I miss the time when you could watch anime for free in crunchyroll even if it had billions of ads.

Right?! This new price scheme they have is kinda wild.

Well, with some shows u get to watch 3 episodes of the newer anime for free (spy x family is an example) they give u episode 1 episode 2 and episode 3 then episode 4 u gotta upgrade. It used to be that u was 1 week behind premium members. For example an episode 18 came out for premium, episode 17 would then unlock for free members to watch a week behind.

Crunchyroll is going down a premium only path. Like Netflix etc

Another thing to look at is that Funimation used to dub damn near every series they had regardless of popularity with one of the few popular exceptions being the monogatari series but with Crunchyroll they only dub stuff they view as popular

I know. I missed that I have a favorite animethe 1st season hot a dub but then the 2nd season came on crunchyroll and they skipped over it. It doesn't help its a baseball anime that it isn't very popular at all except in Japan

My experience is that it's quite annoying when we have shows on say crunchyroll that don't have the entire series and no english dub option.

On one hand I'm glad there isn't a monopoly on the anime industry like one company with most or not all old/new anime to come out but on the other, when you gotta have 3, 4 or more subscriptions to watch anime that sucks too. And I don't think it's going to get any better but hopefully better times come plus you can always sail the seven seas.

I think the issue with anime streaming services is mainly the exclusivity model. When one streaming service acquires the exclusive rights to distribute an anime, it effectively forms a mini “monopoly” around that show. Now, if you want to legally stay up to date on seasonal anime, the shows are split up across many different streaming services. This also results in the lovely situation where multiple seasons of the same show are split amongst various streaming services. So basically, the two scenarios are: 1: You have one company distributing anime. You only have to subscribe to one service, but they can raise prices as much as they want. Also they don’t have to worry about providing a good user experience (software and such). 2: You have multiple companies distributing exclusive anime. You have to subscribe to many services, and they can still raise prices as much as they want (albeit to a lesser extent). And many still don’t care about decent software. Or the hidden scenario: 3: Anime is distributed with non-exclusive rights by multiple services, making them actually have to compete with one another over their price and usability. I acknowledge that this would be very hard to do in practice, but I think it’s a nice concept.

This problem sucks even more in Australia since not all the shows that are in America make it to us, since of Laws and Contracts that kinda BS. I didn’t even know Netflix had JJK until this year since I went overseas for a trip

Just a reminder that if you don't wanna pay for streaming all of the old methods exist. You can still pirate it, buy DVDs, and I think even watch Toonami.

Have you seen those prices for blurays and dvds? Considering you use DVDs in assuming you don't cause no one in their right mind would use physical media as their way to watch anime.
@markwatson8714
@markwatson8714 10 ай бұрын
@@ben99ny69 What's wrong with those prices? Generally speaking they're only expensive when new, when an entire season can set you back thirty five quid on BR or twenty five on DVD. They rapidly drop down to the ten/twenty quid price point though (in fact I was recently able to get the entire of K-On, including the movie, on Blu Ray for fifteen quid from Amazon). That's ignoring of course the fact that you can always buy second hand - which netted me both current seasons of Re-Zero on Blu Ray for five quid each courtesy of Cex. Amazon are also starting to do the same thing they do with their music store where if you buy the physical copy of something they have on Prime, you get access to that digital copy on Prime too.

I am still thinking Crunchyroll will be around for years to come since their services prioritize anime unlike Disney and Netflix which are increasing their prices for their live action shows.

I only use hidive , Crunchyroll and occasionally Netflix as a handful of those shows don’t interest me aside from Edens zero season 2 , Tonikawa s2 , Urusei Yatsura remake , birdie wing golf girls story , muv luv alternative etc but I don’t use Hulu anymore nor disney aside from the future avengers . Also blu ray sets are somewhat manageable compared to the imports of japan and oop price gouging sets of expired / defunct anime shows movies * $500 for Megaman exe anime vols , fate zero blu ray imports aniplex USA* but those are just my thoughts and theory. A anime theory

I can’t believe people don’t just rotate subscriptions. Remember pirating affects anime studios because they really on companies to license their products. Everyone that pirates should be grateful to people that pay to watch the content. In my opinion. If everyone pirates and companies don’t see viewership then they start cutting it off.

It’s hard to watch Tegami Bachi Officially, Like Crunchyroll Took Off Season 1 of Tegami Bachi and Now you have to be premium to even watch it. Sadly it hasn’t been released on Blu-Ray, but I hope this year for its 15th anniversary they do something, but since Pierrot is so focused on milking Naruto, I don’t think they will..

Streaming services is not a competitive industry. Its a monopolisitic competitive market. No one service is a good substitute for the other. Not like iphone or samsung.
