I must be missing something because a couple of those lines don’t look parallel to one another. I think you helped me figure out a simple way to understand the parallel shift, though. I can’t wait to try this at the pool hall tonight!

Yes sorry lines not perfect but you can get the understanding of what I’m doing .. I hope haha
@milanjovanovic40547 ай бұрын
@@dynamiteappleton no, because if they were parallel then you would aim for that other spot on the rail and miss the object ball...I do get the idea and appreciate the help you are trying to offer but this simply isn't a good example..sorry

It doesn’t look parallel because the rail close to us is bigger than the rail on the other side. So his cue did move equally in both sides. It’s all a matter of perspective.

Good video. It's a good way to find the aiming for the "ideal" angle, the angle that would apply if a laser beam bounced off a mirror. For some shots that works, but usually you have to make an adjustment based on (a) how shallow the angle is, (b) how hard the cue ball contacts the rail, and (c) how much english the cue ball has when it contacts the rail. There will also be (d) an adjustment based on how fast and how new the cloth is and how polished the balls are. The latter (d) is a small adjustment that you'll notice on a pro table (Simonis 860 or equivalent and polished balls) vs. an old set of balls on a typical bar table. But with brand new cloth and balls it can be surprisingly more skiddish. Pros like Darren have a feel for all those adjustments based on skill and experience. No system will compensate for not having that, but finding the ideal angle is a good starting point, especially for novices who haven't learned how to site it automatically. And even the pros find it useful to use a system like that to be sure they are picturing the ideal angle before adding their adjustments.

Thanks Darren for this great tip. Next training i will try this one. Specially the last one when object ball is further was very good advice.

problem with this system is when you are doing the parallel shift, most of the time, it is not accurately shifted to the same angle and thus missing the kick or not accurately hit as intended

I'm so happy to see you back at it and looking so healthy! Now, time for you TO SNAP OFF THAT MAJOR I predicted you would win before you had your medical set back. You are a great guy and excellent Role Model for today's Pool Youth to look up to. Glad your back DA! Now Go Get Em'!!

Awesome video. Could you please do a video showing kicks when the object ball is randomly somewhere on the table and not close to a pocket. How would you use the rail system then?
@garybkatz3 ай бұрын
I use this method a lot, but it breaks down a bit when the CB and OB are at weird angles to each other. When the 2 balls are at similar distances from the kicking rail, it works great.

I've always had a bit of trouble with the parallel shift. For me, it's easier to just find the angle of the midpoint, then just note the angle my cue makes with the rail. Then I just move my cue to the cue ball and duplicate that angle.

Another good video but with a time clock it would be difficult to do all that measuring with out burning an extension.

I like the parallel shift system & use it quite a lot practice makes perfect, but a lot of the line is just a measurement half way between the cue ball & object ball without using the shift gd vid tho Darren 👍
@cristianmunteanu87657 ай бұрын
Maybe it's the camera angle, because when you shift the cue it's not parallel to the line that you are trying to keep. Thank you for the tip! I will try it for sure.😊

I find that when the distance between Q and target ball is more than 1/2 of a table, the spotting of the halfway point and the parallel shift get a little titchy. It’s way too easy to come up with/a 1” error, and ooops, ball in hand. But it’s sure better than no system.

how to know the reference point in the opposite rail before finding midpoint and parallel shift?
@johnnyroc7 ай бұрын
I’ve used a version of this system for like 10 years with mixed results. Then I switched to kicking by feel and results improved drastically. I just see the rebound angle and draw the lines. I’m nowhere near Darren’s speed so don’t listen to me.

I've been using this system since I saw Lil' Chris explain it in one of his videos a while back. I think he said he learned it from Tony Robles. I like it because it's a visual system rather than counting diamonds etc. You can also use a very similar system to do two rail kicks: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5mseWN4otqGmqc

Measure to the rail where the ball will contact and straight top never play with running English for basic one rail kicks unless need to .. 2-3 rails most kicks are running English

Are you holding your cue with one hand? When I first started using this system, my parallel shift wasn't quite parallel because I ended up rotating my cue a little bit while doing the shift. Holding the cue with both hands like Darren demonstrates in this video helped me immensely.
