I have this issue sometimes, do you sometimes feel a bit alone about how much you love Ratchet and Clank and not quite understand what other people don't see in it? These games are literally brilliant and sell amazingly, but no one really talks about them in pop culture. It's super weird.
@HowGoodGames2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, unless a new game has come out, Spider-Man takes a lot of insomniacs spotlight nowadays. I think if they do something like a original trilogy remaster for the anniversary this year though hopefully it will get more attention! These are amazing games though!

I feel like Going Commando and Tools of Destruction have the best/most fun planets. But Up Your Arsenal and Crack In Time have the better stories, focus and weapons. But that's subjective. Also Deadlocked has the best combat and weapons overall. Haven't played nexus or rift apart yet. But every game is great for different reasons which makes the games very hard to rank against each other.

Yeah for sure, always have liked the story in UYA and I think Rift Apart is definitely one to check out when you can, I think it nails just about every element.

By the way, the multiplayer mode IS playable online on PS3 today, the servers got revived by fans, and it's as simple as changing the console's DNS. Same goes for Deadlocked HD. Even the PS2 versions are back online, even supporting custom arenas which is crazy, though only the NTSC version is playable online. There's even cross-play between the original consoles and emulators if finding original hardware is too hard for you but you have a powerful enough pc. There's Discord servers dedicated to these online revivals and it's a real shame these projects hardly get any notice.
@HowGoodGames2 жыл бұрын
Yeah good shout, I did see this when I was researching but didn’t look into it to deeply since I normally only do the single player for these games for the most part. There are a heck of a lot of examples of fans keeping games alive, it’s a shame it has to come to that though

This series is just amazing, I've played every single one of them, when rift apart launched the first trailer I was like YEEEEEESSSSSS now I can't wait for the next game, in my opinion all ps2 and psp ratchet and clank games should have a remake like the 1st one did, I just don't understand why people don't talk to much about this, these games are awesome
@therocketmanarch2 жыл бұрын
It's really hard for me to compare Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal. I think both games are excellent. But UYA rose above in one thing - every boss battle is a spectacle, and the bosses themselves are memorable and nicely balanced. I'm glad the devs managed to do this because the bosses were either frustratingly hard (Drek, I spent an hour trying to wreck you), too easy (the Protopet was defeated on the second try!), boring (just die already, Thugs-4-less leader), or just plain uninteresting (Snagglebeast). And Qwark's stupid face on the vid-comic loading screen cracks me up every time I see it.
@HowGoodGames2 жыл бұрын
I have to agree, the boss fights were better and to me it’s because generally you were fighting ‘characters’ more than just supermarket bosses. Dr Nefarious and the self destruct timer at the end is what gets me even after all these years haha
@evanschulz97042 жыл бұрын
I think why UYA is considered the best is not because of all its content but probably because it’s the least bullshit ratchet and clank game. Think about it, ratchet one has the economy problems with bolts and difficulty, going commando has a lot of pacing problems and difficulty spikes. UYA is basically the easiest game for anyone and everyone to start playing. Sometimes an adventure that’s slim and simple can be better than a story that’s massive but have a few problems with it. On a side note writing with an iPad is hell on KZbin
@HowGoodGames2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for pushing through the iPad to comment bro haha Yeah good call outs, I think it was a good starting point, especially when it came to difficulty, and the pacing on it does stay pretty tight. I think it’s a pretty tight contest between a couple of these games to be fair, plus the others don’t have Courtney Gears so bonus points there

