The problem is the overbloated budgets for these games. They spend so much time on them that they can only put out 1 game in the generation, maybe 2 at most. They can't afford for the games to flop, so they play it safe and try to appeal to the most people. Bring back smaller budgets, smaller teams, and let's make gaming great again.

The jump from 512mb RAM to 8GB of ram between PS3 to PS4 is a bigger jump than PS4 to PS5. I don't think we will see games being made next gen consoles till at least 2027

Corporate greed, overblown budgets on major games, the lack of consoles available at the start of generation. Less creativity, and a lot of game studios being shut down and or merged into larger existing ones. Along with the last point, a lot of people losing their jobs and not having enough money to start their own independent companies. Can’t help the pandemic but ever since then I don’t really know a lot of people who bought a console once they became available. Most people are still playing last gen games that have cross play that still have not switched over from the PS4. Half the time I was on party chat my friends were still on last gen.

Yup, or to have elements of lie service or some kind of mode in addition to their single player. Ther ewere reports that it seemed likely that their big games have seen some setbacks as they pivot their single player game studios back to single player and there was even rumblings that the studios were frustrated. Now that I think about it. that's probably why we got those rogue-like modes in Last of us 2 and God of War. I think Wolverine is likely going to not land until 2026 depending on how much work was spent on that spiderman MP game.

Ghost of Tsushima was shown at TGS 2017 (Year 4); that was the last time we were shown a new game for the PS4 generation. At that point, every game that would come out for the remainder of that gen had been revealed. People complained that Sony needed to stop doing this long roadmap and instead wait until the game was near to coming out. People said they wanted the surprise and didn't want to wait years between reveal and getting to play the game. Flash forward to Year 4 of this generation and we have a CGI trailers for FairGame$ and Wolverine, that's it. Sony changed their policy, based on our complaints, to provide some mystery and surprise. But now the same people hate not knowing the roadmap. It seems to me like "Be careful what you wish for." or "The grass is always greener on the other side." I don't think this gen has been a disappointment, I think this gen has exposed how much the online gaming community is obsessed with hype and anticipation.

Very few reasons to own a console this generation. Sony and Microsoft's exclusives are all on PC (or coming soon to PC). PC Switch emulation performs better than the actual Switch. Combine all of this will the rise of handheld PCs where you have access to all of the above plus thousands of retro systems, and you have one of the worst console generations ever.

With the cancellation of Factions II, SpiderMan The Great Web, Knights Of The Old Republic, no bloodborne remake. The first person shooter market is wide tf open, so why not bring back Killzone? Times have been tough for the PS5. We still got some upcoming titles like Venom(Maybe), Wolverine, and Ghost Of Tsushima 2. Maybe more surprises in the future but yea it’s sad rn

PS5 is the first playstation I've never had to this day and I'm in no rush to get it... There's simply not a ton of games I'm all that interested in, heck that was also the case for the PS4. I sold both my xbox 1s and PS4, but guess what I still have... My PS3. Then again I do play more on my PC now then any console so yea.. I'm not a fan of Exclusives on any format... Timed Exclusives okay I can deal with that. The fact that there's so many exclusive ps3 games I love that is more or less dead now cause that's the only format you can play them on isn't great for preservation.

The answer to your question is, No. PlayStation has carried this generation (so far). This generation has proven to be a weird generation though. It's almost seems as if Nintendo doesn't even exist anymore. Never hear people talk about them at all, even though they are still selling well. All you ever read or hear about is PS, Xbox, and PC. All the fighting is over PS, Xbox, and PC. It is like gaming has lost all of its free thinker's. From folks still believing in console wars, to content creators trying to cash in on console waring. From all the misinformation and false narratives (no matter the side), this has been a very fickle generation of gaming. People really try to pretend and tell themselves that the PS5 has done nothing... Just casue a game isn't for you, doesn't mean that content isn't being created.

As a player who switch from Xbox to ps5 I was disappointed with the limited amount of available games in the store. Makes me wanna switch back to Xbox, older games just have more aura. I thought buying a ps5 would have saved my gaming experience but it really hasn’t and Sony could care less which is sad. Most these big companies prioritize anything else including money (don’t forget that) instead of making games great nowadays. I still think it's possible for them to rescue this generation. But the reason why I'd argue that this is a the least exciting is because there's isn't enough new single player stuff coming from their first party line up. Whatever they're releasing is sequels to things we've already seen before. Ragnarok is a sequel, we've had several ratchet and clank games, Spider-Man 2 is a sequel, FF7 rebirth is a part 2, horizon forbidden west is a sequel, death stranding 2 is a sequel, naughty dog is only putting out remastered versions of older games, and sucker punch is doing a sequel to ghost of Tsushima. PS4 was so exciting because there was a lot of new stuff. God of war 2018 was a revitalization of the series, ghost of Tsushima was a new IP, Spider-Man PS4 was new, days gone was new, death stranding was new, horizon zero Dawn was new, then they had bloodbourne, so it was exciting and intriguing because there was so much new stuff. Right now, that's not the case.

I just miss when we would get games faster. Like I know budgets are way more now but it is crazy to think we got GTA 3, Vice City & San Andreas all in 4 years. He mentioned Jak & Daxter the same all 3 in 4 years. Moving forward to PS3 & 360 we go Uncharted 1-3 in 4 years. Gears 1-3 in 5 years. Its just crazy how long it takes for games to come out nowadays.

I disagree. Games were more exciting and fun in the first 3 years of the PS3 and PS4. In that time during the PS3 era we already had Resistance 2, Uncharted 2, Killzone 2, Demon Souls, Infamous, God of War 3, RDR and many more. In the PS4 era we already had TLOU, BF1, Bloodborne, Metal Gear 5, Mortal Kombat X, Just Cause 3, The Order and still a lot more. There was more diversity back then and quality made games were released consistently. Now we have spiderman, remakes and a handful of un-interesting titles.

Games just take way too long to develop now. COVID held back development for most games that were in development at the time by about 6-18 months too.
