Player-protests, especially ones involving ones in cancelling memberships, are 10x more effective when giant investment firms are involved. Usually it's bad because obviously no company wants to see sales drop, but with big capital firms involved it'll cause Jagex higher-ups to sweat bullets, especially when some suit who authorised tens / hundreds of millions of dollars appears demanding answers. The community just gained more leverage than they realise.

This made me so mad. I know it's just a videogame we're talking about, but they're still trying exploit people until they ruin the game so bad they can't sell it off. It makes me sad because the Jagex mod team is actually great, and I'm sure the management/investors told people to come up with ways to squeeze the players dry and that's what they did, but still. Kind of mixed about it. It's obvious they know what players want and have some good ideas (multiple characters, better customer support, pausing membership, etc...). I also have no issue with Jagex themselves, the jmods are incredible and very passionate. I think the issue is the investment companies and possibly exec level at Jagex too. Not really getting worked up on the numbers because I know it's not set in stone, those are just some examples tossed into the survey. I'm not so sure I think additional characters needs to be free, I think discounted would be really nice though. Even though we have different modes, generally speaking RS doesn't have a class or race system, and the idea is that you have a main account which you pour like 90%+ of your time into. It's still pretty niche to have 3+ accounts that you have active interest in. The complimentary bonds is stupid, and of course they'd give that to mobile players 😆 The ads plan is pretty stupid too, and if they did have that, it better be like $5 or less/mo lmao. What's the worst to me is the afk timer, customer support and account security. Basic services for an account that should have been 10x better, 10 years ago! We literally couldn't use capital letters in our passwords for 20 years, until Jagex accounts became a thing. It's honestly offensive and stupid. All in all though, I think the OSRS community will have enough pushback that even if they're deadset on this package idea, we'll meet in the middle and OSRS will still chug along. I DO, however, think this could be death for RS3, especially if they separate packages (Which from my take on the survey, it didn't really seem like they planned on doing that. I think that's just a misunderstanding. I think the idea was that benefits are shared, OR probably wasn't a good word in that example. But honestly, who knows at this point.) RS3 is at a pretty low playerbase (I think 20kish) as it is and if that community is milked for $ any more I think they'll be done. Which I'd be sad about because I still enjoy RS3 for the quests and comparing the story differences to OSRS lol.

Just like me, there are thousands of ppl that played and loved this game since the early days, in fact a lot of us played runescape for more than half of their life. We raised up with Runescape, we have so much memories and feelings connected to it. Runescape's hold on me was already waning by 2015 by discovering other games, but by the start of 2018, that grasp had been severed. There was nothing left for me with regards to what I liked in the game, but I sometimes watched silly videos or interesting ideas with how people played their accounts. It still never drew me to returning, but with what's gone on the past day or so, that certainly is never changing, even if it weren't to happen, as they showed their hand. This "long break" is, for all intents and purposes, permanent. Despite all that, it's a genuine shame to see a game I once adored so much decline, to the point where it may end up in a death spiral, and I feel for those that still are here. Hope y'all get through it, as this is absolutely fucking insane for them to even consider, and reinforces my belief that corpos ruin everything.

Free to play need to be enhanced not limited. It now has an afk timer of no more than 10 seconds, you have an exp cap, you have ads you have a minimum of 3 teleports a day, you have 8 locked inventory spaces. It can't get much worse! My brother wanted to start playing and just made it to lvl 20 in ftp, now he will never get a bond because he is completely deterred! It's not like it was ever practical or possible for ftp. Just turn away every new player. Well done.

