Thank you so much, I’ve really enjoyed your review on this Thrustmaster TS-XW and as a matter of fact I purchased the exact same package last week after I watched your review. I got to say I’m really enjoying this Wheel even now in 2022 and I’m really glad that I didn’t spend huge amount of money for some entry level direct-drive wheels which also I have to wait a lifetime to get them from their companies! Imo this TS-XW is more than enough for someone or anyone who wants to be really competitive in any Sim-Racing title. The only downside for me is that it could’ve come with a better pedals but you always get what you pay for. There is of course good pedals in Thrustmaster ecosystem if you want. Overall TS-XW /PC is still a great wheel (even in 2022) as a high end middle class racing wheel.

I got my TS-PC for a steal on Black Friday 2017 from B&H Photo for $350!, and use it almost every day. Still working strong and still feels great. Never fades. It is pretty much plug-n-play requiring very little tweaking from one sim to another. Would (and have) recommend to anyone looking for an affordable, reliable wheel for a great value. I did have a brief scare a few months back when I thought the power supply had died. The wheel was dead with no lights and not showing up in the Control Panel. I went online and saw that others had their power supply die and could not get a replacement. That was confirmed when I tried looking for a replacement and had no luck. I submitted a tech support request to TM. Due to COVID, it took several days to get a reply, but it turns out all I needed was to do a manual firmware update. I was having an issue with a USB 3.0 extension I was using that I think triggered the failure. The firmware update was pretty simple and did the trick! Before I got the TS-PC, I had been using Thrustmaster TMX. I actually ordered a Fanatec CSL Elite to upgrade that year, but it came with a faulty sensor that causes the center to constantly drift. I wasn't happy with the way it felt compared to the TMX I was used to, so I returned it for refund and ordered the TS-PC instead. The TS-PC FFB felt just like the TMX, just stronger and no fade (which I did notice with the TMX). So it truly was an upgrade for me. I may eventually jump to a CS 2.5, but I'm in no hurry.

i had a TGT before i had a CSW 2.5 and now i have a DD1, my only real problem with the TGT was it always felt notchy to me, even more notchy than the T300 which i had before the TGT, moving the wheel slowly you can count the teeth in the belt and that just took all the immersion of reality out of it for me since there's not a car on the road that you can turn the wheel slowly and feel steps. this notchiness feeling was consistent with every lower end wheel though, the g29 is very notchy with big steps and a central dead zone, the t300 was really as smooth as it got before the CSW 2.5 but the 2.5 was the first wheelbase i got that genuinely felt like reality... so many people say ''but my TGT feels smooth its not notchy at all but it just is, the 2.5 isnt notchy because it uses serpentine belts, any toothed belt like those thrustmaster use you will feel the teeth, typically when you turn it slowly but turning fast is what then causes the whir noise as it steps between the teeth quickly. anyway... that was my only issue with the TGT, double the price of a T300 and it was slightly rougher to turn, i purchased my 5 year old a t150 (non pro) for xmas and that is not so much notchy but terribly grainy, like it was left at the bottom of the sea and got full of sand, but FFB at that price and the kids smiling so its good value to me. the real problem with thrustmaster wheelbases though is we don't have more of them, the reason the tsxw is still good to use in 2021 is because we are in the same situation as we were in last year and the year before, we had the tsxw then and its still all we have now from thrustmaster. it cant be an any worse option if there's no other choice available. the G29 is still the best entry level FFB wheel because.... there are no new entry level FFB wheels, how can it ever stop being the best entry if there are no other options, the thrustmaster options are just the same, the tsxw and tspc and TGT are still the best thrustmaster wheelbases because there are no other options unless you pick a different brand or pay more money. the tsxw is still a good thrustmaster option in 2021 and unless they design something new it will probably be the same story next year.

