I have been scared of scarecrows and cornfields for as long as I can remember. When I tell people that they almost always say "is that because of Children of the Corn?" Have you seen that movie??? The ending is ridiculous and would never incite fear. The sfx are awful. Anyway, I always compare it to a fear of the dark. You can't see what's in front of you. You could easily get lost and never know something is just a few rows beside you. These episodes of goosebumps, the haunting hour, etc. are terrifying to me. I LOVE EM! 😊

Fantastic job covering this episode. It's one of my favorites. There's definitely different changes between the book and the episode version. Some are meh. While others are horrifying. Scarecrows can definitely be creepy as hell; even just being in a vast cornfield with nobody around or lost in a corn maze are frightening prospects. There's a film recently covered by The Cobwebs Channel called Dark Harvest (it's not a standalone review, it's part of a list of themed films). The story is that circa 1960, there's a small town where the teen boys all have to wage a full-scale war against a monstrous scarecrow that rises from the cornfields (I suppose failure means the town is destroyed by a curse or something).

They probably changed the ending cause they didn’t want to encourage setting cornfields on fire, idk some censors are overly worried about kids recreating what they see on tv. Or maybe imagery of things on fire is just to frightening. Or maybe they didn’t have budget for pyrotechnics. Now that I’m thinking about it there are so many reasons they could have changed it 🤷♀️

Great video👍 I didn't grow up on Goosebumps or Are You Afraid of the Dark, so it's interesting seeing what I missed out on. I’m usually not afraid of scarecrows, I love the scarecrow from Wizard of Oz. But they work well in horror, like Harold from Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. Have you seen the Scarecrow episode of the Australian series, Round the Twist?.... That scared the hell out of me as a kid. I don’t know how they thought it was ok for kids, like who approved of it? If I had a childhood trauma list, that would be my number 1 because it impacted me that much (I would've liked it if they burned or shredded those scarecrows...)
