She was so brave to show her pantry. But she isn’t alone on not being organized She took the bullet for others today
@lifebeyondthesalary2458 Жыл бұрын
It was awesome to see Tawra do it this way because that’s how I redid my own pantry last night (hubby & youngest were out of town for the day & I made use of the time as wisely as I could & this was on my to do list for a while) & I LOVE how her pantry turned out )mine too but mine is MUCH smaller lol). 😂 So glad that she allowed us to see how her madhouse pantry got turned into something much more organized & useable (Mine was as much, if not more so of a disaster than hers… by a lot lol 😂). I think,without making sure it stays organized on a daily to weekly basis it turns into a disaster quickly, especially if other people are using it & not just one person. Louise (totally sure that I butchered the spelling of her name) is a rockstar for being brave enough to show the world. Hopefully she knows she’s not the only one that dreads dealing with her pantry & then when it’s done, realizing it wasn’t quite as bad as she was dreading, or if it was, at least it’s done now!

I put everything in storage bins or bags. This way I can store more food in the house where it is safe.

I am one of those many people who bought and bought and barely used. 😮 I am following some of your tips and a couple from your viewers. My goal is to spend as little as possible on groceries this month. I normally spend about $300 per week on groceries, toiletries, paper products, etc. We are a family of 7, plus I cook dinner for my parents most days. Tonight I placed my Walmart order and spent $59!! That includes shampoo and hand soap. We will primarily be eating from our stockpile. I hope nothing unexpected comes up and I can keep this going!! This is such a great video, Tawra Jean! 😊 You're teaching people how to help and teach others. I learned a lot watching this process, not just for my own pantry but for helping family, friends and maybe people in the community get their own stockpile/pantry going. I also like how you talk out and actually show the thought process of the shelf liner, using what you have on hand, and how you go through the items, even asking how she classifies her items (when you said "...what is garlic to you?"). I have a lot of executive dysfunction lol so sometimes I need to see and hear even the most basic concepts to learn..and sometimes need many reminders. You and your family's videos have helped me become more independent and a little more ahead of myself which is a huge change from ALWAYS falling behind, even at my lowest expectations. I can't thank you all enough.

One thing I noticed was how the home-canned food was stored. For safe storage, you don't want to put anything on top of them as it can break the seal. Also, leaving the rims on the cans can also mess up the seal so those should all be removed. Great reorganize though!

When i have a mish-mash of older and also just plain onsies which i need or want to eat through, i often carve a space in the pantry for these "eat first" items; and put an emphasis on them. Especially if ive been slow to eat through the "eat first " items, i actually pull a ressonable few (1 dish, 1 meal, no more than a week's worth) and put them on the kitchen counter. Ive always had less kitchen counter than ive wanted and moving these items about while doing other kitchen activities is a strong motivator to find a recipie and some cooking time. As needed, i replentish my kitchen counter goodies from the pantry.

The thing is about home canned foods they should NEVER be stored with the rings on. Jars can come unsealed, let in bacteria and reseal themselves with the rings on and you would never know it had happened. Also, were the jars stored with the other items in the garage?

Also, USDA tells you not to stack home canned jars. The weight from stacking can compromise the seal.

Canned food, weather, home Canned, or commercial, if Canned properly are bacteria free once processed. Age doesn't matter as far as bacteria is concerned. You will hear a suction sound when you open the can or jar. That tells you that the seal wasn't broken until you opened the can or jar. Check for dents, rust, or pitting on the can or jar lid. They could be signs that the seal has been compromised.