Came from a g920. This is a huge upgrade. I was in doubt of getting the csl elite. But with some searching I learned there is not much difference between csl and ts-xw. Finaly chose the ts-xw because of shorter delivery time. It was no dissapointment.
@bartonez1233 жыл бұрын
I agree it's a pretty good wheel base. I had my first one a while back (to replace a broken CSL Elite), it was flawless. I did then "retire it" (with the intention of later selling it) and go to a Fanatec Clubsport for a bit, and I agree with your assesment that the differences aren't huge (the clubsport was smoother - the TS-PC can be "notchy" - but the TS-PC for me personally had a more consistent feel in long sweeping corners and better feel around centre). I had two rims from Fanatec (the formula and BMW, which were most definetly nicer than the Thrustmaster ones) but the cost of their rims turned me off after a while, as did the reliability (everything Fanatec I own has broken at some point, most more than once). Ultimately I ended up selling the Fanatec and going back to the TS-PC. If I did more oval racing I'd have kept the Fanatec for its smoothness, but the TS-PC seemed to match it everywhere else and the rims are just so much cheaper, giving me more versality for my money. It has a good balance between performance, cost and upgradability that suits my needs.

That's the reason I chose the TSXW over fanatec clubsport, so I can buy a new rim on any payday without it making me broke , and now 6 rims on, F1 , open wheel, sparco Rim, 599 ferrari rim, (custom acelith design McLaren rim and DTM rims), I'm a happy camper and this suits all needs , unless your a pro driver direct drive is not needed...ever,

In reality I’m sure there are far more people who have never had any issues than people who have. But most of the time you only hear from the people who have had issues so it unfairly gives TM a bad reputation. There are adapters available (both plastic and metal options) that will allow you to mount any steering wheel of your choice that has a standard 70mm bolt pattern (ie. sparco, omp) directly to the TM quick release system. I have 2 that i got off ebay some time ago. You will however have to find a separate solution for shifting like a h pattern or sequential since you would loose that functionality on the wheel.

I have never owned a Thrustmaster wheel and have had a Fanatec CSR for the past 10 years. Apart from table clamps that fail on some of their cheaper models, I have only heard good things about Thrustmaster. I still use a TX Dan, with the latest firmware I have never had any issues with it, I think some people run them into clipping which overheats them. I honestly believe that the TX / T300 is the sweet spot for value v performance on belt drives. You can pick them up with a wheel for under £300 these days and that is amazing value. Like you said, the plug and play is great and they just work!... If I didn’t have a TX I would consider the TSXW but I don’t think it’s an upgrade worth another £300-£400. I think you are being a bit harsh on T300 / TX to be honest, they are actually very good wheels in my opinion. My brother has a Fanatec CSW and yes it’s good, a bit smoother but by no means streets ahead of Thrustmaster. There’s a lot of equipment snobbery out there these days. I used a G27 for over 10 years and had great fun along the way, but the jump from that to a TX is very noticeable, beyond that it’s serious diminishing returns.

Thanks for this update. I'm working on a rally setup and am trying to decide between a TS-XW base with the Sparco R383 wheel or the Fanatec CSL Elite with the WRC wheel. I'm wondering, how strong is the plastic wheel-base connection in the TS setup? How much flex is there? Also, when the TS wheel is turned on, is the cogging still noticeable when moving the wheel slowly when driving?
@bartonez1233 жыл бұрын
The TS cogging is noticeable (the CSL will be smoother), though only really noticeable when not actually racing or if you do oval racing (I doubt in a rally setup it'd be noticeable in game). I've owned a CSL in the past, I think that the TS is a nicer wheel base overall (despite the notching, I like the FFB delivery and feel around centre - I actually think it's closer to the Clubsport than the CSL in performance), but the Fanatec rims are generally nicer than the Thrustmaster ones (though I haven't used either of these rims so I can't make a comparision). What prices can you get either at? And how much would you be willing to spend for wheel rim upgrades in the future?

@@bartonez123 They are very similar in price in Canada after shipping, taxes, etc. As for rims in the future, I prefer fully round wheels so this would be my only rim. Though, the Fanatec R330 rim is very nice but also comes at a very high price.

As well, I've heard that rapid wheel movements can throw it off too. I want to use it for rally so rapid movements will happen all the time.

