Sony was a little late to the live service boom. So of course, Jim Ryan was overzealous. Buying Firewalker and Haven before they even release a game was not the PlayStation way of doing things. We all knew spending $3.5 billion on Bungie was a mistake. TLOU: Factions 2 should've been handed to a different studio, rather than cancelled. They've already cut half of the live service games. Concord failing is the latest wake up call for PlayStation to go back to doing more single player games.

There’s 2 ways it could go: A. Sony sees that investing in new IPs aren’t worth it for PlayStation and they only focus on reviving old IPs/ continue with the “safe” dramatic 3rd person story games. B. Sony pumps money into market research to discover what gamers are actually interested in. Investing in new and older IPs to satisfy stakeholders. Either way, I think PS is a tizzy in terms of what they think the market wants vs what’s reality. The world/atmosphere of Concord could have been used in a much better setting than a FPS, but because the industry has moved to revenue > creativity, we got the easy baked product.

Can we just go back to the PS3 days where every game had some tacked on multiplayer mode? Yeah, more than half of them were complete trash, but there were some gems, some made an effort to utilise what made their game unique and mix those elements into their multiplayer modes. Sony are truly incapable of making a multiplayer shooter that thrives. At least Xbox has Halo with an established fanbase and you will still have people buy the game and play it for a year or 2 even if the game disappoints and doesn’t capitalize on its potential. Sony seems like they will always be playing catch up for multiplayer shooter
