When I was first exposed to quake speedruns it looked like magic, but what this channel has taught me that there's no magic, only insanity in the best way possible. Inspiring.

This is not a joke, but the finish of this video almost made me tear up a little bit. After first seeing Muti's reaction of when he messed it up, followed just 2 minutes after by the success of all his attempts, harvesting the fruit of all his efforts... I just say wow. All respect to Muti, incredibly well done and that's an understatement!

I love these videos. As someone who's never played Quake and generally isn't into speedrunning I normally find this type of stuff uninteresting. A lot of speedrunning content is very loud and obnoxious to me, but the laid-back and more reserved tone and production is great. You do such a good job of explaining the tricks and showing off the tech and mastery behind pulling them off. I also love how you always go through the history of the records showcased and the progression through the ages, these videos also feel like neat little history lessons on a niche part of gaming culture.

Peter was one of those runners who, (like Nolan Pflug and maybe others), had a slow PC, and had to think "outside the box". But while having a good framerate is undoubtedly an advantage, there are also rare places where it can be a benefit (eg wind tunnels). I sometimes wonder if some of the crazy tricks he pulled off were a direct result of this.

Just to comment on something minor which many people might have missed: *Peter's run* from 2005 ended on 22.8 seconds... Whereas *Muty's* from 2023 ended on... *21.7 ... !!* My point is... we're not talking about just knocking off *just a few tenths* of a second here... *It's AN ENTIRE second !! :O* .

I remember watching downloaded demos of Quake clans in the '90s of their crazy moves and rocket and grenade jumps. I've played a LOT of Quake since 1996 and have burned out a 17 inch CRT from Quake and DOOM alone but the THOUSANDS of hours of Quake I have played is a joke compared to seeing what these Quake GODS can do. Not a day goes by where I don't think about all the fun I had playing Quake deathmatch on dialup on the Pentium 133 and later the Pentium 200MMX.

I never got into speed running, but I absolutely loved the original server-side Threewave CTF on the single player maps. This was one of the best. edit: Loved the overlayed demo players from one camera angle, that really helped to illustrate the iterative nature and failed attempts. The most peculiar aspect to me was the "grenade timer" on the streamer's POV - reminds me of the old scripts we used to make for timers in Team Fortress - although those used audio cues, not a screen overlay.

I've been playing Quake on and off since it was released and I like to think I've gotten quite good at it. These players are on another level though. It's like magic to me. The single-minded determination required to get to get a top time in this era is almost superhuman. I just don't know how they do it. I mean, you can explain it to me and I understand the concept, but the execution is mind boggling. I watch the replay and my eyes just glaze over and by the end of it I'm sat here wondering where the last 30 seconds of my life went.

Can I ask a quick question about *WHEN exactly* in 2023 did Muty start *to ATTEMPT* speedrunning this ??? You said the record was set June 13. But when did Muty start doing it? It would have been cool to point that out, as it would have demonstrated to us *just HOW LONG* he strained himself !! :) Also, you were too quick to end this at the end... Why not theorize just a bit if a time of 20 is possible ?? Muty appears to think so as per his on-stream live headers... *And... YOU ?? :)* .
