THE BEAUTY OF MEDIOCRITY: I bloody hate wasting time. But I’m also starting to realise that great meaning lurks in dead-ends, misfires, bad shoots and flawed scripts. Projects I thought soaked up my most precious commodity might have great meaning after all. This film is another batch of short stories that didn’t make it on their own, and while at first glance seemed like a huge waste of time, turn out to be anything but.

I love this! About 10 years ago, I was going through a bunch of old (actual, physical) photos and I was amazed at how many of them were terrible. You know, those out-of-focus shots, the accidental button presses, the near misses. So I created a blog called "My rubbish photos: because even rubbish photos have a story" and I posted the photo and the story behind it. You've inspired me to revisit this in the new year. Thanks Beau!

I've been thinking a lot about this kind of thing lately - that sometimes the "bad" shots are actually the best ones: those that mean something and speak to you (even if others wont always be able to see it). That I should share my photos even if they're not "perfect", because life isn't and I'd rather photograph and share something real instead of just pretty.

Thank you Beau, for being who you are, and for sharing your thoughts, feelings and emotions. I am 24 years old, i have had a really good life but i still feel lost in certain parts of being human, mostly related to thought, contemplation, and for me you are my one and only inspiration for life. Your way of thinking and your morals to life is the perfection we as humans could every achieve. I guess you would never see this comment, but these are my honest emotions, and i comment this for myself firstly, in my mission to learn how to express myself. But if you ever see this comment, just know mate. I truly, deeply appreciate you, and i aspire to be like you. Truly you are the gold standard of being human. Thank you, take care and never change my friend!

Loved the one about the family trip to the tip. It reminded me that when we arrived at our new home town in Scotland a couple of years ago we didn’t have a car. So we tried to walk some rubbish to the local transfer station. Sadly, we weren’t allowed to leave our rubbish without having a vehicle because of safety reasons. Which, if you saw the layout you might understand. However, it is impossible to off load stuff without becoming a pedestrian at some point. It felt rather unnerving to think that folk who don’t have a car don’t have rubbish tip privileges!

I love how this man makes profound things so simple and so accessible! And, every single frikin time I watch a Beau video (it doesn't have to be new, it could be one from 4, 5 years ago) I feel an itch to just DO. It’s so potent. And, I've used it so strategically. I could have a ratty dead-tired day, and I’d end up running a few miles. OR fucking petting a leaf or a tree. Like magic. The optimism and wonder is so fuckin infectious. Thank you! Been a fan for a long time.

I think the "circuit breaker" film was a really good idea, and had real legs to inspire. Maybe if it was framed in not just work terms but life terms, it would be less work specific i.e. Waiting for a train, get quick jog in; on hold for a call, jog while you wait; hate the commute int he car, jog around the car park. Breaking up the mundane, predictable parts of life with something small special and new makes the simple interesting, the mundane exciting and and life more lived in the moment. Keep up the great work Beau, you are my favorite film maker!

Everytime i see really big and old trees, i always wonder what stories they could tell. In an ever changing world, trees are one of the few things that seem to be last. I walk past a tree where i live that was definitely planted before WW2. The odds of it surviving, the things it's seen, the people that have walked and talked past it. Love thinking about such things.

Some of my favorite memories with my dearly departed Dad were doing pointless things. We would go get free coffee samples from a local World Market store here in California back in the early 2000s. Or we would get a cheap lunch of a hotdog at Costco. Your trip to the tip reminded me of that. Mediocrity is necessary, and I feel there's an untapped potential there to make core familial memories, especially with children in tow. Those moments run deep.

I loved Junk Films and I love this. As a skateboarder, not a good one. There is a lot of editing left in the floor, out of focus shots, or just the same trick that really no one needs to see again. But that session was different to me. My last video I put the most work into. Is it my vision, no. But it is the best I could do with my current skill set. So I sent it. If people want to watch pro skating they can go watch pro skating. If they want to see an honest 47 year old put in work with passion for a kids toy then I am the guy. Anyway. I love these videos. Thanks for all you do. Absolutely brilliant.
