Hey Forrest. I've started watching your videos recently and the work you do tells me that you really care about finding and protecting rare and endangered animals. I have an intresting story of my own. For years in the southern parts of Georgia there have been sightings of "black panthers", all the way from Macon, to Waycross. I live right at the edge of the Okefenokee and have heard stories from relatives, family friends, and church members all claiming to have seen one. I myself haven't seen one, however, i have heard one, and back in 2010 my brother spotted one in the backyard of my grandmothers house. Im skeptical of the whole "black" aspect, but i do believe that people truly have seen cougars, and that there may be a small number of them out in the swamp. I dont know how, or when they got here but i do know that they arent native to this area. Anyway, i just wanted to share that with you. Love your videos.

Steller's sea cow populations had already been dwindling since the last Ice Age, and they were already on the road to extinction. They were probably the last ice age "megafauna" of the north. These sea cows were like the mammoths of the ocean, humans just gave the final blow. I am still hopeful, some isolated population might still exist.
@Gizathecat25 ай бұрын
You might be correct. A population of dwarf mammoths survived on a remote arctic islands at the same time as ancient Egypt. The sea cow was indeed on its way out, but I do hope we’re wrong.
@carlosandleon5 ай бұрын
just because a population is dwindling doesn’t mean it’s on it’s way to extinction- just a new baseline equilibrium. Hell, we are on our way to reduce our population to half or even down to 1/5 of our population now by the next century. But I think we’ll stick around for a long time regardless.

Any updates on the thylacine?
@thelittleal12125 ай бұрын
My main reason of speculation for the Stellars sea cows survival, is an enormeous animals. Compare that to a thylacine that is a small animal with a wide historical range, which can be easier to assume to be elusive in (If it’s still alive). Yet again, the oceans itself are a mysterious place as well. But for a huge animal that required a lot of things to survive on, which led to its downfall. chances seem lower. BUT, Im still giving my hopes, if you are planning to find it that is. Not everything is impossible
@ahastar11415 ай бұрын
I think living in a cold remote region is huge for its possible existence. Living in cold remote areas, is a really good way for animals to avoid humans. Additionally 250 years is a relatively short amount of time so it is possible that a few could still be around.

We just don't know as much as we think, and those regions are simply so big it's hard to wrap our brains around it even when one works there for extended periods of time. Thanks for your work and enthusiasm. I have a passion for extinct animals especially ones that were ridiculed and destroyed by man. The stellar sea cow is one of the last megafauna of the ice age to have gone extinct because of man, and it's rediscovery would be absolutely incredible in my eyes! Especially the thylacine as well I'm sitting here praying that they are still out there, you have given much hope to those of us that actually care about the status and repopulation of these amazing extinct (or possibly endangered) animals. ♥️

I was hoping you would do a colossal video about this animal, but I'm excited that it could still be out there, and we could see it thriving again.
