The video he mentioned, he is shooting gel. It shows subsonic going in about 15cm, vs supersonic 30cm. He was shooting from relatively close, urban combat distance. This is actually preferable, as the bullet will stay in the body, not fly through and hit someone else. Penetration is a function of the velocity, mass, and shape of the projectile. You can recalculate how it will penetrate using kinetic energy formula. If you know a particular bullet goes in, say, 30 cm at 400m/sec, it's easy to figure out how it will do at 300m/sec, because penetration depth will be directly proportional to kinetic energy difference.
@bluefalconssuck58813 жыл бұрын

i like that you included not shooting the plinky plink plates. A lot of factory subsonic ammo is not quality controlled like there supersonic ammo and no where close to hand loads. With the rite bullet and powder you can get very repeatable and very accurate rounds with more than enough KE to be viable in hunting and defense situations. There’s already a ton of subsonic specific hunting rounds and a ton of deer hogs etc are taken with them every year. A 240 grain bullet leaving the barrel just under supersonic and still traveling at 800+/- FPS at 300 yards is still approximately the knock down power of a standard 45 ACP at point blank range.

Dude, don't down play the energy on a 30 cal sub. If you have a fast twist barrel, (< 1:10) you can spin a 220 grainer, and it will have more energy at 100 yards than a 45 acp hardball at the muzzle. It will go through pine trees and all kinds of targets that you wouldn't think. Quiet does not necessarily mean low power. It looks like your subs were diverging at range which means that the twist wasn't fast enough for your bullet weight (length).

No, the quietest sniper rifle ever is a MTs-116M. Imagine shooting it with supersonic bullets, wow.

I don’t care how many safeties it has you should never twist on a surpressor or any other barrel attachments with a round in the chamber deff a mistake that went overlooked but just in case people don’t know, doing any of the latter is very dangerous and could result in serious injury or death under proper circumstance

Awesome video! Would it be possible to do a test with normal vs subsonic bullets on ballistics gel so a shooter could get an idea of how much velocity is lost? ..just curious. Great content! Keep it up!

Guys, at @9:18 you can see the round ripple through the air, it's nuts. Look at the target cam, lower left corner.

I'm usually very reserved when it comes to voicing opinions, especially on guns, but I think a R700 body with an Accuracy International chassis is complete sacrilege.
@heycidskyja46683 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. Why would anyone want to vandalize an Accuracy International like that!?

@@heycidskyja4668 I’m more about that classic slick black R700 chassis, nothing beats it. But yeah, it goes either way.

Fun fact: Sonic booms aren’t only created during the transition to supersonic flight. They occur throughout supersonic flight.

Sounds like my .177 air rifle. Maybe it’s just the camera’s mic.
@TexasPlinking4 жыл бұрын
Haha, if that .177 doesn't break the sound barrier they're probably just as quiet.
@dgibraltar4 жыл бұрын
That was my very thought. As a matter of fact, my current .177 is much louder that your suppressed rifle.
@MarceIious4 жыл бұрын
@@TexasPlinking ya my .177 is subsonic but it’s a break barrel so there is a sound of the piston inside. It can get supersonic with the right ammo but it makes the pellet really unstable severely hindering the accuracy.
@calholli4 жыл бұрын
@@MarceIious Yeah, subsonic isn't really good for much, accept being quiet in close range.
