I started disc golfing in the early 2000's and my parents bought this set so that we could play around the yard. We were amazed at how much different the discs were compared to proper disc golf discs. For playing around the yard they weren't bad, but we tried taking them on the course as extra discs and they didn't do well.

We called it Bee Golf. We basically had worse Wham-O ultimate discs. Wham-O came out with the 1st custom, a glow heavy wt. 190g. Ultimate size disc.

I am 60. I bought my first Frisbee golf disc in 1983. My first ace was in 1985 with a 70 mold, about 125ft. I still have one in perfect shape. I guess I will never get rid of it. I was going to school at FSU and we had a little 9 hole course right on campus. Miss those days.

I started playing Disc golf in the late seventies. Early golf discs were a Frisbee (trademark) with extra wieght poured into it. At this time no other companies made golf discs. For example take a 50 mold (sold in normal stores as a 141 gram frisbee) and dump 250 grams of plastic into it. You could not buy these "golf" discs from a regular stores, you had to find someone on a course selling them out of their car. Or order from Steady Ed. These discs were almost always green, sometimes a pinkish color. I remember seeing the set you show here in a store back in the day But serious disc golfers would not use them.

Way back when I used to play Ultimate, with discraft ultrastars, we also called them discs and not frisbees because of wham-o. So it's not a discgolf only thing.

As a player since 1984, I can confirm that we definitely started calling it Disc Golf to avoid copyright infringement on the company we saw as the bad guys in the argument. It took me years before it became natural to call it Disc Golf instead of Fr****ee Golf. Now I get mad if anyone even says that word on the course. :D

Frisbee, Kleenex, Bandaids, ect.; brand names that have gotten so big we use them as catch all terms. Discus superseded Frisbee, but no one one was throwing discus casually at the beach so not surprising that Frisbee has taken over instead of disc.
