properly in each gait, her hands are also doing a bit of the motorbike thing....all things that she needs to work on if moving on to a bigger stronger horse....this horse doesnt have established transitions and runs into the canter, I would look for something a little more educated......hes very cute though

I wasnt sure about this horse in the beginning, but once they got on the same page they did work really well together... I'm still not absolutely sure, I feel like this horse will take some work and from what you've said you dont want a horse that needs work, you want one that's ready to go off the bat so in that regard I dont think this horse is the one. He has the temperament and size Gabby needs and has potential, hes just not ready right now I feel, hes great on the flat but his jumping is not there yet. I dont think he should be disregarded yet though, just see what else is available first.😊

My friend bought one about a year ago and the horse has gone lame 6 times and has gone out of work 4 times for a month since she has had issues. Just please be careful buying one and make sure that they are very sound.

When your jumping a horse like that I would really recommend jump boots and bell boots/overreach boots as you wouldn’t want him or any other horse to pull a shoe but even if you just use open front boots it will protect his legs a lot more xx 🥰🌻🐴

The only tb in my my friend group to be a successful grade and breeders cup winner let alone make it on the track, and he’s also the slowest of the 5 OTTBs. if there’s anything to be said about thoroughbreds, its the underdogs that will truly surprise you

DayByDay Vlogs yep, my boy is a Hunter, so far only jumped 2’6 but with scope to go higher for sure(he’s also Canadian bred!! He says “hi” and he misses your weather! LOL) , he’s just too green and lacking proper muscle to jump higher atm dressage is the focus. the ottb my best friend owns is a Jumper, my friend has brought his gelding along the entire way, the Only rider ever on him but under lessons with very experienced trainers of course, and has only one time been defeated in a show in 2 going on 3 years (and its a long story), he’s small, quick thinking, agile, and VERY fast, even though jumping doesnt come naturally for him, he tries his BEST, he’s the perfect thoroughbred,. My other friends horses are 1.10-1.30 jumper prospects, one never raced she was “too slow” but has a huge stride and gets around a jumper-course no problem. We’re excited to see the two go against each other next season. And then my bffs gelding is moving up to A circuit🤤 The best part is, they’re dating and her horse is a mare! So Girls vs Boys for real!

OTTB r so fun! I recently swapped horses and am now riding one! They seem to get skinny in the winter, but they are fun rides! Laura, don’t worry about him! He seems to take care of gabby. He is a new horse, so there are a few things that she will need to get used to. When I swapped, my instructor had me canter poles for a few lessons before jumping so I could get used to his gaits and temperament. In a few rides, I think she will get used to him a bit and be able to do amazing things!

I totally get what you were saying by riding other horses is nice. About 2 months ago I started with a new trainer. She had asked me to join her competition team and so I decide to start with her. Her team is a iea team wich is where you walk into the ring and pick a horse out of a hat and that is who you ride. You have never even met the horse before and it takes a lot of self confidence, wich if you looked at me before starting with this trainer I would not have had. My first lesson with her she told me to go jump a 2’9” wide Oxer on a horse I had never met. I was so scared but I didn’t. That made me realize how much riding other horses helps me as a rider horses helped me

You’re right Laura, he’s definitely got a kind eye and seems to have a sweet temperament from what we saw, something that’s so important as all of you need to feel comfortable handling any new horse on the ground. His condition at the moment isn’t fantastic and being a thoroughbred he’s finer and more narrow than say a warmblood, so even when he fills out a bit, I don’t think he’s too big for Gabby. As you know, they start racing them at an early age and so as others have said, if you were considering him, I’d definitely get a full vet check and x rays. I’m not sure what his feet are like either, however thoroughbreds do sometimes have quite flat feet and some would struggle going barefoot ( although having said that, you mostly only ride in an arena ), still something to consider though. Some of the other things are just the potential maintenance of a thoroughbred, more food, finer coat so more rugging etc. I’m certainly not suggesting that all of them are high maintenance by the way, just something to be mindful of. Ideally Gabby would also want to try him outside in the outdoor arena and out on a trail, just to see how he is in those environments. Of course you never can really tell until you get a new horse home, as you’ve found out previously, however once he put on some condition and got a bit fitter he might be a bit more lively, you just never know. I don’t know how long Brandaan has had him, so how much he knows about his history etc either? Ultimately, I’m not quite sure he’s right for Gabby right now, if she’s looking for a horse that has some experience, as he didn’t appear to have that from his approach too jumping that we saw. It would be interesting to see Brandaan ride and jump him over a course to get some idea of what could be achieved 😊 So hard Laura as I’m sure getting the perfect horse for Gabby wouldn’t be cheap, so sometimes compromises have to be made, as long as you’re going in with your eyes wide open it’s probably worth Gabby trying him again and even getting Fionna’s opinion too, good luck 😊 ps well done Gabby and love the eye shadow Sophia 😁

Exactly! So many things to consider and honestly he has the best personality. Man. He is just so nice and that makes me want him. I trust brandan too so it's even harder. Storm has the same issues as many tb and honestly I'm such a worrier... I really want to get the exact horse this time! I know they are all going to have something but we want a horse that doesnt need work.

