Halflings in this universe live about 50 years. If converted to a human lifespan, Chilchuck is well in his 40's. This makes him older than everyone in the group, even Senshi. He just doesn't look it since his species generally look young. His original design apparently was supposed to have grey streaks in his hair. Marcille is older than him, but due to her lifespan, she is barely out of her teenage years and is the youngest in terms of physical maturity.

@@syzler8664 it really depends on what kind of experience, young elves might know some ancient languages, doesn’t make them mature. Halflings in their 20s probably already got married, have children, careers, and even a retirement plan. different ages view the world differently and get different considerations.

@@syzler8664 Life experience and years lived are one thing, but the thing I'm talking about is rate of development. Creatures with longer lifespans generally develop slower. Sea Turtles, as a real life example, have a lifespan of about 50-100 years and reach physical maturity at about 20-30 years depending on the specific kind. Cats with a life expectancy of 12-15 years reach the same level of physical maturity in just 18 months. Senshi, as a Dwarf, is expected to live for 200 years. Marcille even longer. A single year for them have very different meanings both physically and mentally in comparison to Chilchuck whose lifespan is only about 50.

​@@syzler8664Adding to what others said, Senshi and Marcille also both didn't get around much. They spent very long time in their field of expertise but have little life experience outside of that. Meanwhile Chilchuck got around a lot and has all sorts of life experience. If you want a real life example: Compare some rich kid who never got a job until his late thirties and even then just got a cushy job at his parent's company after paying his way through university to a poor kid with lots of street smarts who got a blue collar job in his teens.

As someone else noted, the lady that looked the same in the painting was likely due to the fact that unimportant people such as servants wouldn't actually be remembered in the details of a commission. They were likely "faceless" in the sense that the only people who needed memorable details in the painting, were those that the painting was subject around. Btw, I think next episode you two should enjoy a LOT given with what's covered...

Yeah, Half-foot have a life expectancy of 50 years. HOWEVER, Tall-men (i.e. Humans) are stated as having a life-expectancy of 60 years, so it's not that Half-foots live half as long as we do, it's just that we're using pre-industrial numbers here. 50 isn't an upper-limit, it's just the average. But it DOES put Chilchuck as being in his mid-to-late 30's, comparitively.

True. But also keep in mind the average is still the typical estimate. Also, I like that you mentioned that this is a preindustrial world so I'd bet this factors into the life expectancy- as well as individual fitness and health. Still, these are other species so I also think we shouldn't dismiss entirely the likelihood of a biological factor for typical halflings' relatively short lifespan. For instance, in mammals, smaller species generally live shorter than larger ones due to higher metabolic rates. OR MAYBE I'M OVERTHINKING THIS LOL!🤣😂

tallmen aren't the only humans, they're just the most like us (but they still arent exactly like our speicies and there are key differences). tallmen, halfoots, dwarves, and gnomes are all considered human, they're just different types of human.

It's funny that, when Chilchuck reveals that he's not only a grown-ass adult, but _middle-aged_ for his race, Marcille and Senshi react _as if they had been right all along_ to treat him as a child, because to their long-lived sensibilities a 30-year-old is just a little baby! And regarding _average_ life expectancy, if you are talking about an _actual,_ mathematical average (rather than using it as another word for "normal") then the number can be deceiving. Like, in some parts of the middle ages, the _average_ life expectancy would be 30, but in reality that's the incredibly high infant and child mortality distorting things. Anyone who actually made it to adulthood could _expect_ to live to 70.

We see this elf in the op, just for 2 seconds, the one who is running and we only see their back, you recognize them at their clothes, its just before we see the elfs sequence. At 1min02 in the opening if you want to check.

If I had to guess the mimic is a crab because real life hermit crabs sometimes use human junk as shells and have strong claws to attack like mimics are known to. Further more, coconut crabs are the largest land based arthropods, love collecting shiny things, and spend their time when smaller and more vulnerable living as hermit crabs, so it’s pretty thematically fitting for one to live in a treasure chest. I’ve actually thought about the idea before myself so it made me happy that the author seemed to be in the same headspace.

14:30 avg lifespan is 40-50 years. so chilchuck would be in his early 40s if he was tall folk/humans. this for sure is from a side chapter but they go into difference of humans and demi humans. humans are tall folk, half foot, elves, dwarves and ogre/oni while demis are kobolds and orcs. reason is ones under human they have the same number of bones while the others have less/more. they go into ogre and the horns they have if that is an extra bone, answer is no since the horns grow from the skull then form as a separate bone. so elf, dwarf and such is a race but they are under the same human species category in this world.

The elf is actually in the opening! I recommend looking for his color palette because it's pretty hidden. Also for manga readers, I'm pretty sure that one of the people associated with him appears at the same time, I spotted him because of the unique clothing. (Spoilers : If you want to know who, it's Yaad)

Idk if anyone else who read the manga had this issue, but my one gripe with dunmeshi is that with all the more exciting things going on I sort of forgot about the king promising his kingdom to the one who defeats the mad wizard until the end

@@pantrymonster BIG manga spoilers: Well, I don't think it's until Laios meets the ghost of the king that they learn that being lord of the dungeon isn't the same thing as becoming the new king. Considering Sissel and Marcille both became lords of the dungeon because of the Winged Lion, the real condition of becoming king was to free the kingdom of the curse the Winged Lion put on it.