Hey man, just wanted to say thank you for a very awesome and informative video. I wondered if you think it will be wise to snag one of these used in very good condition for $500.? Also will I need to find the pedals to be able to race. I just bought a g29 but I'm going to take that back and I was looking into buying a t300 but was afraid because I saw that it has so many issues with reliability and then I came across this video. What do you think about that price?

Would you say a TX servo base + the T-LCM pedals is a better investment for the money from an overall sim racing experience POV over the TS-XW with T3PA pedals?
@DanDiMaggio3 жыл бұрын
That's kind of a tough one. If you're after speed, consistency and the quickest lap times possible, then the TX servo with the T-LCM's would be the route I would go as you won't get any speed or consistency advantages with one wheelbase or the other. The pedals however are a different story. The Load cell in the T-LCM will definitely help you be far more consistent then the T3PAs which should = more speed. But If your main objective is to have more "realism" in the feeling of driving a car (for fun per say) then I believe the additional strength & fidelity of the TS-XW would be the way to go. It's really a tough one though and would be totally a personal preference depending on your needs/wants etc. I hope that makes sense. I know i didn't really answer your question but honestly it would be a personal choice on that one. Hope that helps a little lol!

@@DanDiMaggio Haha no I appreciate the insight - it’s hard to answer anyone’s questions regardless of the topic as a majority of everything is preference. I’m going to be hooking the servo base and pedals up to an Xbox to play Dirt 4 and WRC 8, mostly. Some FH4 but that’s leaning pretty hard into arcade physics for a wheel. Since the TS-XW servo base by itself is $400 vs $230ish for the TX, a 74% price jump, would you say the TS-XW’s experience is ~74% or more better than the TX? That’s usually how I look at things once you cross a baseline (belt driven in this case) I think the TX meets without having access to drive before buying.

Great and honest review video! I would like to ask if the TS-PC or the TGTII are good bases to play different games? Meaning not only GT7 or sports, I play a lot of F1 AC on ps4 and I’m wondering how good or how better it is in comparison to the T300. Which I think is really inconsistent on some games in terms of FFB after 5 laps or more Thank you so much 🙏🏼
@DanDiMaggio9 ай бұрын
The TS-PC & TGT are still great wheelbases as far as performance. Still pretty much the best of the best when it comes to belt driven wheelbases. My only issue with them now is the price point hasn't come down to reflect the current market of available sim racing gear. This video was from three years ago and a lot has changed since. The TGT II is still $800 and for that money you can get a superior direct drive setup. For example the Fanatec Gran Turismo DD Pro is currently 100 less. And for the same price you can get it with the 8nm power supply and it will be even stronger. The TS-PC and TGT are still great but I genuinely can't recommend buying one new at this point because of the price discrepancy. I hope that makes sense. As far as your T300 being inconsistent after around 5 laps, honestly that sounds like it's overheating. Can you still hear the fan turning on occasionally? If the fan doesn't turn on the pulley system will overheat and it will certainly reduce the power output. If you can find a used TGTII in good condition for a reasonable price that might be a great option.

Your review on the Accuforce which was full of praise for it's additional overall feel and fidelity , as well as being able to feel the rear of the car and catch slides , helped me pull the trigger and by one . To hear you recommend a Thrustmaster TS-PC racer at $699 over an Accuforce Direct drive at $999 is quite shocking. I will agree there is more set up time involved with the Accuforce but there is plenty of help available on the SimXperience forums. Now that I have owned an Accuforce DD wheel for some time I have had the chance to use a close friends rig that uses a TS-PC racer and I can tell you there is so much detail being left on the table it's crazy. It still has warranty and generally looks quite good on the photos. I currently have the G920 and really want to upgrade, but kinda dont see myself spending 700€ for the CSL DD 8nm with the McLaren wheel or wait like half a year for the 5nm to be available again.
@DanDiMaggio2 жыл бұрын
Honestly the PC & XW are going to perform exactly the same. It comes down to 2 differences: TS-PC is only compatible with PC and the XW works on XB. The other is simply the color of them. I actually prefer the muted gray color of the TS-PC over the red on the XW but both have great performance for the money. As for a used option, try and find out why they are selling it if possible have them prove it is working perfectly before you send any money. There are known faults for these but they are not as common as on TM's lower tear ffb wheels which seem to be plagued with issues. Personally I would still not hesitate to buy another one but be careful when purchasing used. As for the upgrade, it will be a significant upgrade from your current G920. Roughly 3 times as strong, smoother and quieter as well. None of the on center rattle you get from the G series wheels. Hope that helps! Good luck!