DayByDay Vlogs yes, I agree Laura, you really don’t want to purchase another horse that needs work and it can be difficult to see in to the future and what might be, always a gamble. You should definitely should be able to trust Brandaan, although I also think he’s tougher ( if that makes sense) and would be allowing for the work that would need to be put in, so of course it’s also how much you/ Gabby are prepared to put in and the time it may take 😊

Think of it this way. Brandon schools him 3'6. So he does know how to jump brandon trains him just not full time. Storm needed to be re trained english( which took alot of work/time) Any younger horse you get no matter what( unless the trainer was cruel and trained a 4 year old to jump 5ft) will have to learn to jump higher. You definitely don't want a "made" horse that jumps 4ft but was started at a really young age so by the time hes 12 his legs are destroyed. I think here its a matter of gabby getting to know the horse and vice versa. This is a horse she can get on and right away jump the level shes jumping with room to grow AND brandon knows him/schools him etc. Its honestly SOO hard to find trust worthy people when it comes to horses.
@melbowell5601
@melbowell5601 4 жыл бұрын
April Dreams Photography very true about trustworthy people, however just because the horse might have the ability to jump 3’6 etc with an experienced rider, doesn’t mean he’ll do it or even jump lower levels with a more novice rider. I don’t disagree with what you’re saying by the way, just that my understanding is that they were looking for a horse that has a little more experience in the discipline that Gabby wants to compete in and would be ready to go next season. Ultimately though, it’s very hard to find the perfect horse and working with a horse that’s willing to do the job being asked of it, has the right temperament etc and with the right help could be extremely rewarding, as long as you know that you haven’t yet got the finished article and have the ability and determination to put the work in required. I really do feel for them at the moment as it’s so understandable that they don’t want to get another horse that turns out not to be suitable

Gabby looked really good on him! She handled it very well and since Gabby is so tall he fits nicely for her since he’s tall. I ride OTTB’s and honestly I wish I had one, you can do a lot with them and they are opt to try new things and jump high. I would consider buying him, but that’s your job to decide! DaybyDay please read!!! I think he is a great horse if Gabby would like to train a horse, and that means sticking with him through every bump in the training road. But if Gabby is just wanting to get a horse straight of the bat like I heard you mention in a previous video, then this is not the horse for her. I personally looked for a horse who wasn't fully trained, quite young which means he has a lot of spunkiness were working through which is okay with me. I didn't want a fully trained horse because then I feel like I'm just sitting there doing nothing while the horse does everything, I want to take on a challenge with a horse. Thats personally how I feel, maybe thats just because I've ridden the problem horses for years at my barn. Anyways this really depends on Gabby wanting to train, or just get on and ride.

I LOVE HIM!! He is exactly what Gabby needs to progress in her riding! hes so lovely I would seize the opportunity and buy him he is what gabby needs in a horse he is fast but also slow and jumps and she really learned to adapt to how he does thing in one lesson imagine what kind of amazing thing they could do together with time and love and care . He can jump no doubt and those mess ups are just miscommunication from horse and rider you saw what they could do as a team just think of what a huge difference he could make on her riding journey. Love you channel hope you guys read this and I wish you guys only the best on your horse journey as a family.

He’s beautiful but he seems off in his movements! Seems like his front legs/shoulders are stiff or just off. Thoroughbreds are my favorites but they always have some sort of problem. Which I mean all horses do but they are harder keepers and most I’ve seen have some sort of lameness issue off the track. Not sure this your horse you don’t wanna deal with lameness issues If thats the case. Keep looking!! Don’t get discouraged!

