Chain driven drivetrain is the worst part of modern bike IMO. Hopefully this works and ends up trickling down. Belt pinion ebike is my dream

The Athertons just posted a video of their belt bike. Looks fantastic!

This would make this season a little more interesting after all those rule changes. I like that Gamux bike, is the most beautiful bike on the DH circus right now IMO.

Riactions seem so positive for belts across the board. I guess if it's real innovation, riders will like it.

I have no favorite riders or teams but this year I will root of all riders on bikes with belt and gearbox! Go belts! I have high hopes that within few years we might see more bikes for the people with gearboxes and belts. Let's put the cassette and derailleur where the discarded tech resides now.

Would love someone to win the purse! Will be interesting to see if it changes DH bike design going forward, or it's just a blip.

I’ve always been surprised how slow DH and free ride bike manufactures have been to adopt gearboxes. In a bike park there are no real negatives to gearboxes.

They’ve been played around with for years now - think Honda RN01- but never really been commercialised. Maybe it’s time…

Nice work dudes. Like that bike in the background. That intense DH bike is unreal. Man Jeff Steiber is such a legend and amazing designer. I had a 2018 Intense Carbine Pro and it was incredible. I would do the belt drive but not sure who works on them here in the US. 👊👊

Intense has a great history trying new things with its DH bikes. First 29er DH bike being one of the most significant.

Sprung mass to unsprung mass is not relevant on a bike as we have arms and legs that can move up and down and counteract. The relevance of solely unsprung mass on a bike is suspension reaction time and even the relevance of that is diminished compared to something like a car which relies on sprung mass to counteract the unsprung mass. I'm sorry but it always amazes me how the bike industry really doesn't full understand the physics of certain things. Also the rider can be considered sprung mass, plus say 12kg of sprung mass of a bike, so say 80kg rider plus 12kg bike thats 92kg of sprung mass vs what 400g of unsprung mass in a cassette and rear derailleur, it's like 0.4% of the sprung mass, maybe a computer lab tests can pick up a relevance of that, but a human in the real world never could, another also is computer aided lab tests on suspension measure things in a static form again a human has legs and arms that are dynamic. Would be good to hear your thoughts on all of this

SO looking forward to the disappearance of the derailier, personally, apart from the cost a gear box is long overdue. Forever pulling debris out of them and the cassette, fiddling around adjusting them, breakages, lubrication, rattling noise and the poxy chain gets looped in a Knott during maintenance occasionally how? They brake off absolute crap. Incredibly reliable these days for what they are if you think about their fragility but come on. Bin em they’re shit. Silent maintenance free peddle when you want change when you want no wright flapping around at the back ….just build the box into a motor ye old Amish weirdos 😂 (although more costly again )

@MBRmagazineКүн бұрын
Well it was proven in as much as two teams raced with the system, and it worked well enough for more teams to adopt it. But obviously you also need the right calibre of rider to win races.

@MBRmagazine i totally agree with you on the rider perspectives. Looking forward to see it coming.
@RatluBoogerbag2 күн бұрын
No, because downhill racing proves nothing about how well the drivetrain works.
@timangus2 күн бұрын
But it does prove how well suspension works, which is hugely improved by not having your drivetrain attached to your rear wheel.
@mattcurran75262 күн бұрын
There’s a lot that drivetrain will do for improvements in downhill racing, it’s probably the best format for that type of drivetrain !
@josemorenoporras75062 күн бұрын
A single speed hub with a single cog,equal spoke length and no things hanging on the right side of the bike are good improvements for a DH bike. Drive train would keep way more clean and mass would be more centered on the bike. There are some drawbacks too,like more drag when on power and the weight of the gearbox itself. But for a DH bike the drawbacks are less obvious I think.
@wx2999Күн бұрын
@@josemorenoporras7506 the additional weight is actually an advantage, normally they have to add weight in that exact area by the bottom bracket
