Duisburg is actually quite nice for nature lovers, with the entire Wedau & Mündelheim area being my favorite. Landschaftspark Nord is also a great place for hanging out, especially in movie nights and street food festivals regularly held there. Cheers!

Nah, its just bland and dark and very uninteresting + high crime rate All of the ruhr area has a high immigration rate yet you never hear people talk shit about Essen or Witten or Castrop Rauxel (except maybe the train stations) Its just that duisburg is very unwelcoming, dark, bland, very industrialized (even more than other ruhr area cities) and it feels like the new york subway in some areas. Its not the worst city ever, not even the worst in germany rn, but it is still one of the most ugly cities we have

Bro, you should visit Gelsenkirchen. It‘s about 20 mins from Duisburg and is considered the poorest and worst quality of life city in all of Germany. But I feel like we don’t deserve that bad rep, there’s beautiful places, lots of football culture and some of THE best Döner‘s you‘ll find anywhere.

As someone who is from the Rhine-Ruhr area and worked a few months in Ludwigshafen: LU is basically a miniature version of your average RR-area city, like an enclave of the Ruhrgebiet. One thing I noticed was that people looked more healthy in LU and that the streets were definitely cleaner. The thing with LU though is that it is embedded in a very pretty and rural area - so what you will notice is, as soon as you enter, is the contrast, which enhances this feeling of ugliness.

There are definetly nicer areas to Duiburg, you visited the rather rough places But to be fair what you saw characterises the majority of Duisburg, so I wouldn't say that you missed out on a lot Duisburg is a nice centralised spot on the map for businesses though, there are many connections by Autobahn to neighbouring cities and it doesn't take long to get to other major cities like Düsseldorf, Essen, Bochum, Köln or similar

the football club in duisburg held a match last friday: 31k viewers, stadium completely sold out. it‘s crazy, especially in the 4th division of german football. but yeah there‘s some areas in duisburg that don‘t look that bad for example the „alsumer berg“ which is right next to the rhine and is worth a bike ride once in a while.

If you are in Rheinhausen for the Döner you should go to the Töppersee, when you're back in the central you should also check out the Innenhafen and the Rheinorange. You will quickly change your mind about Duisburg being ugly :)

Go to Düsseldorf, it starts when you enter the trainstation and then compare it to duisburg. Düsseldorf is praised for how "anime" it is, there are a lot of Asian Restaurants/Comic Shops and people seriously go there from all over germany because of it but it looks horrible, i think its much worse then Duisburg, cars and roads everywhere, sure there are some good looking places but so they are in Duisburg. Duisburg is not that bad and also sure there are also bad places but they are also in vienna (ranked as one of the most beautiful cities in the world and its in austria) in duisburg the "Innenhafen" is very nice for a walk for example

With Rheinhausen and Marxloh, you’ve already visited some of the uglier parts of Duisburg. But in my opinion, the worst area is Duisburg-Hochfeld. It’s also not the safest place in the evenings. You could have also visited the high-rise building known as the “Weißer Riese,” where the conditions are pretty bad. People even throw furniture and feces out of the windows.

So next to Essen, Mülheim etc and its on the Rhine river and its direct next to Düsseldorf and the Netherlands are also very, very close to this city. Even Cologne is not too far away. Maybe thats why the Chinese Seidenstraße ends here.
