There is another variant of the same amp, (I am sure all of them are churned out of the same factory in China). The one I have is a Hartwood Interceptor 30 from Gear4Music. It was a little more expensive than the HB Tube 15 and had a number improvements: a Matt black face-plate (readable! With white markings!); a removable mains cable; plywood construction rather than MDF; and … a Celestion Vintage 30 speaker! (Those upgrades are not such good value as they were, the Interceptor has gone up in comparative price.)

As a (Covid inspired midlife crisis) beginner I started out with a second hand boss effects pedal as my amp, with a pair of headphones. I found it dreadfully unintuitive, so got a transistor based portable combo. Had no success getting times out of that so … chose one of these (kind of) and my understanding of dialling in tones was transformed. I REALLY recommend it.

I wonder if this is the same amp that is marketed under the Monoprice name in North America? Definitely sounds great!

Apparently so! I wasn't aware of the Monoprice stuff until yesterday when someone else showed me. My guess is the factory that produces them supplies them wholesale to multiple brands with their logos on.

Yup and they are awesome. My stock tubes lasted 9 months and one went out. Replaced and had to bias. But good amp

@@bullinobull5158 Laney Cub 12r rather than the ( chuffing excellent ) LC15. I have an ancient LC15 and the model Monoprice/HB/Gear4 didn't rebadge, the Laney Cub 10. I'm half-arse tempted to buy the Gear4Music version as the aesthetics are somewhat pleasing. They have a 'Hartwood' badged variant in a fetching green with a sackcloth grille cloth front. Both variants have a black fascia. That shiny panel is the only thing I don't like about my LC15, but it's very much a set'n'forget amp anyway.

Have been looking at these recently Leigh and this was a great demo 😊 Looking into this a bit more, this and the American equivalent (Monoprice I think is the name) is actually a rebadged Laney Cub with a couple of extra bits thrown in. Lots of value for money on this! Almost definitely purchasing this one!

A few people have mentioned these Monoprice amps to me. I would imagine it’s exactly the same amp, and the factory that makes them just badges them up with whichever brand wants them. I think that’s fairly common in the budget brand world where a big factory might supply multiple brands. I haven’t tried the Laney Cub but it would be interesting to find out if that’s true!

Thanks so much. Yeah it's crazy for the money... sounds really good... I do wonder that myself about the longevity side of it. Would I trust it enough to take it out on tour... probably not... would I use it for brand rehearsals? Definitely. I think it's the sort of amp that's ideal for someone getting their first serious amp, but without breaking the bank, but I wouldn't imagine it would stand up to life on the road.... BUT, I could be wrong about that!

Should have bought a fender princeton reverb when they've cost about 750,-DM which would be now about 370,oo€ so est. 334 dollars. Yuph thruth. I was such an Idiot in 1989-90 😭😭😭😭
