I have always disliked container homes because they are all the same, but the bump outs and architectural elements of these take them to a whole new level! Absolutely LOVE the way they LOOK like a container outside and the magic happens inside. They are beautiful and WAY out of my financial realm!

Over 200,000 for a tiny house with no land. That’s CRAZY. In KS, you can buy a 2,000 ft house on land for 160,000. It’s depressing bc some of us will never have our own home. I’m a single parent working as a special Ed teacher. No matter what teachers do, we don’t get COLA increases. This movement was supposed to combat the crazy housing prices. Then it became a trend. And now, it’s just a money generator for private profit. I’ve realized, tinies aren’t even a potential glimmer in the eyes of many ppl anymore. It’s discouraging and sad

Just curious, if the shipping container is metal, what happens if it's hit by lightning? I had lightning hit my home twice and while it was grounded, it did destroy my tv's and makes me a little nervous now. Also how is it anchored for hurricanes or noreaster's and what wind speed can it withstand.?

A metal container conducts the lightning through its surface and to the ground with very little effect on the inside. These containers are easy to anchor from their shipping tiedown points and can handle extremely high winds.

These containers deal with hurricane-like winds pretty often in the open ocean. Hold up for many years.

Interesting... I have thought about container home ideas, but the biggest disadvantage they have is that they need specialist transportation to get anywhere. And that can ramp the price of ownership up quite dramatically depending on where they are to be located. So I am trying to understand what the purpose of using a container as opposed to timber or even steel and cladding. I don't know yet. I like the idea of being able to design a tiny house using timber, for example, and being able to transport it on one or two truckloads to where ever it is required without needing special equipment like cranes and the like. Also, the other thing that causes me to pause and consider alternatives is the cost of building and ownership. All of the pricing that I have heard from companies to date have placed container homes in what I would call the pricey range range. So I am not altogether sold. I like the idea of designing and building my own thing, but I do like the ideas that are shared... many of them are useful and good. And they lead to thought and discussion... which is great. Thanks for sharing. 👍😄

Purpose depends on the situation. It could be to fast track construction, to have a transportable home or to utilise an available resource. Locally available resources vary. It could be hay, timber, bamboo, soil, tyres, shipping containers or metal sheets. The transferable ideas on how to problem solve with different constraints are great inspiration. A container home that does not require special equipment to move sounds like a home on a trailer.

I've been really frustrated with all the standard container homes being just a long hallway-- I understand if you truly want to travel with it on the road but it's not for me. This is wonderful, and even bigger than I'd need/want.

You can always save quite bit of money by doing the labor yourself. 😊 The challenge is getting a self-built container home permitted as a residence, so be sure to talk to your city or county about building requirements

Understandable. These containers are usually made from Corten steel which is rust-resistant. Preventing exposure to harsh weather is the best way to safeguard a container home from rust because rust can occur when it comes into contact with both water and oxygen, repeatedly. Painting using ceramic insulation paint is one good option, which is available from Relevant Buildings. This model features high-quality spray foam which can protect it from condensation. Adding a crawlspace can protect the underside from moisture.

Very nice but a one bed is a bit shakey, here in the UK I am sure they would have turned that into a 3 bedroom apartment, with a passahe/hallway. I'm not bothered about the price, because people are forgetting a team of people who needed to get paid and invested in resources worked on this, they all needed to pay taxes and make some profits too. Its a business not a charity. Plumbers, electricians, carpenters, plasters, weldiers, interior designers, architects, foundationers, deliverers....no one is working for free, this didn't manifest itself.

@@TinyHouseExpedition When someone can build their own home for $25k - $75k and a little sweat equity.. and have a beneficial learning experience as well, it is foolish to spend $100k -$200k+ . There are many who will say.."I can't do that.. I don't know how". If you can build a simple bookcase.. doghouse or shed ,you can build a safe, comfortable shelter... without having to go into debt slavery for years or even decades. Will it be time consuming..frustrating? Will you make mistakes...certainly. But the pride, self respect and satisfaction you will gain ... being able to say ..." That's mine ,I built it myself ".... the sense of self reliance... that is priceless.

Price seems high. Containers at the end of their life cycle can be purchased for a low price so the $195 price seems high.

That's nice, if you have the skills, the equipment, and the certification to build to the requirements of your area. You may wish to check into the price of permitting for starters; it can run from $6K to $25K, before you even start work.
