I got a 10 year purple top and it’s unique and fantastic. Tastes like a dusty oak grape

Great video! For their own distillate they use a very unique yeast strain, for my palate they always jump out in blinds. Best advice is to try it at a bar, HOWEVER... its a single barrel product. Results may vary. Cheers!

I always enjoy your takes on the different bottles - introducing me to new brands and I have gone out and bought ones just because of your ratings. However, there are reviews that are interesting only for information. I mean, it is good to hear about your takes on expensive, hard to find bottles, but I don't see me paying for the price of those even if I can find them. Thanks.

100% agree! Love the rye SiBs purple top ehh…also that clean linen note from Erin…on all of their own distillate I get a distinct lavender note for me anyway great video!

Willett SiB (purple tops) are my favorite bourbons, they do vary greatly from barrel to barrel, but that is one of the reasons why I like them so much. I would definitely suggest trying before you buy if you aren't a huge Willett fan. They are very expensive nowadays, with the 11 year that just hit my market having a $420 msrp. Anything that you come across from them that was released in the past few years and is younger than 11 years old should be their own distillate, unless it's some random one off distillery release or something like that.

Willett was by far my favorite distillery visit in Kentucky. The 10 and 11 years are a little too pricey for me unless it's a great run. Once the 6-9yr starts coming up again, I'm a buyer every day of the week below 300

Willett purple top is intermittently available where I live. Total Wine gets it on occasion and doesn't mark it up higher than MSRP - I've seen it for $250 there. The problem is that MSRP is too high for what it offers. I tried it at a local whisky bar that has a half-price special on some of their whiskies on Wednesdays. I remember it being an 8-year. It is intense and flavorful, but I didn't find anything there that justifies a price over $200. (Above $200, I start to get really picky.) If it was under $200, I might consider picking up a bottle, but there are bourbons in the low $100 range and even under $100 that perform just as well. I suppose that, for me, Willett purple top is one of those things I might order at a bar on occasion, but I doubt I will buy one to keep around at home unless the price comes down at some point.

$250 opens Willett Purple Top against a HUUUUUGE number of competitors. At that price, the world of whisky is nearly completely open. It's all about looking past the luxury marketing.

Any idea on the barrel numbers? Maybe once we know who sent the samples, maybe they know.

It's a good question. I know Willett sourcing and runs and mashbills are all over the place (OG, high rye, low rye, wheated, etc). Wish I knew these and should have notated them in the key. Hopefully someone in chat chimes in with an age and proof that matches.

You absolutely spoiled us with that Owen's Handpicked, brother. Sheeeeesh that was an amazing SiB! To this day it's the one Willett SiB that stands out in our minds. Well, that and Sweet Walter Rye, because of my uncle's name being Walter (RIP). Those are the two branded in my memory.

There are quite a few different sources of WFE bourbons as well as a ton of their own mash bills as well. If you don’t like one, that doesn’t mean you won’t like them all. The Willet distillates are all pot stilled, so if you don’t like pot still whiskey, stick to the sourced versions.

Imagine my excitement when I got the call that I my top shelf raffle ticket was pulled. Rushed to the store. See there's a purple top(10 year) still available. Take it to the register. $599. I was incapable of saying no thanks. I may never open it. Still feel kinda sick about it.

They definitely charge a pretty penny for the purple tops. We've yet to have one that warrants the massive price tags. They are pretty bottles though.

Any time I get into either of my two,Purple Tops, Erin’s words are my vibe…”This one’s difficult to explain…” I kind of hate that my best MSRP hook up gets Purple Tops more than anything else…so I started saying no, as I’m just too dumb or something to flip them.

@@stuffandwhiskey Gotta admit, I have been working to work up a decent copycat egg salad with the right cheese and all, but my most useful bar revelation from my week in KY before the first BFH bottle share on Thursday night was Michter’s bar snacks…Corn Nuts (the bartender said they were gourmet Corn Nuts, but whatever) and dried banana slices. I bought some of both at Kroger the next day…and given my already growing bottle count in my trunk, I didn’t get a really discounted Wilderness Trail 8 year wheater from their liquor store…mild regrets.
