Would you choose this camera over the Fx6?
@threefoldtv15 күн бұрын
For the type of work we do, yes. If autofocus and built in NDs is important then the fx6 is a great camera! What keeps us using Blackmagic cameras is ultimately BRAW (and how well it works with Resolve )and their awesome camera OS.
@TannerGwaltney15 күн бұрын
Is the USB-C port the only way to trigger recording and does it work with the monitor port too? We use the Tilta Nucleus-M system for focus and we're looking at the Pyxis as a 2025 purchase.
@JulioBHJ16 күн бұрын
I saw the Pyxis at IBC this year and I was pretty underwhelmed, although I am fairly biased against Blackmagic cameras. Nevertheless, I'm a sucker for both rig building videos and Threefold videos in general, so there you go, have some watch time and a comment. New set looks dope by the way, you guys did a really good job on the studio!

Check out the Ursa cine LF, most powerful camera on the market right now
@JulioBHJ14 күн бұрын
@@Samvisualarts Yeah I saw that one at IBC as well and apart from the huge image circle, it's still not my cup of tea. For Threefold the Ursa LF would be a huge beast, especially with the Leitz Thalia lenses that were showcased with it, but sadly not for me.

Nice and detailed video. I build shoulder Rig also without using any cage system. Tho camera kinda doesn’t need it. Pyxis has this rigid core, so for my production purposes and documentaries, my rig build is perfect. Feel free to check it out on my channel and let me know your thoughts guys. Appreciate your work sharing your experience from production company stand point. Cheers! 👋

The nisi’s incompatibility with the mofage was the deal breaker for me. When with the Arles and I love them. The breakthrough is just soooo much more expensive. And the mofage has solid ND’s in addition to their VND which is nice
@threefoldtv16 күн бұрын
Yeah that rear protrusion is a real headache with the NiSi's. We love the size of the NiSi's, but if the Arles would have been out when we purchased the Nisi''s we probably would have gone that route instead. They look like incredible lens.

just bought the nitze vmount plate after watching this video. while waiting for my PL pyxis to ship also ordered the XLCS full metal jacket cage. so many rigging points
@-austinsmith16 күн бұрын
I’m not a fan of cages for this camera, seems to defeat the purpose of the design. I think people who get this camera come from cameras that have needed cages, so it’s just a change in philosophy IMO.
@simonmeyer_director10 күн бұрын
I think you are not really understanding the purpose of this camera and its design. This camera is made to be rigged up. Pretty much unusable without a cage

Given that the PYXIS is actually cheaper than a fx3. Would you recommend this body for an beginner-intermediate filmmaker, rather than the fx3.
@threefoldtv16 күн бұрын
It really depends on what type of content you shoot. If you absolutely need autofocus and something small the fx3 is great. If those aren't that important i think its hard to go wrong with the PYXIS. The BRAW codec is a far superior codec over anything in the fx3 and you get a larger open gate sensor with the PYXIS as well. We also love the UI of Blackmagic OS. I could go on and on but overall (autofocus aside) I think the PYXIS is a much more versatile "cinema" camera than the fx3.
@TLFILMS16 күн бұрын
@@threefoldtv definetly the pyxis rather than fx3: images. Sony is so digital, menu, cables management, everything. Pyxis for the win
@FelixCervantes8 минут бұрын
@@TLFILMS nonsense, the rolling shutter on a Pyxis is something you can't ignore. Rolling shutter is part of image quality. With the Pyxis, you are very limited to the types of shots you can take. I would take a FX3 any day over a Pyxis because of the rolling shutter. If the rolling shutter was not an issue, then the Pocket 6K would have been a hit. When you watch a Pyxis image on an iPhone and the rolling shutter is so bad that it causes motion sickness from a 5 second clip, then you know the rolling shutter is unacceptable.

Not good enough for that money... Why? Because the paper roll rests on the floor. Any cleaner will wet the floor and then wrack the paper. Its all shit solutions given that they charge like 200 bucks for it.

You were using the stock suspension which is really meant. To soften the big jumps and acrobatics, there is a smother suspension available for more of a urban use.

Honest question: It took over two years and countless hours of personal work to complete the build. Wouldn't it have been more cost-effective to hire professional builders to finish it in two or three months? That way, you could have saved time and avoided paying rent for the old space as well.
@threefoldtvАй бұрын
Good question, and that would have been amazing, but where we live that just wasn't an option for us. There are just no companies here to do a full commercial renovation and extremely custom build like this. Even the few jobs we hired sub-contractors for was a pain, so we're lucky to all be handy. We also had a fabulous deal with our landlord, so renting our old space was not a huge dent. It wasn't our plan, but the building purchase was an opportunity we couldn't pass up. Even looking back now, this was really the only project timeline that could get us in the quickest and cheapest.

would love to know the calculations on using staff time (plus lost work time) vs hiring out to contractors.
@threefoldtvАй бұрын
Our projects naturally ebb and flow so thankfully we were able to do work when projects were slower. It obviously still cost the company with payroll costs. Finding good contractors that would actually respond or that weren't booked out 6 months out was also a reason we had to do so much ourselves. Maybe other areas of the country are better but where we are there is too much work and not enough people to do the work. There was still stuff like HVAC, drywall that we did hire out. We hired half the windows out from a Pella certified installer and had a nightmare experience and with them installing them wrong. Which ended up costing us a lot of money and lost time fixing that issue. So the remaining windows we did ourselves because we realized finding good sub contractors can cause more headache than just doing it ourselves. With our team of six people we were able to keep 4 people on video projects the other two worked on the build out. Also because we were the general contractor for the project when video projects came along that needed all 6 people we would just put the build out on pause.

I know this is an old video, but hopefully I get an answer. Why do most of these builds attach the V-mount battery on the arms or camera itself? Doesn't that add a lot of weight for the gimbal to stabilize? Wouldn't it be better to attach the battery below the gimbal somehow, to avoid the extra load on the arms?
