A good rough estimate is accomodation times 4 as your overall daily budget. So 1/4 accomodation, 1/4 entry fees, 1/4 food, 1/4 transport. (This works better for long time travels than it does for a weekend getaway)

When you are abroad in third / second world countries, how do you stay connected to the internet? Do you find that stable internet is easy enough to find in order to upload videos (i.e. when you were in Asia), or do you use a wireless hotspot service for wifi?

The internet is normally very fast in Asia and literally every bar and cafe has free wifi. I think Asia is better connected than the western world :)

So if I think I need 10 grand to travel for a year. I should actually take 20 grand? Thats realistic for me at all.

Where are you going for a year? For example 30 dollars a day for 365 days is 11 thousand dollars. If your going to be doing a working holiday visa you wont need double if not the I would take more than 11 thousand as 30 dollars a day is not that much at all.
