Christian Richards Mark of the Wolves on PS4 features online multiplayer, I don't know why SNK cut that off on Switch while they could have done it easily. Price really isn't the reason behind the lack of online in SNK games. Also if my memory is right, SF3.3 online edition was sold for 25$ on PS3, so if USF2 is about 25-30$ i would find it to be reasonable, but 40$ is just absurd.

In an alternate universe, Ultra Street Fighter 2 would be a $40-dollar game with 3 visual options: Classic 16-bit, HD UDON Sprites, and 3D Models (MT Framework or Unreal Engine 4 assets). The new 3D Models would have made this a worthwhile $40 purchase, and there wouldn’t be any contention.

I personally feel it is worth the higher price tag. I feel that I'm going to get my moneys worth because street fighter is the perfect game to do a quick round in on the switch with friends. If I'm waiting for a class to start, I'd Happily play this game for a bit with friends, rather than risk a long Mario kart race or bomberman game. I feel this is the game my switch collection really needed right now, as most of my friends have a switch. I have casual games for having fun with friends, but I didn't really have something I could competitively get into with them. Plus I need not worry if one of my friends does not have the game or console. A problem I faced quite a bit with the 3ds version of street fighter, along with other games. while I agree the price tag is steep, for me at least, Its going to be worth it.

Capcom needs to fire their product managers. Between the giant middle finger to customers that was SFV and now this over-priced, repackaged 9 year old game (that cost $15 back in 2008 when it was called HD Remix), Capcom has lost all good faith from consumers. This is garbage. The UDON art makes the game look like it came from Newgrounds and the "Way of the Hado" should have never left the white board.

The only realistic way for them to justify this price (since people already seemed to pre-order it) is to 1. Reduce the price of the digital version by $10 and 2. Announce that they will be adding additional content throughout the summer (with at least one by next week), to include an improved buddy battle 2 v1 mode, where you can actually do 2 v 2 with 4 players and against the entire roster of characters in their respective stages. Another thing they could add, is a demo for an upcoming port of a street fighter 4 complete (with new buddy battle 2v2 mode) and maybe even the SF 2 animated movie with Japanese language and enlglish subtitles. Until I see some sort of announcement for these features, I have decided not to even touch this game.

60 bucks later and eh, yeah it sure plays like SSF2, but it's all so ugly. They couldn't even scale the sprites correctly in either HD or classic mode... shimmering uneven pixels and annoying, oversized borders in classic mode, and strips of uneven pixels absolutely cover the HD sprites making them hideous and indistinct. The backgrounds are terrible, with screwed up perspectives, lacking animations that even HD Remix had and most objects have aliased edges, making everything look like cutouts, it's embarrassingly sloppy. The ending art too is mostly in blurry low res, except for the new charactewrs for some reason, the HD HUD in classic mode is distracting... every aspect of the presentation lacks a sense of cohesion, it feels duct taped together and half finished. Screw this game, I'm going back to using MAME, where I can play the original version, properly respected. A Wii caliber upgrade of Monster Hunter XX isn't going to cut it either Capcom... this system has good momentum, the least you could do is actually TRY to put some time and effort in before you inevitably cry about not selling 10 million copies of everything.

Sad truth to this is 40$ is actually low for Capcom. The prices they come up with for costumes in other Street Fighter games are way higher than that. I remember back when Super Street Fighter IV had a load of costume downloads and just 2 bundles came to over £40! And for reference, the game itself was only £25 so I guess in the eyes of Capcom, costumes are worth more than actual content and gameplay. Street Fighter V is abit better in this regard as many of the costumes are purchasable with fight money which is an in-game currency but even then, it's only abit better. And not even all the costumes can be bought this way, some them you have to pay real money for. So yeah, Ultra Street Fighter 2? No, not worth the cash, go put the money towards something else like Tekken 7 or heck, I'd even say ARMS and that's coming from someone that doesn't even care for ARMS.

True. The $40 seems excessive but the great thing is one can take the game with you and play with your friends. I suspect the Switch will be more of a retro gaming console for 3rd party games (i.e. Sega games). If I could get remastered versions of SNES and Genesis titles then I would buy the Switch. Since Splatoon and Mario kart I've no interest in and lately a lot of modern 3rd party developers reject the notion of gaming to the Switch (Destiny 2 being the latest one).

