As a flight instructor....we teach that your sense of up and down is determined by a combination of inputs. Your eyes, your inner ear, and your tactile senses, all over your body combine to tell your brain which way is up. When you confound one or two of these senses...as in...your butt in a static chair...and your eyes telling you stuff that isn't true....things can go awry in your head pretty quickly. One has to re-wire their brain flying airplanes from static chairs. I'm DYING for a company to hit my my core when it comes to these simulators. I want to make the airplane....which you can do with Plane Maker...but it's like pulling teeth using that format to generate 3D models. I want to make the plane in a true modeling program like Solidworks...and then merge it into their system. Then I want smooth running graphics at high rez...at high speed.

Here's another one for my to-do list. I've flown X-Plane with Nvidea's 3D glasses and Track-ir's head tracking and at the time that was about as close as you could get to vr and it was pretty awesome but now the vr is actually here I've got to try this. Might even be worth build a hydraulic chair for a full motion flight simulator.

How are you getting those frame rates? I'm on a GTX 1080 Ti and Ryzen 7 and it barely runs at 20fps. Any tips would be great, currently it's unplayable as there's so much lag with the Rift CV1. DCS and Aerofly2 run amazingly but I'd like to get Xplane 11 at least playable. Thanks!

I can't wait for higher resolution lenses for either Oculas rift and HTC Vive. I'm using Oculas for VR in Xplane 11, it's running really good on my system connected to my Asus Strix oc 1080ti but it's still needs a sharper image.

No, do not buy. Wait for the true replacement with the composite fuselage. Should be a circular fuselage, but might be oval. Will have lots of the 787 bugs worked out by then and possible synthetic vision systems added to the HUDs. The landing gear will be taller for even longer fuselages than they have now and to allow for better engine cowlings and pylons. Also totally new wings and empennage.

I'm using the rift with an i7 cpu, gtx 1060 card, 16G ram....Generally the other apps in vr look pretty good...but with flyinsideXp and xplane 11 I get pretty good frame rates (40/90), and the response is great except an occasional studder....but the graphics are pretty horrible with a lot of 'tearing' in the distance even though settings are turned down, and the dials in the cockpit are almost unreadable. In your videos your experience looks a lot better. Any suggestions would be appreciated and also, I'm wondering if the gtx 1060 card is significantly less that what you are using? Thanks. Great videos, I really enjoy them...

Xaiborg Its flight Simms in general. In Xplane 11 you will get a fluctuating 35 to 50 frames depending on settings, it's the same with any flight Simm and always has been. You could have the best Hardware components in the world in your pc and you will still only get 35 to 50 frames at max settings. The thing that confuses folks is even at only 35 frames in Xplane 11 it is still smooth. With Xplane 11 if you want max settings you need a graphics card with a lot of Vram, and I mean a lot. I'm currently using 10.3 of 11 gig of Vram.

Let's face the truth, the resolution is quite horrible. It reminds me the days back in 2004 with the cartoon-like graphics in the dawn of pc gaming era. Ok, I'm exaggerating a little bit but when you spend a serious amount of hard earned cash to purchase a VR headset and related accessories, you are expected to be critical of such important issues as the low resolution or the screen-door effect (which is also present and gets in the way to further degrade the VR experience). I believe in two or three years the next generation of VR hardware will finally sort out all the above drawbacks and will also address the fact of the high cost of current VR hardware. For those of us that we use Flight Sims less than a game and more of a virtual flight practice instrument I reckon we should wait for a couple of years before we invest in expensive hardware which in turn will be also obsoleted in no time in the next period when a new generation of hardware will take over.

Flyinside is a poor solution... try aerofly 2 fs - there is native vr support

FSX works fine for me, I edited the resolution inside flyinside and very crisp and clear with REX/active sky and airport/airplane addons.

I found that FSX had less impact than X-PLANE 11 (demo). On fsx I get around 30/90 and on X plane I got around 10/90 and some stuttering at 5/54. The Xplane 11 has more ground textures, etc, but once I turned down the resolution inside flyinside I got around 20/90, still no where near as smooth as I get with FSX. I have invested in a lot of expensive addons in FSX and cannot afford to switch to a new flight simulator. I would need to upgrade my processor from an I5 to an I7.

It's honestly the best possible solution for flight sim immersion. It's incredible when it works and it's only going to get better form here.

It's shaky because your head shakes, it looks rough as all hell when you are watching the results of someone else's head bobbing around, but when it is real time with your head's movements you don't see it at all. Look in a mirror and talk, see how much your head moves, that is what you are seeing in the VR videos. Try VR somewhere and you'll see that this is no problem at all. I'm not saying VR doesn't have problems (resolution, crazy system requirements etc) but this isn't one of them.

Honestly, try VR with your flight sim, you'll never go back go staring at a monitor again. You actually feel like your sat in the flight deck with a oculus rift on, i even got the feeling of losing my stomach on takeoff like in real life.

VR-HYPE, not more than this! See the truth about VR, which is NOT a good choice for controlling complex machines like airplanes. It might be fine for games, which are easy controlled with just a mouse, but not for handling 800+ switches, rotators, sliders, asf., as you get no feeling feedback or any other feedback what you do. It takes up to 10 times longer to move certain switches/rotators in VR than doing this on physical ones with a normal view onto them. Can you imagine, what a pain in the ass it is in VR, to fill a flightplan on the FMC or handling the FCU in a jet like an airbus? It would only work, if all physically actuators are exactly in the same place as in the VR-view, but then you'll have to have a complete cockpit anyway and still don't see your hands on them, which is a real downgrade! Invest 700,-EUR and fly a full motion flightsim from time to time. There you can really FEEL the plane moving, which is the most important part of the imersion. I landed on the old Kai Tak with a 747, even with gusty crosswind on the first try, because of that imersion! ;)
