Excellent review Luke. We don't have this brand yet - to my knowledge - here in Australia. I have a BYD Atto 3 which I've had for two years. An amazing vehicle. No wonder they're so popular here. I look forward to looking around a Leap T03 when it arrives. EVs are selling in huge numbers in the Australian market. We have a huge solar array at home with battery back up and therefore, we'd be crazy not to have an EV. Thanks again.

Looks like that €8000 price is due to Malta giving an Electric Vehicle Grant of €11,000 for electric cars and vans ( I had to Google it because I was surprised). I'm also wondering if the Paris show price was based on the original Chinese import that's going to attract a tariff whereas this model has recently started production at a Stillantis factory in Poland thus avoiding that Tariff

The three driving modes are all sensible, including the Sport mode. They don't make a significant difference in acceleration or top speed. Even in Eco mode, the car reaches 140 km/h according to the speedometer. However, the level of recuperation varies depending on the mode. Since recuperation can only be adjusted through the driving modes, the Sport mode is not pointless.

When it comes to efficiency checking, I routinely would not take the car's instruments at face value. You really have to measure the kilometres, measure the KwH replaced, and do your own calculation. If you're using a public charger, you may not be able to trust the KwH figure delivered with sufficient accuracy either. You have to verify everything independently.
@TheFutureisElectric25 күн бұрын
My calculations are never based on the range displayed on the dashboard. I use the known usable battery size and see the cars efficiency after I’ve reset the trip meter. If you’re implying the efficiency number is manipulated… then that’s another diesel gate waiting to happen.

I'm sorry, just no. When the "incentives" amount to 50% of a car's value there is something very, very wrong. It'll be very interesting to see how long these things last. If they're not still going after at least 7 or 8 years, then really they're no better than the traditional cars they are replacing.

I agree the grant is a bit on the high end… and in fact is being reduced from 12k to 9k next year. Regarding your longevity comment. I started this channel because my family decided to give electric cars a go … 12 years ago… our currently oldest car is approaching 10 years, it still has 89% battery health… and everything else is fine.. Since then my family and friends EV count is now at 25 cars ;-)
@jasejj25 күн бұрын
@TheFutureisElectric Yeah that's fair enough, on earlier EVs where costs hadn't been pared down to the bone. As to whether this "price-engineered" car will perform as well - especially in the UK where the colder weather is much harder on the batteries - remains to be seen.
@BernardSamson-hf6fc25 күн бұрын
Fact is a ICE car can run around all day, take five minutes to re-fuel then go again. An EV takes 10 Hours to fully charge, something you are not actually supposed to do, then it runs out with 20% of battery left, after about 100 - 200 miles, and another 10 hour wait. Keep your expensive milk floats/ golf carts. I'll stick with a diesel.
@TheFutureisElectric25 күн бұрын

So are you saying you'd like the UK to introduce the petrol/diesel scrapage scheme that Malta has for it's citizens (a bit like the Scottish scheme but on steroids), one that saves people's lives and improves quality of life by taking polluting cars off an island country's roads? If so I'm all for it, but other petrol heads seem to complain about EV incentives (despite their being none in the UK now) taking away their hard earned tax pound - even though it saves more money by reducing the stress on the NHS from pollution related illness and increasing lifespan and hence the tax take.
