I used to play with some older guitar players in my local scene. Lots of experience to be gained and tricks to learn. One friend in particular who passed away told me that when he was young a budget guitar was actually straight up bad. Like no trussrod, frets all over the place, pickups that were microphonic af and all that good stuff. Neck issues constantly. Those guys never gave up. To be even to be able to get a guitar for this amount of money in this quality. I mean out of the box they need work. They get fabricated in a different climate other end of the world. Get slapped into boxes, get stored, get shipped across the ocean and somehow they hold up. In Europe we have Thomann and Harley Benton same kind of ballpark in terms of price/performance. In the old days the Japanse stuff was cheap and actually good. He told me how mind blowing Japanese Squiers were back in the day (JV models) later Korean stuff came also pretty dope. Nowadays China is picking up pace. Can't knock it for the price paid.

Mine had the bridge on backwards. All I did was put new strings on and polished the frets. It sounds and feels great.
@nklzcyn Жыл бұрын
The bridge is installed “backwards” because one can’t intonate the guitar with the large bridge pickup which, would block the screws.
@CKS64 Жыл бұрын
Contrary to some other comments I have seen posted the Stoptail bridge can go any way. Check it out at various forums even Gibson guitars that use it can be shipped either way. If you have problems with intonation switch direction of saddles to give you more room. Their is also a KZbin video explaining the geometry.

I remember getting a cheap Les Paul Custom clone (Aspen) 40 years ago. Beautiful guitar. It was special because it was my first guitar i bought new for 300 bucks. I remember i would tune it and the open chords sounded nice. But when I tried chords down the neck, man, it was very out of tune. So I sold it a year later. Enter eBay. Went crazy buying used guitars. All imports, but crazy cheap. Started to tinker with them since they weren't expensive. I wish I knew then what I know now about guitars. Long story short, I wish we had these good cheap guitars then.
@daviedood250315 күн бұрын
What all did u learn tinkering with them? Im getting into it just now. Was looking around amazon to see the kits with amps with them. Would putting money towards a great amp be better than starting off with a super good guitar? Im trying to learn to play. Im not sure why owning a cheap guitar would be bad. They can't stay in tune? What if i put better strings than what came with it? Would it stay in tune then? Any help is much appreciated. 🤘😎🔥
@oldschoolfunkster115 күн бұрын
@@daviedood2503 ... Changing strings would be a great start to getting a slightly better sound. Upgrading pickups would make a big difference in the sound too. I would stay with a small amp since you're beginning and it's just being used for practice. The major things to learn in fixing a guitar to make it better is to adjust the truss rod to lower your playing. It'll feel easier on your fingers than higher strings. But don't lower the truss rod too low, otherwise you'll get frets buzzing. Also, one of the things I learned was that there're actually TWO areas of the strings length that you need to tune. I thought it was just the tuners and that's it. Nope. You also have to tune the OTHER end also. The saddle bridge has screws for each string to adjust. That's called "intonation". You calibrate it with the same digital tuner you use when you tune open notes. The saddle notes are tuned by pressing the 12th fret (double dotted) and calibrating it as if it was open notes. It takes some time to get it right, but after you've completed it, the guitar will sound perfect when you do bar chords all down the neck.
@daviedood250315 күн бұрын
@oldschoolfunkster1 hole leee hell, thanks man. Gonna screenshot this so I have it for later. Changing pickups. I watched a couple videos about pickups. Like where it's located, parts of the guitar etc, but never saw anything that talked about types of pickups and pros n cons. Last video I saw before this said "ceramic" but idk what that means in terms of guitar quality. I assumed, pickups were super important, bridge, the electronic board inside the guitar, frets, the height of the strings off each fret. Mainly INTERNAL quality and pickups are important vs what type of wood it's made from. My problem is, idk what's a low grad, medium grade or high grade pickups. My last question is HOW would u make the guitar KEEP the tune longer besides not playing it haha. Don't bend notes? Quality strings? Don't use nylon? Appreciate your time man. Ur helping me 💪🔥
@oldschoolfunkster115 күн бұрын
@daviedood2503 ... Best way to keep a guitar in tune the longest is to buy some "locking" tuners. They have a turning knob on the back that AFTER you tune the strings, you turn the knob until it tightens. It's like a "brake" for the strings not to loosen. Also, before you put in new strings a cheap trick is to use the lead of a pencil and coat the grooves of the guitar neck nut where the strings sit in. This lubricates the nut/string friction and lessens them from kinking and breaking strings. A good guitar player always bends notes. That's part of the expression palette. Most players bend strings, so I wouldn't worry about that. Yeah, pickups are a little too much to work on for someone just starting out. It evolves soldering. For now just make sure your pickups are adjusted not too far/too close to the strings. Google pick up heights to see your guitar style recommendations. This will help your guitar sound better. If it's too far, they sound weak. Too close, the string is affected by the magnet and will sound distorted and sometimes stick to it. Exchanging pickups takes more doing, but for now you just need a comfortable guitar that will not turn you off from practicing, but to encourage you even more. There are many string qualities out there. Some cheap, some expensive. Of course it's because of the range of quality. I use Ernie Balls. Professionals use it too. Plus they're on the inexpensive side. The gauge I started with was Extra Super Slinky .008s. They are the thinnest, but also the easiest to bend. And yes, easier to break, but you have to be a hard bender to break the thin E string. Never use nylon on electric guitars. They won't work unless it's an electric acoustic guitar. Almost forgot, you need to know the "radius" of the neck so you can adjust the bridge saddles to the appropriateness. With this you'll have to invest in some special measurement tools. Very inexpensive to buy on EBay or Amazon or even Temu. They are plastic or metal material, but it helps you to figure out what your guitar neck radius measurement is and what your bridge saddles radius should be. Gibson style guitars have a tune-o-maric bridge with a pre-measured radius that matches the neck. I know that's alot. But there's way more! This is just to get your guitar in a better playing mode where you don't get turned off and stop playing your guitar because it doesn't sound or feel good.
@daviedood250315 күн бұрын
@@oldschoolfunkster1 no this isn't too much I'm appreciating this! On pickups, is there's a certain type to look for when buying a guitar? What would be a "bad" or "too cheap" pickup type / model? I'm not sure the differences between a 500 dollar guitar and a 150 dollar one. What exactly are u getting for that extra money? The pencil trick made sense on how to do it. Any advice on how to read the fret board? As an outsider, seems like a lot to remember/ figure out. Kinda envious of guys who can walk up and down it effortlessly 🤣🔥

