They can provide different options for temp housing to people that experience significant - total damage. A lot of it depends on what options the family or individuals wants or needs. It depends on the size of the household, medical needs, etc. They can rent and renovate. They have been looking at vacant properties and properties available for direct lease. FEMA has put out notices to property management companies. They can make some existing structures accessible for those with disabilities if need be. This is an option for larger and multi generation families. They are trying to make sure the properties do not fall place undo strain on people, so they are trying to set them up within 30 mi ranges of their work, etc. If people don’t have a place to put a temporary trailer right now they will opt for a hotel/motel or a different option. Most people are getting families with children, elders and the chronically ill - disabled into temporary housing first. It’s standard triage in a disaster area. This is also true of groups constructing tiny homes and temporary shelters for free or for a discounted price. I know Buncombe Co schools put in an order for 70 some tiny homes a couple weeks ago being built by a company in Virginia. 26 of their high school students are displaced, as are several teachers and staff. The homes will have compost toilets, solar power, etc. A local non profit that makes transitional homes is building prefab small shelters on wheels that can be pulled anywhere and used as storage - a shelter. RV’s have been brought in. Tiny homes have been given to some elderly residents. As cleanup progresses and water situations are sorted out more temporary residences will go in. People are able to stay in hotel, motels and inns now. This is happening all around WNC. Some hotels been able to hook up large potable water tanks to their system. Several locals also have friends and family here that they can stay with for a while.

Oh no we definitely need way over 700 people!! The thing is that they aren't the ones helping!! It's neighbors!! It's the ones that suffered or lost everything that are not even taking time to think of their own needs, because they work around the clock helping everyone around them. And so many generous hard working people volunteering their time and tools from all over the world. It's amazing seeing that side of humanity come out!! I think FEMA should be audited for real though!! And reconstructed or demolished. Look into their hiring adds that are out now, certainly doesn't add up. I’ve been waiting for 4 weeks for an inspection and nothing yet I’ve called every other day begging for them to come inspect it and they said they’re is a freeze on inspections right now. I haven’t gotten $750 or anything. It’s a huge slap in my face. They don’t care they are here for some other reason and it’s not to help us at all. I’m at a loss of what to do right now. I haven’t even gotten my last week of works pay because my boss lost everything so I’ve had to live off what little money I had in the bank and that’s been it but it’s all gone and fema just keeps telling to basically be patient. So I don’t know what’s going to go on here but I’m scared. I made a go fund me but I’m terrible at asking for anything so it hasn’t been very productive I’ll say.

I don't understand why they're building a FEMA camp in Wilkes County. I live in Wilkes, and we're like 3 hours from Asheville, and while there was some damage and flooding in certain areas from Helene, it was nothing compared to what other places got. Wilkes County does have an airport, so that might have something to do with it. I know literally every county surrounding us got it worse than we did so maybe Wilkes is just a good center point to reach those harder hit areas. I don't know. Trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. What I do know is as soon as that guy said Wilkes County alarm bells were going off in my brain. I don't trust it, and I definitely dont like the idea of one being right on top of me. My gut tells me it's not a good thing, it being here, and I trust my gut. I might not always listen to it, but it's never led me astray.

I just want to say thank you, thank you, thank you. First for giving us, outside the area, a small glimpse of the reality on the ground there in Marshall, especially in the early days. With hurricane Milton and the election going on the mainstream media news cycle moved on quickly. I so appreciate that you are giving information that you have first have knowledge of and being very careful to not spread rumors that you can't confirm. Also thank you for showing us the need to prep up at least a little. I hadn't ordered for Azure in many, years, so thanks for the reminder to stock up on beans and rice. I think going forward that may be the most valuable ministry you can do. I know your heart is in the right place with the tractor sheds. As you are finding out, being a contractor and dealing with city and county building codes can be a rabbit hole. God bless you for trying to help people anyway you can.

Thank you beautiful for everything you do. And No this is not how disaster relief should work .. I'm so sorry for the disaster/hurricane 🌀 but even more sorry that these leaders are not handling things rightfully & ethically in my humble opinion & in a timely fast manner ..fema boots is more like redundant bs & they waste money". All the volunteers are the real heros "! Thank you beautiful souls"! For everything you've done"! Thank you to everyone who has actually came in & helped these beautiful mountain strong folks

What you are doing is so amazing! We had the same problems in disaster zones in Japan. The delayed and not-very-helpful government pitch-ins, thieves and business recruiters with different motives, (dumped) used stuff and expired foods for donations… I guess depending on the size of disasters, the priority is very different, and the leaders and communities have to plan accordingly. Thanks for bringing your light to the situation. I believe spreading awareness of those situations would bring better disaster responses when it happens again somewhere in the future.

I dont get why they dont send in fema trailers for the residents. They are cheap self contained, warm shelters. They could have large army tents with cots for fema workers. Some trailers could be put on peoples property till things are figured out. I can't stand this all the millions spent on presidential campaigns.
