This is probably the best floor plan I’ve ever seen

Ok, that interior was just MIND blowing SWEET, finish was outstanding, layout was PERFECT in every way, you could live in the main suite and have your 1st mate and crew actually live in the front area with their own bathroom and shower! Just outstanding! * honorable mention was the fridge/freezer insulation was the biggest i have ever seen on any sailboat that cost under one million dollars, it was NO joke!

I owned a Hylas 46 for seven years. The forward head is very nice but the pullman berth is too much of a sacrifice. Two adults could never sleep there comfortably. Anyone >6 foot tall couldn’t sleep there either. On the plus side, the boat is very fast and easily maneuvered. The aft stateroom is very comfortable and Hylas does a magnificent job on the mattress. The galley is very workable and I like that little room is sacrificed for a NAV station… just about ready from my perspective. The cockpit is comfortable with easy access to the deck. My version had the main sheet traveler mounted just aft of the cockpit making sail handling a breeze for everything. The lazarettes on the rear deck are huge and large enough to hold spare fenders etc. so that nothing remains on deck. My boat had an arch with solar panels mounted on top along with an outboard motor hoist, dinghy davits, integrated liferaft and secure ring buoy storage. My criticisms are too many pumps (36 in total!), vulnerable rudder only about 4 inches shallower than the keel. Very poor engine access although assessable from all sides, just cramped. As I recall the displacement was around 27,000 pounds that severely limited motoring into the wind.

Couldn't agree with you more on being just about the perfect boat. The layout is exactly what we would want. Thank you for your time Jordan, and ignore the asshat comments below. Well, Jordan- that answers all my Hylas questions! Beautiful, elegant, functional & all of my dream desires wrapped into one well built boat! Like you, I like a full aft cabin & a pullman/ fore head design (Hunter 41 DS), but- the attention to detail, the vast cabinets everywhere, huge engine room- Wow! I'm in love. Like many, it exceeds my budget but a lot, but- dreaming is good, right? Hmmm, I even like the tidy 46' length- can fit into more harbors under 50'... Thank you & congrats to you both on your new home & baby boy!

This Hylas certainly checks all the boxes. Thanks for covering a true blue-water, live aboard, that doesn't require serious work (isinglass is quite fogged, no biggie)! After looking at the specs, I didn't see any mention of the bow thruster, and you didn't mention it either...but it appears on the port side of the binnacle in your video...or it sure looks like one. For shorthanded sailing, it's definitely worth mentioning. Thanks again!

The inside is beautiful and it is perfect for living aboard all year. Thanks for the tour of a really awesome boat. I sailed a fin keel double spreader sloop from S. Cali to Hawaii to Seattle, to S. Cali. No fin keel Marconi sloop is a good offshore cruising boat. Boat number two had a medium keel with an attached rudder and a junk schooner rig with a pilot house. I took the scenic route from Seattle to Hong Kong via New Zealand. Boat number two was ideal! Boat number 3 would be a catamaran with inside/ outside steering stations and a twin reefable wingsail rig.

Jordan & Randi; I've been searching for my "next boat" for about five months. I've recently closed on this Hylas 46 and am completing a minor refit. I am in Palm Beach until April 5th, when I begin the process of bringing her around the FL Keys and home to Pass Christian, MS. Have you ever thought of doing a follow-up video talking about the process of deciding on a particular boat that you've featured?
@bdphourde3 жыл бұрын
Jordan, I wonder if you would consider putting the model of the boat (Hylas 46) at the beginning of the episode title? It makes it so much easier to find later when I want another look. Most of the titles don't even have a boat model in them.

This is a lovely yacht. Having the head in the bow makes great sense. Quick question on the use of the term 'pullman berth': I though pullman berths are beds that fold down. Did this berth fold down; or does the term pullman berth means something else on a boat?

An interesting tour of living spaces. But a prospective buyer and serious sailor would like to know technical stuff like the electronics suite, engine and access to it and other mechanical. How many hours on the engine? Are the sails in need of replacement? The list goes on...

The general lay out reminds me of the Beneteau 40 CC from 1994 - also with forward head and Pullman bed . Though probably less blue water capable much nearer a realistic price range for the average buyer who plans to live a board.

Fantastic, a dream boat, but it's out of my price range 😆
@charsbob Жыл бұрын
The island berth is nice - if there are two people in it, no one has ti get up if their partner gets up. Hylas makes nice boats with lots of good features. On the engine, I'm curious to know what's on the right side (against the closed wall) Hopefully it's nothing you would need to access under way while the engine is running or shortly thereafter. The forward head is probably unusable in any kind of seaway. Overall, I'd say this is a lovely boat for day sailing or the occasional overnight. For longer passages there would need to be modifications to accommodate the crew. Still, a beautiful boat that someone will be proud to own.

What about the mast, inside the cabin, it looked to me like it had some type of wood compartment surrounding it that could be opened. The drawback for me was the lack of cockpit storage. Everything that should have been stored in the cockpit was stored below.

I wonder why putting the cabin aft of the head isn’t more common. Both the head and the cabin benefit when the hallway is removed. It just makes more sense to put the bunk closer to mid ships for Comfort anyway. Unfortunately, a Hylas is way out of my price range.

Nice point is the use of a lot more SS than aluminum you see on similar boats like the SS deck hatches instead of the ‘Lewmar replace every 10 years before they leak and destroy your interior or deck core hatches’ Fair price too for a well kept 2007 boat. Cheers Warren

Pretty much a perfect boat that you're getting a lot for the price. The only thing I don't like is that she has a 6' 6" draft which would make her a little to deep for some of the islands/reefs especially in the South. Other than that she's gorgeous and would make any amazing live aboard cruiser. Oh and a water maker is she doesn't already have one would be an immediate add that and a small gen set...