I can't believe WOW is still the same price after all these years. I played RS because it was only $5 a month. I'm so SICK of constant ads from KZbin and games on my phone, that I will quit all my accounts if RS3 and OSRS starts showing adds. I'm not going to pay for security and customer support because that should be basic. They will just take our money and continue to not give us either. Though Modern blizzard doesn't have customer support either, You used to be able to call them up back in the day and GMs would answer tickets and actively play the game, Thats not the case anymore, all you get is an automated canned response that solves nothing and the geniuses at blizzard decided that if 3-4 players report someone it will automatically mute them and it won't be revoked unless manually done by a blizzard employee which doesn't exist anymore so you can silence anyone for any reason. Meanwhile they have allowed blatant bot armies out in the open to crawl all over dungeons and battlegrounds and nothing is done about it. They are no better than Jagex. The real question I have is when is this survey coming out so I can decline all proposed changes? For a casual player like me it's confusing to find any details on where to fill in this survey. I would assume it to be on the poll booth in game after reading the newspost, but it's not there. It's also not on my account email. So where is it? EDIT: Reading through the newspost of concerns and pre-emptive apologies, I see that random players get selected for a survey by e-mail. Honestly this is crazy and also scummy because what this does is spread out the survey over a long time to avoid backlash and riots in-game. Sometimes you need a group of passionate people to make casual players understand the meaning of the proposed changes. Keeping it under the radar and making every casual fill it in for themselfs is honestly concerning (and manipulative).

Man I remember when RS was just $5 per month. My first mmo game further going down the drink. Adult idea though - this is why regulations exist. Company gets too big and tries to acquire too much shit- boom, anti-trust lawsuits. Companies will take advantage as long as there is wiggle room. In the mean time, as others have suggested, protest. What I don't get is why people are getting excited over "all-time record playercounts". One guy's video I saw he mentioned how the game recently had a quarter of a million people online. Like.. so? How many of those accounts are bots, both F2P and P2P? OSRS has had a bot problem since launch, I don't know why anyone would use the playercount as evidence for the game doing exceptionally well and using it as argument that these changes will turn away paying customers who love the game. A ton of those paying customers are botters whose sole reason for "playing" and paying is to make money off of the playerbase.

I've been taking a little break but planned on letting my membership renew so I could hop right back in whenever I wanted. This made me cancel it like three days before it would have renewed because it's clearly asking "How badly can we screw you over without making you quit?". This is a slow burn game and even if they don't implement these exact models I don't trust that they're not gonna pull something slimy; the writing is on the wall and I don't want to be re-invested when that happens. AFK Timers? Ads on a paid membership? Tiered customer support? What nonsense. I feel very sad for the OSRS devs who have proven time and time again to be passionate and dedicated to making this game the best it can be, but who then have to answer to whatever lunatic higher ups pedal these awful ideas. Even if they actually don't try to pull a slimy screw-over tactic in the future, this is not a good look as far as keeping in the player's good graces. Maybe if they prove over time that they aren't gonna pull something like this (and maybe knock the membership prices down a couple bucks) I'll be back. But I think this is a sign that a nice long break is in order.

it seems to me like the survey was designed to push the $32/mo option as the preferred choice... they know that the majority of their playerbase has 3 or fewer characters... so this option maintains their current revenue while pretending to offer a discount for players who play multiple accounts... if you play on 3 accounts you save about $10/mo, if you play more than 3 you save significantly more... but for anyone who plays 1-2 accounts it's yet another price hike... but compared to the other options it's the "most acceptable" one because it actually gives you more value instead of increasing the cost while reducing the value of your membership (which is what the other options are really doing, when you look past the farce of a discount)...

wow has even more versions. there is classic fresh, classic era and the classic version thats repeating every addon wich is now in cataclysm with mists of pandaria comming in a few months. playing wow on and off and the value for what i get is just really good. keep in mind you an now buy the sub even with ingame gold

i think that if this update hits, I will quit the game for real. I might play her and there on 1 char for 1 month at a time as i do in wow. I quit there because of daily"scape". And that felt like a fulltime job + FOMO. I dont like that feeling so then ill go grind GC in Rocket League :D

Cancelled my sub and won't be resubbing until they release a simple, binding statement that says they will never introduce MTX or ads into OSRS for any paid tier. The apology they issued was full of slimey lawyerspeak which didn't explicitly rule any of those things out so as far as Jagex are concerned they are still on the table.