Nintendo has definitely devalued this game by overpricing it for sure imo. its a great game and the updated graphics look absolutely fantastic.... but instead of that being the main focus here, we're here dissecting the modes trying to figure out how Nintendo are justifying its price. And unfortunately it just isn't worth it for that amount. They should be charging the same price as Sonic Mania, at least with that game you're getting an entirely new experience AND its half the price of this SF game. I had bought this second hand about a year ago. And you’re right, it’s a lot for an old game. I e always loved SF2 since Special Champion Edition on Genesis. My draw to this version was that it is the “definitive version” with that switch between old and new visuals and sound. That Hado mode is just stupid. Tried it once, never again. It’s for fans, simple, and they’ll buy it up. But I’ll admit it, that price was too steep

I mean, it IS a full remake. This video seems to. . . not really talk about that fact all that much. In fact, the only reference to it (I think) is that you can turn it off! Like, really Alex? If they were just releasing it as - essentially - a virtual console release with those extra features, I would be in total agreement. However, this is a REALLY extensive visual remake. You know, between this, Sonic Mania, and indie games like OwlBoy it's really nice to see that 16-Bit Plus visual style (which has been coined "Hi-Bit") getting more and more popular. I love what can be done now with modern 2D games. There are few games out there where the characters look like they were ripped straight out of the concept art; this is one of them. Is $40 pushing it? Yeah, sure - but so is every AAA remake (looking at you Playstation - porting PS3 games over to PS4 and charging $60 for them, when you should've just had backwards compatibility). As is, I probably won't get it - as I'm not a Street Fighter fan - but for a series fan, this seems like an obvious purchase, even if $30 would probably be more appropriate.
@DoctorFalchion7 жыл бұрын
+RobJuanDeLaNooch SFV visuals? Why would I want that?! Just because it's not 3D doesn't mean it's not a remake (seriously, do people not realize that a lot of work goes into 2D graphics too, and that these look amazing?). The visuals, so far as I can tell, have been done from the ground up. That is not a port at all. Is Pokemon HeartGold a port of the original Pokemon Gold? No, of course not. Furthermore, since when does a REMAKE have to have actual new characters or new stages? Does Last of Us PS4 have new content? How about Elder Scrolls Remastered? Heck, even other true remakes - like DuckTales Remastered - don't add much new content. You are, essentially, asking for SFVI. This is not SFVI. This is not an expansion for SFV. This is a REMAKE of SFII and a damn good one at that. Yes, it's nostalgia pandering - that's what a good remake should be. An old game brought up to newer standards and hardware, with new visuals and some bonus stuff to celebrate its legacy.
@nintendolife7 жыл бұрын
+Kc Clark With respect a remake would be a new game designed to behave like the original but made from the ground up. This is a port with tweaks to things such as the visuals, but with a bulk of the code identical to the original arcade release.
@DoctorFalchion7 жыл бұрын
Nintendo Life Ah, see, now that's a detail I hadn't realized. I still love the new visuals, but that does dampen it a bit that it hasn't been fully remade from the ground up. Thank you for the information. Still, it's a big visual overhaul. This does push my opinion a little more towards the "not worth it" column, but not drastically. At this point, I'm pinning $25 as my ideal price point, with $30 being totally reasonable and the current price as pushing it, but still worthwhile for series fans. I still believe a lot of people are making mountains out of molehills - a lot of gamers seem to want more game for less money nowadays. There's quite a few games in that $10-20 price range that seem underpriced to me at this point - Shovel Knight, for example. I think the prices we tend to demand hurt the industry, and encourage development of less quality games / more DLC / micro transactions (I've read that, with inflation, today's $60 games are well below the average price point in gaming history).

I think that is total bs every couple of years tech advances making things cheaper don't give devs excuses to overprice games I understand when they come up with games that have highly advanced A.I where a lot of extra coding is involved. Or they have to work around old architecture, one this is an old game and they did a great job redoing some of the art but they did not put the effort that you think into it.30 bucks would have been ok physical, and 15 dollars for digital. The Switch is new tech that was made very developer friendly they had this game up and running in about 3 weeks I bet if that after they decided what art style they would implement and what features they would add and like most have said this is pretty much a remake of what was sold for less on the other 2 systems.

