A little physics note: If you can play the F on the top of the treble clef on a trombone, you can do it in 5 different positions. If you can squeak out the A-flat above it you can do it in all seven positions. With a tuba, you are effectively playing an octave higher on the harmonic scale and you really don't need valves any more.

When I was ~4 years into playing my range was from Bb0 to Bb3. but I’ve gotten a bigger mouthpiece (Bach 7) and experience with a bass T-Bone now so my range is from Bb-1 to Bb4 which is (I think) 5 octaves. Btw this isn’t my “playable” range just my lowest and highest. My playable is probably Bb0 to C4 but I’ve never had to go that high or low.
