I feel the same as you Tez - I thought the start to his year was very promising and it looked like he was ready to take the next step, but unfortunately fell away. Another pre-season under his belt can only make him better - I would like to see him get a 1 year deal and prove that he belongs. I also think you are on the money with the Kennedy situation - it was quite clear that the club saw enough in Lord's first 2 games that they considered Kennedy expendable. I find it fascinating that we only got to see Lord because of our injury crisis.... Same deal with Moir.... It seems that this was a real sliding doors moment for the club, Kennedy, Owies and perhaps even Martin. Blue skies ahead. 👍

To be fair, this is the type of situation we have been begging to find ourselves in Some tough, tough calls with Kennedy and Owies moving on this yr and somebody like Carrol who’s got potential being on the outter Carrol might just be one of the so called ‘late bloomers’ compared to others It’s definitely a consistency + confidence thing with Carrol I reckon After his good first month it was all playing sub and dealing with injuries As exciting as it was to watch Lord in his few games this yr it’s way too early to cast Carrol out and say that Lord is the man to go with instead If we can get our list healthy in season it creates huge competition for spots and some more tough calls at the end of each season which is all a sign of a very healthy list demographic It’d be a real shame to of invested four years into Carrol only for him too be moved on or be an outcast in the team without him IMO getting a fair shake of the sauce bottle

I like the way Cooper plays more than Jack C. He’s clean and hard at the ball and player. If Jack does stay what will his role be? Definitely not the utility that Kennedy was. That’s why we will miss Matt so much. Could they rookie Jack Carroll?

Average C- at best. 4 yrs in system, hasn't happened. Lord in less than 3 months has already outstripped Carroll. Clock is ticking on Binns too. Cerra needs to find consistency in health or could also be shown the door.

What binns gotta do though. Around 30+ in vfl and goals. Took most of the club out to give him a go and he was getting from memory around 17+ a goal in his few games he played. He needs a consistent run I reckon

@@clintonlee7837 see I would say the same thing but he was kicking goals too. Even if 20 of his 40 were junk possession kicking a couple on top of that certainly counts for something. I do see your point too. I just think he hasn’t really had much chance to prove himself at afl level.

G'day Tez, seems to be going on and on with Jack, I understand the decision doesn't have to be taken yet, still surely they know if he's a part of our future, maybe they are pushing him out but nobodies taking the option. I only hope carlton are keeping him in the loop. Unfortunately for jack lord kooks the real thing where Jack has been treading water most of the year, has jacks moment gone, this isn't a business you can afford to stand still. I'm leaning towards us having made the decision but can't find someone to do the deal as yet. All about game time mate and there's some they want to give more to this year including we hope the ready made mid we get at three. This year Jacks a bit like kennedy, hasn't anchored a perminant spot on the ground, a hole filler and that's not good when others are roaring up your arse taking spots. I like the kid Tez, think he has talent but after, what, four years I wonder has he enough for a grand final winning side. Great question mate, like you somewhat confused still, but not enough to think he'll stay with us in the end. Go Tez Go Blues

Carlton Blues Season 2024: More Questions Than Answers. Seems like there's been a lot of inner turmoil as to what the team's identity is and what they want it to be. Only a fringe player at the moment, to be sure, but more of this seemingly endless deliberation. I guess it's not so unusual as other Clubs are still de-listing guys, but so much of it now is around the midfield which is the heart of the identity. Or was.

They obviously have seen something in Cooper Lord that they like and see him as an upgrade on Jack Carroll. I’d like to give Jack one more year to work on cementing a spot now that Chugga is gone, and if he doesn’t, I wouldn’t begrudge him leaving at the end of next year

If you really take notice of Pommy/ Dan we have approx 18 approx. players out of contracts next year. We are clearing out the deadwood before we get into Cap issues. Basically, we are losing depth and putting all of our faith into the young players so we can pay the top-end players.
@johnflynn5562 ай бұрын
If we have a list spot, keep him. He seems to be only a depth player at the moment, and, unfortunately, he seems to have slide down the pecking order. It probably does not hurt the team if he gets delisted. If he is, hopefully he gets a life line from Eagles as a DFA. Unfortunately, we need to take a hard line if we are serious about winning a flag.

I’m glad you brought this up Terry. I’m probably going to lose more fans here, but if Carrol gets shown the door, then it really puts into question Cripps’ credibility. I could be overacting but if the skipper pumps up Carrol on live TV and then is later gets shown the door then one must surely be asking the question of does our captain know his shit?…a potential premiership captain surely must not be backing in players that get given the chop at seasons end…doesn’t say much about standards at the club!

He does not have the thirst or hunger that an up and coming footballer requires to earn his spot. He got given many opportunities but I can’t remember one time where he had multiple desperation acts back to back to back. Always waiting for the easier ball and never went when he had to go except for one time in his last or second last game. He got more games than he should have because Crippa had a soft spot for him being a WA boy.

The team line-up will look quite different in 2025. No Martin, Owies, Kennedy, Marchbank, Cunningham and new talent coming into the list. We need to give young talent a taste at senior level during a season. The selectors hands were forced to play Binns, Lord and Moir in the last two games due to injuries. The performances against the eagles and the Saints lifted. Rest or manage players in 2025 against certain opponents and bring in 1 or 2 young players. Dont be afraid of taking a risk with young players - they wont let you down with effort and enthusiasm. They just need exposure at senior level and experience. (just one example in 2024 was bringing Cottrell back into the team when he was clearly not ready. It didnt work out for Cotters and the team. That’s the time to debut a youngster who has shown some form in the reserves. Opposition clubs would often debut players against the Blues - probably because they knew we wouldnt test them physically or sledge them mentally.)