Are you advocating this version is superior to the Japanese only Dreamcast matchmaking service version?

Capcom would have made a lot more money by Charging half the price. I'd rather wait for a virtual console street fighter

ULTRA Street fighter 2 is Switch exclusive. The art is not the same as turbo remix look at digital foundry's video on it. This is the only hardcore 2d fighter with online on Switch and it already sold really well. Blade Strangers is a 2d fighter and it's going to be 39.99 so really USF2 has got value.

I would rather buy 3 to 4 Neo Geo fighting games than 1 game I already bought on the PS3. ... oh wait I already did this! I bought KoF98, Samurai Shodown IV and Garou Mark off the Wolf! Stop supporting Capcom and their shitty decisions ! Don't buy it at $40 to teach them a lesson that overpricing a game they barely spent any money on to rerelease is a SCAM!

What most people fail to realize is, this version is developed bij Capcom, where as the HD remake wasn't. Capcom based this game on Super Turbo and went from there on. They only used the HD remake graphics but at its core this game should blow HD remake out of the water..

40 pounds for a PERFECT street fighter 2????. well for a start butter it up if you must,it's basically HD remix update,an the animation on the remix ruined the pace due to more frames between combo's which people noticed,meaning games were played old school mode to max out combo's an fluidic pace,,,,,,,at a guess this will be the rebalancing capcom are telling of,,,,,,,,.The two against one idea seems obviously unfair however this should help players not as good as hardcore pro's. The HD remix servers on ps3 an 360 were honestly worse I'd seen from capcom as matching fights relied on nothing but other than here you go 180ms ,,,,,Australia is awake results in very laggy unplayable fights.....yes it worked until servers dried up because the game wasn't great,,,,,,some matches wouldn't link giving a last minute kick due to a poor connection,an if host had a poor connection everyone would suffer , i want this to be good, but ssf2t had a perfect version years ago .evil ryu an ken at a guess are like akuma,,,,,,over powered characters for annoying youths online,,,,,, killer instinct is annoying due to characters like rash an shadow jago,,,,,,,,if ultra went pay for content like ki,,,,,i think people would flip for joy,,,,,,nooooo 40pound for a 25 yo game is wrong ,sf2 is special but we've seen it more than once

Yes, the game is worth $40. Is it an incredible deal like say $20 for almost 50 Sega Genesis games? No, but it is still a great game and I found being able to just separate the joycons for instant 2-player gaming is really fun. Even people I know who don't really play video games put down their snap chat to play Street Fighter II with me. $40 is fine. I spend more than $40 to take the kids to the movies for an hour and a half. I think this game was like $70 when my parents bought it for me on SNES back in the day. Oh, and one thing they fixed in this version is the difficulty curve. For some reason, the HD Remix release on PS3 CPU opponents were ridiculous with blocking and countering everything on even the easier modes.

I'm crazy hyped for this game. Street Fighter is my 2nd favorite fighter, behind Smash, and even I'm struggling to see myself spending 40 bucks on a rebooted snes port. I'd say I'll get it pre owned from Gamestop for like 15 in a couple months, but my Switch is 100% DLC and I want to keep it that way. Having my entire library at my literal finger-tips wherever I am is an amazing notion. I dunno... I'll probly pick it up. But only because the Summer Switch releases are a little weak, with Yooka and Rime getting delayed. Uhg!!!!

MarkXV your subjective reality is amusing. What goes through a person's head like yours when somebody mentions an opinion of a passion and you're persuaded to tell them that your opinion is greater than theirs and even state such as factual. You're either a fool or a troll. Either way, not worth a person's consideration. Sad that even a carefree Nintendo video attracts such distasteful people.

I never bought the other versions. I think it's worth it personally. At least it's not 100 for the original SNES cartridge that's a repro in either red or green. So yeah 40 is still worth it Akuma has never been in SF II and he's my fave character and he's easier to use.
