Really liked this video and directly influenced me to purchase the C-Stand. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND AGAINST BUYING ONE, I'll go into some of the problems I immediately had with it, but first want to mention how I'm a bit disappointed in Threefold not mentioning certain aspects and makes me think the video is biased, although they're upfront about being hired to make the promotional video, still confused as to why certain aspects were skipped. The first big problem is that the base does not tightly lock down the main riser portion. There's a pretty huge amount of play and revisiting the video you can see just how insanely the light moves around 2:40 and 2:50. Mine might have even more play than in the video, but I feel a heavy light could not be safe on it and even wind could even make it sway back and forth, regardless of sand bags etc. Just super annoying to have the main portion which should be the most secure, the part that feels the least secure. I guess I could try to make it a more snug fit with some gaff tape or something, but not something I want to do on a brand new unit and would then make detaching the base harder. The other annoying problem is the portion that is supposed to hold the additional riser, the part that doubles as a hook as well,(you can see it at 4:43), does not lock in tight enough to even hold the riser in place. On my unit, you can never lock it in tight enough, the smaller riser just falls straight through and is only held up by the knob. That means if I pick it up or hold it upside down it'll just slide out, only the knob and gravity keep it in place. You can actually see this problem in Savage's video at 1:20 kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZyVhpaZbaubaLc Threefold's unit actually does the job perfectly...which also makes me think not great quality check on all their units. The other problem I've seen a few mention is how this is not corrosion free stainless steel and that seems like a VERY big problem down the line. I really wanted to like this C-Stand and really like all the innovative features it has. I called B&H to tell them about what was happening with it and gave Savage the benefit of the doubt thinking maybe I had done something incorrectly but they told me it seemed like my unit was defective and recommended I return it. I got a telephone number from them to call Savage, and see if maybe they could attest to their build quality and give them a chance to send me a better unit or walk me through some fixes for it. (There's not easy number to find on their site, so luckily B&H provided me the correct number) I called multiple times for an entire week leaving messages with different departments and never had anyone pick up or call me back. I was very patient and kind mentioning how I really wanted to like the product but clearly had a unit that had some defects and was curious if they'd recommend getting it replaced or if all the other units would be similar. I wanted to give them the option to make it right and send me a good unit, but they never did that. This also makes me think their quality check isn't up to par and not really hopeful a new unit would solve my issues. Probably a problem with most, if not all, their units. I will go with the Avenger C-Stand and return this item. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZCsXneJq7yVbsk

My savage-stand came unscrewed at the base after three shoots. The company basically told me to glue it back together and that there wasn't an issue.. never thought I'd have to glue my c-stand to get it to properly work lmao As much as I want to like it, can't say I'm inclined to buy another one.

The Flashpoint ones from Adorama do as well. Between the two (I own both) I prefer the Flashpoint, I just got the Neewer on sale though and I have to say I'm impressed, but the Flashpoint is a bit heavier and feels just a smidge more solid.

You are right! I do have 6 Neewer C-stands and they are great.
@zoanyway3 жыл бұрын
Problem with the Neewer c-stands is the turtle bases are not actually junior pin size. They're too small. This means you can't use the turtle base by itself to mount a light as a low boy.

I ordered 4 of these stands for a small grip van I am putting together. One thing I decided right away, is that I am going to remove that little hook completely. The little stands and junior to baby will still be in the van in its own spot, but as cool as that hook is, I see it either getting lost on a rental, or just getting in the way more often than not.

Is the Savage C Stand with the turtle base more durable than the Neewer version? I have the Neewer and parts started falling out during a shoot! Now the pole doesn't lock in place. If it tilts while being carried it falls in that direction. I tried getting the mid pole replaced and was told that the shipping charges would be too much and I should just buy another one! But, how long until the next one falls apart? I will. never purchase Neewer products again!

Do you think black magic is going to come up with mark ii versions of their pocket camera lineup any time soon?
@threefoldtv3 жыл бұрын
Hard to say. I think the pocket 4k & 6k specs wise are pretty future proofed, so I don't think a mark ii is coming anytime in the near future...but that's just our guess. I'd guess that a BM Micro cinema 4k camera would come out before a new pocket.

Great video but according to Savage when I asked what specific stainless steel is used in the making, "the polished stainless steel stand tubing is # 202," which is not corrosion resistant. According to their warranty page, Savage only gives their item like this a 90 day warranty rather than a year like everyone else. If there product is great, why not back it up? That, and they should stop telling people it is corrosion resistant. Not all stainless steel works the same way.

C stands that are spring loaded are EXTREMELY dangerous. I've had crew guys rushed to the hospital because they didn't know that it was spring loaded. I think I'll pass on this one. Too bad, because the other features are really amazing. Hopefully they will make on that is not spring loaded.

@adamkempenich3 жыл бұрын
@@Ranger7Studios Dang. Really sorry to hear that about your crew 😟 I just checked these stands---the top spring held ~15lbs of compression, and the bottom spring is somewhere between 25-35 lbs, it would appear. I wasn't able to get much throw from them (about the same height as in the video)---not sure what other stands' throw looks like, though. We'll definitely be keen on set about that, though --- thanks for letting us know.
@Ranger7Studios3 жыл бұрын
@@adamkempenich I know the Neewer stands are even more dangerous. The spring in those are horrible. I guess the best thing to to is pre warn people or just leave them a bit more extended, so they don't spring up upon opening.
