Brad & Lex, Keyboardist Rod Argent was in The Zombies before forming Argent. Singer is guitarist Russ Ballard who wrote several hits songs for Ace Frehley(Kiss), Frida(ABBA), Agnetha(ABBA), Santana and Head East!! Russ also had a solo career. I remember playing his solo song “On The Rebound” on the radio in 1980. Their only real hit.

It's time to just say it-- Russ Ballard was a song writing tour de force! Every song by him, I love. "New York Groove", "There's Something Going On", "Can't Shake Loose", "You Can Do Magic", "Voices", "On the Rebound", "Winning", "Since You Been Gone", "I Can't Hear You No More", "In the Night", "Two Silhouettes", "Once a Rebel", "The Fire Still Burns", "I Surrender", "Liar", "God Gave Rock and Roll To You", "So You Win Again", "The Border", "Under a Raging Moon", "I Did It For Love", "So This Is Eden (w/John Waite)", "You're Time is Gonna Come", "Dream On", "Hearts of Fire", "Free Me", "Dancer", "Feels Like the Real Thing", "I Will Be There", "Jody", "Livin' In Suspicion" -- and that's just scratching the surface! Such good stuff.

Yes, Rod Argent is old school, and yes, he's playing an organ. Also, the song is not sung to "a woman," it is sung to "all women," in support of the women's liberation movement of the time. Might want to also check out The Zombies, as he was the keyboardist in that band when they were cranking out some fantastic music.

I always took this as, in a modern vernacular, let the haters hate. I learned fairly young there are only about 3 things that cannot be talked from you : your integrity, honor and your self respect... You have to give them away. What the man/woman on the streets think of shouldn't affect your life.

This is one prog rock song where the prolonged instrumental solo in the middle really works. Unfortunately this is the short version, even so it gave me goosebumps. I've always thought the guitar could be a little crisper, but it's such a great song. Great reaction as always.

Rod Argent lived around the corner from me back in the 70's. just outside St.Albans UK. He was the local lad who came good and we followed his career. He was also in The Zombies with another couple of local lads. Colin Blunstone from just down the road in Hatfield and Jim Rodford who was also in The Kinks for many years. Rod Argent was also in the Ringo Starr All-starr Band which also included the likes of Richard Marks, Edgar Winter, Hamish Stuart from The Average, White Band Billy Squirer and Sheila E. Argent Guitarist Russ Ballard has written may songs for other people as well as for Argent but check out his song 'Voices' as there are a lot of similarities between this song and that one.

Can you imagine going to your Grammar School/High School 6th Form dance (the UK equivalent of a US/Canadian Prom) and the band performing just hit No.1 in the UK pop charts! As I'm sure someone already said the organ sound is the Hammond organ which had rotating horn speakers on it to create doppler effects. For me, the genius of this track lies in the perfect unison playing of the main riff between the organ and the fuzz guitar - I think that's what really sells it. Although of course the vocal track is a classic of prog rock vocalisation.

Greatr early 70s song, from The Band "Argent" named for mid 60s band member of "The Zombies," Rod Argent keyboard player. It's all connected in the big picture through the years of the 60s, 70s music scene. Everybody has played on everyone's album, or with them in a concert. It's like a big family. Think about Jeff Lynn (ELO) and Bob Dylan, George Harrison and Tom Petty of The Traveling Wilburys. There is a ton of that that went on in those days.

Russ Ballard, who is the lead singer, wrote Since You've Been Gone which was made famous by Rainbow. Great tune and you should check out Rainbow's version on their channel.

Yeah, a lot of rock bands of the '60s and early '70s had an organ as one of their instruments. Then when the Moog synthesizer came out and became more mainstream, it replaced the organ. Progressive rock bands would have a keyboardist surrounded by various keyboards on 3 sides, switching back and forth between them. This was the shorter, radio version of this song. I remember hearing an album version that has a longer improvisational bridge in the middle before that little tweedly descending riff that went back into the chorus.

1972. This song could have also been called "There's no crying in baseball." Those who know the movie quote are laughing, those who don't make the first group laugh even harder.
