An early builder is only really worth it when the tile improvement is giving more value than just +1 prod, and it's giving that value to a tile that's already workable. Examples that satisfy this condition, potentially justifying starting to produce a builder on turn 1: Improving a reef fish with a fishing boat (reef fish is a 3 food 1 prod tile, with a fishing boat it becomes 4 food 2 prod in BBG) Improving a deer hill in tundra as Canada (starts as a 1 food 2 prod tile, becomes a 3 food 2 prod 2 gold tile with a camp thanks to Canada's bonus) Improving a freshwater plains hill tile adjacent to two mountains as Inca (starts as a 1 food 2 prod tile, becomes a 4 food 3 prod tile with a terrace farm) Examples that don't satisfy this condition: Improving a salt tile with a mine (It goes from 2 food 1 prod to 2 food 2 prod - this doesn't improve your tempo at all if you already had 2-2 tiles to work) Improving an ordinary fish tile with a fishing boat (It goes from 2 food to 3 food 1 prod - it's still no better than a regular 2-2 tile you likely already have) Improving a forested grassland hill amber tile (It goes from 2 food 2 prod 1 culture to 2 food 3 prod 1 culture - this gives you a better tile to work, but the value of opening a builder here is still lower than opening a scout, due to tribal villages / city state first-meets / era score the scout would earn)

Why not send a trader immediately before declaring war? You get an additional combat bonus and only have subpar yields on one trade route for a turn or two. Surely you should always do that when playing Kublai, even if you already have overwhelming advantage.

The Better Balanced Game mod has a change that causes trading posts to no longer grant diplo vis against civs you're at war with, so this classic Mongolia strategy doesn't work in BBG multiplayer games.

@HersonCiv Really? I didn't play a ton of MP but when I did we used BBG and I never noticed. Usually traders we sent are for roads to make the attack easier and no one ever waits until it is completed so I never found out. I also never played Mongolia in MP. Thank you for teaching me something new.

one of the player in his game met Kumasi, saw that there was an Amani in it, saw that it was Herson's, the Herson that was playing Kublai, so he mentionned it in the chat. Aztec needed to meet a 3rd city state for his Political Philosophy boost, maybe for golden age, knowing that when you are in war with someone, the city states he is suzerain of are revealed to him.

@@crossfire340 I remember hearing a reason why a long time ago. It might be different now. But those two maps are still “Pangea” style where the whole map is connected. With seven seas it’s fun since it allows Naval coves to have fun and have an impact. For highlands the production for cities is super high. Also more favorable secondary and tertiary cities locations. My favorite map is either archipelago or Seven seas. Sea civs are my favorite

The thing I'm talking about here is the CPL Season 2 FFA Finale, which is just a match between the top 10 players on the CPL free-for-all leaderboard that'll take place on August 3rd. There's no tournament leading up to the match - the participants are purely invited based on their positions on the ranking leaderboard, which is based on an elo system that's calculated using every FFA game played in CPL in the past 6 months. I'll be streaming the finals as a caster live on my twitch account at Twitch.tv/herson100 - it'll start at 12 PM EST, August 3rd. There are actually full-length tournaments for Civ 6, but all of them are based around 4v4 teamers formats, not free-for-all. Those events are Civ World Cup (CWC) and CPL Premiere League, which you can find coverage of at @OnSpotTV on KZbin.
