Learning the Lines

Күн бұрын

When I toured the Cheoy Lee 53' motor sailor I thought that it was about as close to perfect as you were going to get. Needless to say I loved it for what it was, but this 63' version just takes everything that makes the 53' great and turns that up to 11.
I do love both versions, each being perfect for the size of group/family you might be cruising with.
What do you think?

Learning the Lines is a channel about us, an average couple in our 20's, with big dreams to be sailing the world by the time we're in our 30's. We're not afraid to jump into anything, put in the work, and learn as we go. We started out with Somnium, an O'day 272, moved onto Freebie, an Endeavour 32, and now are focusing on sailboat tours and working full time as teachers while we save up for our next boat.
Please leave a like and comment if you've enjoyed the video, and subscribe if you haven't already.

I’m jealous! I’ve never been aboard a motor-sailor, and I think they are the ultimate vessel. It’s a lot of rigging, PLUS a serious diesel to maintain and become intimately knowledgeable of! But… I am retired - and still looking for adventure! Cheers!

Oh my god, this is the one, I would choose, it is absolutely perfect, well made and well finished, the wood interior is just perfect. Can not fault this boat whatsoever, normally there is something we all don't like, because no boat is perfect. But you know what, this one is. Even the stairs coming into the salon, are so spacious, everything so easy on your eyes. You can see that you would feel really safe in big seas. This is like a small ship. I need to find a youtube channel with the owners of one of these beauties. Kurt did a brilliant job, on a par with your filming easily. This boat gets a rating of 120 out of 100. in my book. I think the price is too cheap. Wish I had the funds. It would be sold.

I really liked this boat! I probably would have bought it if Kirk had just showed me the anchor locker from the forward stateroom! This would be the natural upgrade boat for me from my Catalina 24. ;) Full disclosure - I am not going to be able to afford either of these beautiful Cheoy Lees in this lifetime! When younger, none of the Cheoy Lees I saw in the '80s were what I would call top quality boats, or at least as I see them now. Of course I wasn't looking at any this big! But it is sure nice to imagine me sailing one of these and having room to take friends and family sailing with me. I don't really have either, but if I had this boat, I would soon have more than I could imagine of both! Please feel free to continue teasing me with that unreachable carrot. Tell Kirk he did a great job for you. If you run across any Macgregor 65s, I would be interested in seeing what they look like in a video.

This particular lady is a Schooner Rigged Ketch. She's got two head sails, and the mizzen mast, which mistakenly called the aft mast, is located forward of the rudder head. If the mizzen mast were placed aft the rudder head, she'd be Yawl. On a Ketch the mizzen's sail is actually a "drive" sail, while on a Yawl the mizzen sail (tape-cul) is for balance. There's no mortification being a canvas short of a full sail when identifying subtle differences of sailing rigs, after all young mate... you're still learning the lines. In the future, it would be advantageous for viewers to cover technical aspects of this beautiful lady..... sail condition, range under power, fuel consumption, size of fuel tanks, fresh water making gal. per day, generator Kw, ect. Everything important for long range cruising.

Except it isn't. A salon (suh-lawn) is indeed a hairdressers, but it is also the cabin area of a boat or yacht devoted to seated relaxation, often combined with a dining table. A saloon (sah-loon) is where cowboys go to drink.