I find it funny people only started criticizing this game after TGBS made his video back in 2017. Personally, I enjoy this game more than ratchet 1 and 2 because the weapons are a lot more exciting to use (quality over quantity), and the controls feels a lot better. Ratchet snaps to a direction when you actually move the stick and it doesn't feel as sluggish. Also makes speedrunning a lot easier for correcting mistakes.
@HowGoodGames2 жыл бұрын
I haven’t seen it, I’ll have to check it out! I did watch a lot of golden bolts videos and loved those retrospectives. I loved this game, and it could be my favourite depending on the day. I think this is my most nostalgic game, but the leap from 1-2 for me was just 🤯
@sebastiankulche2 жыл бұрын
I still think is better than the original 2002 game due to having better controls and i aprecciate the upgrades for the core gameplay, but Going Commando i think it has some of my favorite levels in the franchise. I find the minigames to be the least annoying of the trilogy though, and in an action game is something very relevant for me. Imo Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal are very close in terms of quality, i still cannot decide the best. Thats when you realize it really doesnt matter since you know the trilogy ended up being so good.

UYA was very disappointing to me. The multiplayer levels they slapped into the campaign, the lack of multiple routes in the worlds, and really only one enemy type made the game boring to me. The puke yellow UI is also a bit off putting to me as well. It didn't deserve the praise it got. Hearing that I get to go back to Veldin, Blackwater, Metropolis, and Aridia got me blue-balled once I realized that it was just a shitty multiplayer maps they threw into the campaign. I hated it. Up Your Arsenal is a 6/10 campaign.

It was the very first game i completed to 100% back on PS2, i was so fond of it After that i turned back to Going Commando (Locked and Loaded or oddly "Fire At Will" here in Italy) despite was the first game of the series i've bought. The only things i hate of Up Your Arsenal was the lack of weapons and the fucking RYNO 3 at level 5, i fucking hate that weapon at level 5, it was a great weapon until level 4, then it became shit, just like the Zodiac of the second game Funny thing, in Italy in the first game the RYNO was renamed MIPS (Muori In Pochi Secondi = Die in few seconds) but from the second title onwards it remained its original name, i know that the weapon was renamed in some european countries
@HowGoodGames2 жыл бұрын
Dude, that is fascinating, I didn't know about any of those changes for Italy either. If you're going through any of the other Ratchet videos, please keep letting me know about any other differences, I thought it was just us down under that had weird changes. The MIPS option is super interesting, localisation is always such a weird and tricky thing to translate jokes. Is Mips its own word or name in italian? Like Ryno I guess is for a Rhino in english haha.
@JusticeSolaris852 жыл бұрын
@@HowGoodGames In italian, MIPS doesn't mean anything, it's just an acronym
@rily28852 жыл бұрын
I agreed, as a child this was my favorite by far, but the older I get the more I appreciate the first game design and themes, r&c3 is not bad at all but it think most of the praise comes from the humor and how easier and accesible is and how "rewarding" the game is, with this I mean how the game constantly spams you rewards, like leveling up very fast so your guns do more flashy stuff which is neat but is very superficial and covers a lack of detail, challenge and clever level design previous games had, for me it was like a sugar saturated candy, adictive, simple and sweet, that's why worked for me back then, but now is for me the weakest in terms of gameplay of the trilogy
@HowGoodGames2 жыл бұрын
When you look at the amount of time and crunch the developers went through to get this out on time, it’s incredible to see the result they put out. But like you said, there is much more flash then substance because of it, and I think the game does want to distract you a little bit with that. Still a fantastic game and I still think it is right up there in the series as a whole, but you’re right, definitely didn’t have the same depth in design as the first two
@sebastiankulche2 жыл бұрын
I think the level up was done for the best, and newer Ratchet And Clank games take Up Your Arsenal as the base for this. Some weapons on Ratchet 2 take forever to level up.
@xero10482 жыл бұрын
It used to be one of my favourites, however as time went on I found myself liking it less and less, to the point that now I see it as the worst of the original trilogy. I put it on the same level as tools of destruction. 1. Crack in Time 2. Rift Apart 3. Going Commando 4. Ratchet and Clank 6. Deadlocked 5. Up your Arsenal 6. Tools of Destruction 7. All 4 One, Full Frontal Assault, quest for booty Into the nexus is tough for me to place because of its length. If it was a full length game then I'd likely put it in 3rd, but because its so short it probably goes in 6th.