@DanDiMaggio2 жыл бұрын
A wheelstand or full rig would be the best choice because it does have enough power to shake a desk if it's not sturdy enough. That being said you can certainly mount it to a desk and it comes with a desk clamp in the box. Just keep in mind the sturdier your mounting option is, the more ffb strength you will feel from the wheelbase through your hands as some of the ffb will be lost through the vibration of a desk.

@DanDiMaggio2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I totally get it. At this point I've been fortunate enough to have had my hands on many different wheel bases from various manufacturers and this is kind of my thoughts on the situation now. As far as belt or gear driven wheels, Thrustmaster and Fanatec are honestly very similar in forms of long term reliability. It's seems to be hit or miss with both. Sometimes you get lucky and get a base that never has any issues and sometimes you end up with a lemon. The good thing is, both have a decent warranty and return policy aside from the headache of having to deal with waiting. Here's the kicker though. If your main concern is reliability I'd suggest looking away from both of them. The end all be all wheel to go with is a Logitech when it comes to reliability. They have very few cases of problems aging way back to when the G25 was their star wheelbase. It's a case of "if it isn't broke don't fix it" which is why even the latest G923 is basically the same thing with new skin. They are simply the best by a long shot when it comes to reliability. The downside is the lack of overall ffb. So you kind of have to choose the sacrifice you're willing to put up with. Limited overall ffb or roll the dice and hope you end up with a TM or Fana wheel that works properly. That being said direct drives are changing that significantly. They are much more reliable for the most part do to the simple fact they have less parts. Until now the price has really hindered most people from jumping on that band wagon but Fanatec has really changed this with the release of the CSL DD Pro. I haven't used one myself (yet) but it has overwhelmingly positive reviews so far and being a direct drive reliability shouldn't be an issue. You can get the Gran Turismo Pro DD with 2 piece pedals included for 700 bucks. That's a game changer! And if you're willing to pay 50 more you can get it right now. Hell I think right now even the TS-PC/XW's are still going for 5-600 without pedals if you can even find any. So that's my take on it today. I have really high hopes that DD will continue to be more attainable for the regular consumer over the next few years. Fingers crossed!

Today I can get a moza 5 bundle for £498 and a TS-XW for over £500. Belt drive is just not worth it now. DD is made at the same price point. So it's not even like you can argue for it for people who don't want to spend as much. The DD is much better constructed, the QR for the wheel significantly better. Especially now you get DD in UK online retailers like overclockers. I can see the reluctance to send cash to Fanatec, especially after Brexit and undoubtedly that put some people off getting DD, especially the thought if the product fails. There's little or no point not getting DD unless you want the budget low end of FF wheels like a gear based one. The T300 at £350 might still be worth it, but I think most people would be better to stretch that budget now. I looked at these TS-PC and DD as covid started and it seemed a real pain to get DD compared with just going to a big online retailer and the cost at that point seemed higher. But the pandemic also killed the stocks of all wheels so I just forgot about it and carried on using the Driving force GT. Now I'm looking against I can't see why anyone would pay £500+ for this wheel given the market.

Just a detail... If using console, 5/7 nm on dd, is less than 5/7 nm on belt-driven flywheel. The dd's ffb is weakened on console....on pc you won`t have these problems. So no, this category of steering wheel still has its place.

