Ya i've driven in terrible road conditions all over the world, the drivers there are a lot more careful. singapore? the drivers here are complacent and expect the law to work their way, so they (including myself some times) just go without thinking. too complacent.

7:21 Why do you cross in front of the vehicle, increasing the danger posed to yourself and the driver? Just observe the scene and think for a moment. What is happening around you? What can you anticipate? From a second before, the van was coming out from Lor 23 towards the main road. Traffic on the main road is stopped due to the traffic lights ahead, but there is a yellow box allowing vehicles from Lor 23 to merge into the main road. So the van would likely drive forward into the yellow box, whether he obeys the stop line or not. So, is it safer for you to cross behind the van, or assume that it would obey the stop line and hence cross in front of it? Which is the safer option? Not only is crossing behind the van safer, it also makes it more efficient for the van should the driver decide not to stop completely at the stop line and merge into the main road. If there's a summon coming, it goes to him not you. If you cross in front and he wasn't looking ahead but rather to his left to check if the bus was moving, he may not see you crossing in front and would have hit you. Accident. Who suffers? You do. He does as well. Lose-lose.

the moment i read the title i knew south bouna vista road is gonna be there. i remembered that road because i took the bus 200 many times 20 years ago. at late night it's so dark and deserted in my opinion it is the only most dangerous road in singapore. even then for people in other countries it's like cakewalk.

That road is not that dangerous, as long as you don’t speed. Roads with more than 4 way junctions are, such as Serangoon road. The design is horrible. It should be a roundabout for anything more than 4 ways, or some roads should be disconnected from the junction. These junctions confuse people leading to accidents especially since there are no comprehensive directional signs in advance, only at the turn itself where the road splits in 3.

The roads we have are usually upgraded/improved on junction by junction and as motorists, we are caught by surprise having to change lanes even though we are going straight so that adds to the risk.

It's not the road, it's the driver that matters. If sg road is dangerous, take a good look at KL/Penang/HCM. You will then know what is dangerous and yet close to 0 accident. Just accept the fact that the gov spoonfed singaporean too much until they take it for granted

Singapore roads are so well-designed and well-maintained compared to other countries, how can any of them be considered dangerous? It's the drivers who make them dangerous. Drivers who don't follow the road signs, don't obey road rules, don't plan in advance, don't know their own driving abilities and their cars' limits make any road dangerous.

Using phone while driving $1000 fine and 6 months jail also not a real deterrent, if no one enforcing. Most drivers also put sunshades on driver side now to block kaypoh motorcyclists from taking video of them using phone. Even some motorcyclists are scrolling tiktok while riding. Nothing will change.

It's because of high cost of living so people have to be more hardworking, have to take work calls and type emails while driving, can't afford to waste the commute time focusing on the road.

it's frankly quite embarrassing on a national scale to consider these as dangerous roads. Public SG roads are some of the best planned, thought-out roads with rich engineering pedigrees behind every stretch of tarmac. We often put the blame on the roads when really, the biggest problem that needs to be fixed sooner than later, is US.

You say the tragic loss of young lives. Can we get a bit more information because my friends and I feel it is the boomers and older folk who pose the greatest danger on the roads. We do a mandatory medical check on them, but I believe that is far from stringent enough. Reaction speeds, courtesy and safety are all not tested.
