True. It's why I prefer this programme to 'Extreme Cheapskates' which makes savers look weird and cheap. This programme is kindly and informative and celebrates the great British eccentrics.

Plastic grocery bags you can cut up and make into Plarn and crochet them into sleeping mats and rugs for the homeless or a rug for your kitchen. They work great. It's only 1 stitch to learn and is a nice way to spend the winters when you can't go out.

I also have their same ability to turn discarded items into something practical and useful, but it would use a large amount of my time that would not be worth it. I grew up poor with parent who also "collected" things. But I find it better to work a well paying job, and then do your tinkering as a hobby. The justification that you could make a few dollars from this is poor reasoning and it's just an endless circle.

Being a scrimper seems normal and is completely different from obsessive compulsive hoarding (which is essentially a disease that causes the person and his loved ones more harm and grief than any good). *Imelda Marcos, besides being corrupt, is definitely a hoarder. Only difference being that she had lots of space and taste was rather extravagant, to say the least.

Roushan Cataps I meant in general, I recycle and yes I know the difference. If I recycle something to give it more life, I have a rule that something has to go. it is my cycle of not hoarding. I collect glass of different varieties, and am very picky of what I add to my COLLECTION. Just saying 🤷‍♀️

@@thatisamazingb5258 i was replying to the original comment about Imelda Marcos about being a hoarder because she got a lot of shoes. This [person is mixing politics with psychological disorder. And I totally agree with you. I am a scrimper myself, I keep thing i know i might use but after long time and have not used it then that means I dont actually nedd it and must be thrown.

There is a lot of crossover, one can only be one or the other but scrimpers will usually be hoarders to some extent. I am both I guess but not quite to the extent of these documentary but definitely to the extent it's not healthy for me.

In the '90s, Amy Dacynczyn wrote "The Tightwad Gazette" which was published later in 3 volumes still available on Amazon (and maybe at your Library.) She had 6 children (who all have turned out well, in fact her oldest son went to Harvard) and her books were about how she saved money, but then she always said "Do what YOU want." She had the most important thing: a husband who was totally helpful and supportive with her tightwad ways. He was 37 when he married her because he hadn't wanted a woman who'd waste his money. They are still happily married.

Oh God noo 🙏😅. I don't want to live like this. You can't recycle each and everything. So better not buy it in first place and if then send it to proper recycling center. After some years its just a pile over pile believe me. You don't really can't repair and reuse thing you can't really see.

I don't think there's anything wrong with that kind of hoarding if a. everything is kept labelled, clean and tidy and accessible and b. you are not using up space that could be used for a more profitable use, eg, renting out a spare room to a lodger.

@@Miss_Kisa94 Fair enough. It could be something like a garage though. I know someone in London who has a garage filled with junk. I worked out he could potentially have made £30,000 in rent over the years that he has used it as a junk store! (parking places in London are worth a lot of money).

@@paulosullivan3472 It's not uncommon for people to speak in 'old money' for years after it's changed. Instead of 'pound coin' he still says 'pound note' but means the same thing. I've heard people speak in shillings long after there were none, that's how they worked out prices in their heads. I have an Australian friend who's lived in Europe for 5 years and still says dollars instead of Euro!
@paulosullivan3472
@paulosullivan3472 3 жыл бұрын
@@Ad-Infinitum I cannot prove otherwise but the proposed date of 1994 was the best part of a decade after the last note was destroyed, and this was for a TV programme you would think they would correct it. I would suggest Occams razor should be employed here, the simplest explanation is it was made before the pound note was decommissioned.