Crystal McKnight I’ve never seen a situation where they weren’t allow a trail. Wether it’s on site or off site, there should always be atleast a three day trail followed by a vet check. Only some advice on the horse, as we had a horse that done the same thing! Look back to 16:29 when he knocks down the jump and comes away he lift his right hind leg (left when u looking straight on at him) more up as if he has hurt it this could be so. Etching happening in the bone, if you are getting this horse make sure to get it vetted as we got our horse x rayed and it has something wrong in the hock and it would have gotten worse over the years and then would have to b put down. Might not be anything but just something to look into before buying it😊💕

OTTB’s will change you! They are extremely agile horses with extremely fast brains who always want to learn and always want to please their rider. I have never ridden anything besides ottbs and I actually own a 4yo 17.2hh ottb who has been under saddle for 2 months and off the track for 3 months. He steps over those jumps and is going around very well considering he hasn’t been worked on a consistent basis, if you get him into a better routine, put some fat and muscle on him, and start with learning to ride him on the flat then you could have an incredibly good horse to help gabby move up! He’s forward enough and has a very smooth jump and she will learn SO much from him. They are the biggest teachers and I feel as though you guys should really look into him:) *if he’s on the market do NOT hesitate to try him on a trail he won’t stay for sale for long people don’t pass up a good thoroughbred*

He is so sweet! One thing I think you should think about with an OTTB is control, although Gabby did really well with him in the arena, you need to think about when you take him out and ride in fields, trails etc, if he decides his is going to take off, will she be able to control him unphased and confident to keep riding? You don't want a big Finn lol! 17hh is probably the right size to go for Gabby as she will most likely get a lot taller! My loan horse is 17hh, I'm 5ft6 (I'm almost 18 so no more growing for me lol) and his owner is 6ft.

He seems really sweet and he looks like he is trying for Gabby. Every time he ran out of he jump it was listening to what Gabby was feeling it wasnt him being naughty. They look really good together. I think that maybe you should get rid of the two ground poles then use the poles later because I feel like that when you have a pole right in from of you. It feels harder, especially when one is right in the front and back of the fence. Beautiful horse! I think Gabby would learn so much and would have a wonderful journey and will be able to show again soon. You really should consider getting this horse, he’s so beautiful and Gabby would really learn a lot. Maybe Sophia, I don’t know if I spelled either names right so my apologies if I did not but Sophia could learn a lot from this horse as well once she gets older. I hope you consider buying this horse! I would love to see him on your channel and more of Storm as well. Have a wonderful day, I love your vlogs.💗

Also.. I'm not trying to hate ahah and this is my opinion but - Throughout the video i picked up that Gabby seems to lean forward in her seat which isn't always good. A positive about this horse, is Brandon knows his history and would be able to coach Gabby and him, as he knows how to “operate” him so to speak. I think he’s lovely. He’s forward, but controlled and willing, has an amazing jump, and suits Gabby nicely. If he didn’t work out, he would likely be able to sell just as fast as you bought him. You probably don't really need my opinion, but WHOA, that is one GORGEOUS horse!!! The way he moves, and his canter is just MINDBLOWING! Gabby could learn so much from him, as he's a challenge. The first few jumps were really rocky but that's probably because Gabby didn't quite register how he moves yet. Honestly, he's great for Gabby! He will teach her about refusals, and hard work, Storm has a few refusals, but is rather easygoing. This horse would teach Gabby about jumping higher as she progresses. I know you don't wanna buy the first horse you try, but, he might be a once-in-a-lifetime kind of horse!! I would "jump" on the offer, haha, that was a corny joke.... OTTB's are the best! The have the biggest hearts and constantly aim to please. We've had the danish and dutch in the barn and they're great, but they dont always love their jobs like the thoroughbreds do! Also, most horses you have in work/show horses will need shoes or will greatly benefit from them. Gabby looks fantastic! The more muscle this horse gets, the better he will perform! Love him, Brandon might need to send him to the states for me!

He seems like he can really teach her a lot while also being safe- like keeping him straight and setting up for jumps. The horse is extremely well mannered and I think Gabby could could learn a lot from him. I have a OTTB and he is probably my favorire of my horses to ride. But I would defently try a warmblood because my friend has a warm blood and he is an amazing horse to ride and calm and Gabby seemed to like he was bigger and they are pretty big horses. But I would still try more horses because even though he is a level headed and gentle horse in his own home he might not be that way at your home. I once got this amazing kind, gentle OTTB and when I brought him home he turned more hot headed. I personally think it is an amazing horse and you should keep trying him out because they seem like a good match but keep your options open❤️❤️❤️ Elle

I think people think he looks lame and are talking about his confrontation because he is out of work as you said but if he’s schooling up to 3’6 that’s a perfect fit for gabby! But leasing first is always easier ❤️ love you guys, god bless your family and may he guide you through this decision

I think Gabby will learn so much from this guy. He has the basics down and is very quiet, he just needs the assistance of the rider to perform best. He has some issues like drifting, not bending, leaning, and not being able to find distances but those are all things the rider needs to help with. 19:10 was the best jump they had. Gabby really resisted the drift the horse has and the turn was much better resulting in a great distance and jump. He can teach her a lot down the line! He DOES look off in the hind. His front is fine; just not as flat-kneed which is fine in TBs. If he were to pass a PPE, I'd buy him if I were you.
