I absolutely love this palette. I love how a swatch sheet fits behind the clear plastic insert on the other side - it makes for a stunning palette when you open it and can see all of the colors painted out. I also love that it's a one-sided palette (unlike the white fold out ones that hold 20 colors- you can't close this type of palette if they are wet and juicy on both sides). 18 colors is the perfect amount. I also love the round-ish wells. Very easy to fill and holds the perfect amount of paint

I have several of these palettes. They are great. I have one for each of several painting classes I've taken. I've also given a couple of them as gifts to friends who have wanted to paint with me, with enough paint in the wells to last them a while.

I like that its big. It has the room to mix and 18 wells that you don't have to replenish soon,neither will fall short of paint when you travel or go out to paint! Problem us,I cant find them where I live and I cant use amazon.

I have one of these that I bought a few years ago and never used it. Can you use this for oils or acrylics?
@KrisDeBruineStudio
@KrisDeBruineStudio Жыл бұрын
Hi. I don't paint in oil or acrylic. However, I have never seen my oil/acrylic painter friends using this kind of palette. I don't think there is really enough room for the amount of acrylic paints you typically use. Also, most oil painters mix on glass instead of plastic. But, you could give it a try. Sorry. This is not my area of expertise.

Thank you for another fine video. I did purchase the Palette. Did you print the paint layout directly from your printer, or did you do it by hand? Also I am aware it is airtight when closed and will prevent leakage to the outside. I am curious about what happens inside. There is a sizeable airspace between the top of the wells and the inside wall of the lid. I was wondering if you did anything to help keep the contents in the wells and not spill around inside, such as some sort of material or perhaps turning the clear tray in the lid upside down and then that should creat more of seal on the wells. Thank you

Hi! Thanks for watching. I hope you like the palette. I use it all the time, especially when I paint outside of my studio. As for the paint swatches, I drew the lines on watercolor paper with waterproof black ink (using a ruler). I prefer to use watercolor paper as it gives a better reproduction of what the paint will look like in my paintings. I have never experienced any big spillage of the paint inside the palette when in transport. However, I do remove any excess water with paper towel, before I close the palette. I have not altered the design of the palette at all. I find it works great just as it is....and I paint plein air with it...almost weekly. It is a great, affordable, well-designed palette in my opinion.

Question: Let’s say you just finished some painting and need to pack the palette and go to another location. If there is any fluid in the wells will the lid keep that fluid from transferring to the other wells if the palette is stored on edge?
@KrisDeBruineStudio
@KrisDeBruineStudio 6 ай бұрын
Hi. Great question. I bring this palette out painting "plein air" all the time. I do not have a problem with paint moving outside of its own well. Of course, I usually lift excess pooling water out of the wells (with my brush) before hand, and then it dry for a few minutes. Then all is well. Oh....and I make sure it is laying flat in my car as I drive to the next locale. No problems.

I don't see "Azo Yellow" in the Mission Gold swatches online or in that 24 color set. Does it go by another name or something?

Hi! Great question. The Azo Yellow is not part of the Mijello set of paints, but is an M. Graham color. You can purchase it here: amzn.to/4buvlmg

Very helpful review of the palette as well as these beginner paints. How do you prep your mixing tray so that the paint doesn't bead up?
@KrisDeBruineStudio
@KrisDeBruineStudio 4 жыл бұрын
I use a cleaner that has a very slight abrasive to it. "Bar Tender's Friend" or a "Magic Eraser" sponge. Some people even use a little toothpaste. :-)

Hello! First this was an absolutely wonderful review :D! But i had a question: Iv heard someone one saying that the clear plastic tray acts like a porcelain pallete as in it doesn't bead up much, I was wondering if it's true cause I didn't see any other reviewers mention it?
@KrisDeBruineStudio
@KrisDeBruineStudio 4 жыл бұрын
Hello Arvind. I have both a porcelain palette and this plastic one. A Porcelain palette is definitely better quality, in my opinion. However, they are also more expensive. The plastic palettes bead up less than the metal palettes, but more than the porcelain. I also made this video giving my reasons why porcelain palettes are so good - kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4CxhpyPpd6eerc Enjoy!

Thanks for replying so early! Also I checked out the video and you almost convinced me to get a porcelain palette but I'm probably gonna end up breaking a porcelain pallette cause I'm so clumsy ಥ‿ಥ Again, thanks for replying so early and you just got yourself a new sub! Did you had to prepare the pallet with any abrasive/detergent to avoid the beading or it didn't bead at all or the palette stopped beading with use? Thanks for sharing the video
@KrisDeBruineStudio
@KrisDeBruineStudio 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Frederico. I didn't prepare the mixing areas at all. As you can see in the video, the paint beads up a little bit on the clear plastic surface (in the lid area), but it doesn't really bead up much at all, in the white mixing areas in the middle of the palette. I have been very happy with this palette. In fact, I now own two of them. They work great.

@@KrisDeBruineStudio I noticed the similar Mijello model to this,not only has 2 more wells for paint,bit also it has a thumb rest on their end and an oval cut out on that corner,to let your thumb hold the pallete!! It looks like the same size but with better looks and functions! Thanks for the idea! I'll speak to them this time,to keep one for me no matter what! Thanks again!

Hi. Thanks for watching. I filled this palette with the Mijello Mission Gold 24 color set. You can learn more about it here -- amzn.to/3cKazB9 However, since the palette only holds 18 colors, I left some out. The colors I included are: Lemon Yellow, Perm Yellow Deep, Yellow Orange, Perm. Red, Perm. Rose, Rose Madder, Perm. Violet, Cerulean Blue, Cobalt Blue, Peacock Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Indigo, Viridian, Hookers Green, Sap Green, Yellow Ochre, Raw Sienna and Burnt Sienna. Enjoy!!

Does the watercolor turns intos beads
@KrisDeBruineStudio
@KrisDeBruineStudio 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not totally sure I understand your question. I'll do my best to answer. The paint in the wells dries nicely after a short while - no beading there. However, when you mix the paint with water in the mixing areas it does tend to bead up quite a bit, because it is a plastic mixing area. This is one of the primary reasons I love to use a porcelain palette. I have other videos on my channel about using porcelain palettes. However porcelain is very heavy and not appropriate for travelling. I use this plastic palette when I travel away from my studio. So yes....it does bead in the mixing area. Here is my porcelain palette, which does not bead - kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4CxhpyPpd6eerc

There's something about Mission Gold paints to me. They always look SO incredibly vibrant- not only on the paper swatched out but in the paint wells themselves. Usually paints in the wells have such a deep masstone that you can't tell the vibrancy until swatched out; but these look so juicy and bright in the wells. All of the colors look so clean and bright too. Mission Gold is super underrated in my opinion. I personally haven't tried the brand yet but I've known about them for years and researched them a lot. In my opinion I don't think you could find a higher quality brand for such an affordable price. Let me know if you agree? I may get that set

Hi. I agree with you. The paints are very vibrant and they are affordable. I have moved to using Daniel Smith exclusively since making this video. But I can still recommend the brand and many other watercolor artists do as well. Enjoy!
