Isn't it funny that the classic, fully mechanical Sunbeam Radiant Control toaster is still the smartest toaster around? It does toast one side of each darker than the other, but that's less important than the fact that it toasts each of those sides completely evenly with no dark at the top and light at the bottom. If only Sunbeam would put out a modern version that could handle bagels, and thicker or longer slices of bread, then people would probably gladly still pay a premium price for it, even without the touchscreens and computer chips.

I bet you the internals of this are identical to that of any $10 toaster aside from a screen and a little motor lowering the bread. Judging from the screen when it's "off" when at a 45 degree angle, it looks more like a capacitive touch panel with glass in front to make it seem like a fancy LCD display.. that would explain the issue with it recognizing your swipes.

Our 1958 Sunbeam with direct measurement radiant control makes perfect toast, one slice or two, first or a dozen later, automatically lowers and raises. I doubt this one will make it to 2025. The logic is well implemented, though. The "second slices quicker" function is almost certainly done indirectly by charging a capacitor than measuring discharge rate to shorten the time. I wouldn’t go so far as to make that assumption, since there are varying degrees of reasons (why) people will invest in certain products. I once read an article about a person who sold their expensive car to a total stranger , for one dollar, it was a young teenager who was looking to buy his first car, and he thought that it was either a joke, or that something was wrong with it. It turned out to be her ex-husband’s car that (she) was selling for (him). She had found out that he had been cheating with another woman, and thus got her revenge. What I am trying to interject, is that you should refrain from passing judgment on something that you may disagree with (based) solely on Upon (your) personal opinion. People spend money for things that are pertinent to their personal desires and interests as well as life styles. Think about it, haven’t you (ever) saw something, that touched you in a way that made you desire to own it even though it was out of your price range? But you couldn’t get it out of your mind, and you rationalized in your mind (how) you would incorporate it into your daily life? Well, that is (human nature) at its best, or worse.

It's funny because the Sunbeam Radiant Control toaster from the 50s could raise and lower automatically. Plus it would adjust the cooking time when it was still hot. A lot of people here say "ah I don't need a smart toaster," and in most cases, that is true. The thing about having a "smart" toaster is really the feedback; the toaster "senses" what's going on with the bread and adjusts accordingly. This is why James tested all of those slices of bread in different states of temperature--this is to test how the toaster's computer can detect the changes in temperature and then decides whether it needs more power or less power. Something like this would be good for if you have different bread preferences and you want consistent toast whether you just pulled it out of the freezer or it has been on the counter for a few hours. As for why the browning isn't even throughout the bread, I do think the bulk of the cost comes from the "smart" features and everything else is standard toaster components. In my opinion, this is why this model is *only* $100 because the engineers and manufacturer used as many off-the-shelf components as they can, and decided to put their efforts in the control unit and the overall design of the appliance.
@Specz1874 ай бұрын

8:44 Maybe excessive for toast, but based on the shape of the toasted area, that I’m guessing it’s due to the fact that heat rises and that the bread slices are probably slightly wider/smooshed on the bottom due to sitting like that in the bag, I wonder if you’d get a more even browning if the slices were placed in the slots upside down so there is less surface area to brown in the cooler areas at the bottom of the slots and the wider base of the bread, that’s now at the top of the slot where all the hot air is escaping, would get toasted by the rising hot air that’s hitting the exposed flared base of the slice.

They have those "laser guns" that measure temperature instantly from a distance. Why can't we have those sensors on cooking appliances, including toasters and ovens? Also, we could have appliances with open source modifiable software and plain color LCDs with touch screen, so we could mod (or download mods) our units to suit our needs. I'd like to be able to make my dishwasher run a little longer, for example, or dry better, or have a couple extra steps added to my laundry since I'd rather make my machine soak my clothes a few times for a couple of hours during the washing cycle if I am doing laundry while I sleep etc.

The laser is just for aiming at the object to be measured. The temperature is detected by an infrared sensor. They're neat gadgets, and inexpensive too.

@@marcse7en Thanks and true but they don't include those sensors, plus a camera for color, to do what technology is already capable of very affordably if there's will. Same with ovens and microwaves etc.

I watched this video as if my life depended on it. I’m not sure why. I don’t even eat wheat.

One thing about this impresses me and that's that all the Browning levels are usable. Most toasters half the levels are inedible. I'd eat level 7 from this toaster. I've never understood toasters that ruin bread on half the settings.

Swiping the screen seemed to be hit and miss. However, you were mostly standing behind the toaster. I'm wondering if you were in front of it with the screen facing you, would that improve the swiping?

I use my ninja foodi!!!!!! Sure, you gotta flip it, but man, I'm so freaking minimalist in my kitchen now!

Not minimalist with the "!", I see.

was surprised you didn't test it lvl 7 with a single piece of bread . Since u read the instructions saying it would brown more I thought u were foreshadowing to a test later on

When I buy a new toaster it'll be this one. Thanks for the review. 👍

For that price it better also do my taxes, otherwise I'll stick with my cheap toaster oven that I've had for the last 20 years.

I’ll take my 4 slice T-fal Advante Deluxe with reheat and bagel setting. It toasts bagels on inside and just heats the outside up and of course it toasts bread.

After toasting in my Ninja Foodie XL, I dont think I can ever go back to a "normal" toaster.

I bought a cheap $15 black and Decker toaster almost 15 years ago and it still works perfectly

For $100.00, one would think it would have 4 slots. Don’t think I’ll be wasting money on this thing, especially the way it makes the toast striped.

I think the swipe issue is that there is IR sensor to detect if someone is standing in the front or not. you can see a red light blinking. Maybe you have to stand infront of it for it to work properly or swipe your hand over the sensor maybe both