SOLID BODY: The guitar body and neck are crafted using premium mahogany, ensuring durability and a high-quality feel. @@MrJohnnyDistortion that was copy and pasted from their website. Since then I have found some issues with the guitar. For example, the body is not made of mahogany. It’s made of poplar. They did not use jumbo frets. There is a grounding issue on the bridge which causes a buzzing noise. I have been in contact with the company and they are aware of the issues. My advice going forward is not to order any bridges out of China that are powder coated. It is usually better to go with plating as that will not cause an insulation issue.

I bought the cheapest Epiphone LP made and it has a wrap around bridge and wonderful sounding P 90 pickups for $137 but i replaced the bridge with a wrap around bridge with tunamatic wrap around one so it is intonated perfectly and that added & $88 to the price . It is the best $225 guitar you can find for vintage sound and excellent tones. The neck is not bad and plays well every fret ! I play it thru a monoprice 20 watt tube amp that is a Laney cloned Cub 12 combo amp with one 12" celestion 70/80 speaker that matches the amp tone for $ 250 about and one year later both guitar and amp sound awesome ! I added a ABY pedal to also play my Bad Cat cougar 5 watt combo so it sounds stereo and really fills the room without being loud with both amps going and i got the Bad Cat on stupid deal of the day at MF at a huge discount with the vintage 30 speaker ! I have collected many vintage 12ax7 & 5571 tubes years ago before they became very expensive . I buy and bias my amps with a multimeter using two probes , one shows plate voltage and the other shows the grid voltage ! I cannot afford to send my amps to any shop for tubes which are just like plugging in a light bulb but you need to use the same number tube EL84 that came in the amp. Good equipment can be very expensive so i try to get the best bang for the buck !

Wow this Les Paul looks like Esclipse.

The bridge is on backwards, the saddle screws should face forward (towards the headstock) which will allow for much better intonation.

The Bridge can go any direction. Even Gibson the original manufacturer says so. I have all manner of Stop Tail bridge guitars it makes no difference. If you have Bad intonation you can face the screws to the back if your saddles are the right direction for More movement. All over the Internet and Internet forums you can look it up yourself. There is even a KZbin video explaining the geometry of it.