The price currently is overpriced. Sparco rims are the best in the TM ecosystem. Would like a comparison between the csw 2.5 vs ts
@jinx200013 жыл бұрын
I've used both there would be no comparison really, the csw 2.5 is better in every way, much smoother to turn, uses serpentine belts instead of notchy teeth, all metal construction, quick release is relatively quick instead of relatively slow and you don't need to screw a puncture hold in your wheel hub to secure it. fanatec also offers a much more in depth software solution aswell as the ability to play with multiple feedback settings while in game using the on wheel rim display and buttons. the 2.5 is wayyy out ahead of anything thrustmaster, I've owned and used the T300, TGT, CSW 2.5 and a DD1 in the last year.
@bartonez1233 жыл бұрын
I've owned both. The Clubsport was smoother but some margin (the TS-PC is "notchy") but I found in practice the overall differences weren't big. The Thrustmaster had a better feel in long corners when load needed to be consistent, and a much better feel around centre. The strength was similar. The rims are nicer in the Fanatec ecosystem but twice the price where I live. And then I had the Fanatec reliability problems - the base had serious belt slip (to their credit, Fanatec did replace after 1 unsuccessful repair), the new unit then had USB issues (repaired again). The BMW rim I had was fine, the Formula rim had faulty buttons (I just sold it faulty). Ultimately I sold it and went back to my TS-PC (using Fanatec pedals). When I got the TS-PC, it cost two thirds the price, came very close in performance, and the cheaper rims meant I could get more versatility for the price. It's not as flashy aesthetically, but it's well made and does a very nice job. Even if they were the same price, I'd probably go the Thrustmaster - or just save up and get a direct drive.

@@jopereirapt both on and off fanatec is perfectly smooth, no steps, nothing, one way or another with thrustmaster wheels you can feel the steps, ive had 2 different thrustmaster wheel bases now and the TGT (essentially the same as tspc/xw) was less smooth than the t300, its almost certainly the belt because thats the largest difference between the fanatec gear and thrustmaster is the belt, its a completely different belt design, the motors are not large enough for you to feel any steps between magnets, that would be dampened out by the belt mechanism. I use a DD1 direct drive and it uses huge magnets, I can move my wheel slowly on the DD and feel the steps between the magnets, the csw 2.5 is even slightly smoother than my direct drive I think, the thrustmaster wheelbase are nowhere near as smooth, there should be zero stepping when moving the wheel slowly, thats how a car is in reality.

But please don’t send me the link to that 10nm simagic thing if that’s what you’re talking about 😂

I will never buy a thrustmaster again. I had my doubts after seeing a lot of videos and post about things going wrong with either the wheel or pedals, and how long it takes to send something back to Thrustmaster. Well I wished I'd listen to my gut because within a 2 or 3 weeks the wheel started to make a funny sound and feel strange. Also from week 1 the pedals were squeaking. There no visible hinge, unless you unscrew the pedal set which will no doubt void the warranty. Within 2 months of use, the accelerator pedal made a clicking sound or a crack and now it wobbles. It also revs by itself and doesn't stay at full throttle. I emailed thrustmater to find out if I could get a replacement and how it would take. So far all they asked me was for my invoice number. That was 5 days ago. I have been able to play any sim racing for weeks now aswel as losing views. Why do companies behave like this and think we will still buy their product. I'm In doubts a out getting a PS5 after they lied to me about a issue with the ps4.✌🏼

@VR Driver that's my point. I got a faulty set and I had a bad feeling this would happen, due to the faults I've seen and heard from others. The worst thing is how awkward and long it takes to get the matter resolved. When ps2 1st came out both my mates and my disc tray for stuck. PlayStation sent out a courier to collect it and drop off a replacement. With my G29 I was able to take it back to the shop (Currys) and twice they replaced it on the spot. I asked Box.uk if they could do the same but they want to check if it's broken 1st which they said can take upto 7 days. Why would I be sendi g it back and asking for a replacement if it wasn't broken. If i was trying to pull some sort of scam some how, then they have all my details. I don't understand the problem. If i was asking for a refund I could understand. I've actually seen a video, where Thrustmaster told a guy the reason his wheel broke is because he has it on a rig😀. Thrustmater told him he should have it clamped to a desk and were refusing to refund him. So now tbh Thrustmaster and Box.uk have lost my custom. These companies are so short sighted these days. Can't wait to get a Fanatec.✌🏼
