You too should make a beginners course for animation, Grantt. You are the best teacher I have found and I am sure it would help all of us. It does not have to be this deep but a good foundation for people starting with animation in Blender. Just a suggestion 😜

From a different course I;ve gotten from Pierre: His French accent is very heavy but he usually provides subtitles, might still be a problem to some. He also did use one addon in a previous course which I never was able to get working. Being newer to Blender and not knowing how to find work arounds this halted my progress. I have no idea if he does use addons in this course but it might be something to keep in mind.

I think a lot of the assumed knowledge is his belief that the audience see Alive! as a continuation to his Art of Effective Rigging Course. Animation does come after rigging after all. It looks cool. But I spent over 30K learning how to animate and to be Honest I rather learn from you. Because you are a good teacher who is qualified and Blender User. and Royal Skies is fun gets to the point and really has a good amount of Basic's in Blender and some animation and the videos are not that long. I have watched some of the video's and usually, there is some foresight with the user knowing blender. His stuff is not really aimed at beginners.
@TsiratiugZ3 жыл бұрын
I hate to be the dissenting voice, but I kind of regret getting this course. Now I'm not a Blender expert by any stretch, but I'm also not a complete beginner. However, for a comprehensive course, I found that the pace was a bit too quick at times and some topics which I would consider fundamental to animation were glossed over (e.g. rigging). Also, many of the tutorials start post-setup with things such as rigs already created and python scripts being introduced with little to no explanation of their origin or how to reproduce for our own projects (or why we might need to). Another example of glossing over was in the squirrel section where we got a sped up video of setting up the animation keying set. While the concept was introduced in a previous video, I would have appreciated a real time, step-by-step walkthrough as I found the sped up video to be of little value. As such, I often found myself pausing the video so I could look up more detailed explanations on the internet because I couldn't reproduce what was being shown. Finally, while I would never fault someone for having an accent, it does get in the way at times and I found myself repeatedly stopping/rewinding to catch what was just said. I know subtitles are available, but I'd rather be focusing on what's happening on screen in Blender as opposed to reading as it's way too easy to miss an action being shown. While these may seem like little issues in isolation, they add up to a sense of quickly getting left behind as the lessons progress. I also don't want to imply that there isn't a lot of valuable content here, there is. Just know that beginners in Blender may feel overwhelmed.

you said that you should have at least some basic experience in animation before doing the course. is there any course or set of videos that you think would get people to the level where they can comfortably transition into this course? for instance do you think your beginners guide to animation playlist would be enough, or would you recommend checking out something else? I know you mention CG Cookie, but that seems like a full course that covers a bit more than the basics. also, when you talk about how completing the course doesn't automatically make you an animator, are you referring mainly to how you need to apply the techniques learned consistently through other projects to be an animator, or is there anything specific you think is probably missing from the course that viewers should study afterwards?
@grabbitt3 жыл бұрын
Yes exactly that. I think if you have done my beginners guide it should give you just enough insight but it does depend on how you get on
