🔴The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 Puts Davinci Resolve on BEAST MODE!!: • The NVIDIA GeForce RTX...
It's been 2 years since Windows 11 first came on to the scene, and when it first came out, there were a lot of people warning video editors not to switch. In fact, there were actually reports of Davinci Resolve running slower on Windows 11 than they did on Windows 10. So here's the question. Now that it's been a couple of years, and with the end of support date for Windows 10 being only a couple of years away, has anything changed? Is Windows 11 finally stable enough for Davinci Resolve?
In this video, I sit down with Matt Bach from ‪@PugetSystemsPC‬ to discuss what we can expect from Windows 11, whether or not Windows 11 is ready for Davinci Resolve, and even what hardware you would want in a new Windows 11 system.

Thank you Jay for making this video. This has given me to the confidence to fresh install Windows 11. I recently had my Windows 10 boot drive get corrupted. I had to make the choice of whether I was going to fresh install Windows 11 or Windows 10 or Linux Pop_OS. I decided to fresh install Windows 10 since I was afraid of the learning curve of a new U.I.

Thanks for all the info! Upgrading is always such a pain. There's always something that won't work, isn't compatible or in some way flakey once you start poking at it. Since I finally have Divinci where it doesn't crash all the time, I suppose it's time to poke it again... 😎

One of the biggest issues with a move to Windows 11 is the hardware issue.. Core PC hardware as recent as 2017, which practically performs perfectly well for most people, isn't officially supported. Forcing people to do an upgrade for an OS isn't particularly ideal.. pushing people out of the loop when their hardware is still respectable is even less ideal.
@JayLippman
@JayLippman 7 ай бұрын
I tend to agree, especially with the second point. Pushing people to the new OS I get, only selling new PCs with the newest OS I definitely get, but ending support on Windows 10 seem a bit premature and out of character for Microsoft. My best guess is that because of the security requirements of Windows 11, they would have to push two different sets of updates in order to continue to support Windows 10. But that’s just a guess.
@Gavrev
@Gavrev 7 ай бұрын
@@JayLippman I think the security issue was a pretty dominant one - there have been some significant flaws exposed in latter day processors. That being said though I run the latest Davinci Resolve just fine along with the likes of the Affinity design suite, Blender.. all this stuff seems to work very respectably. Admittedly I don't push the software too hard and Blender is always happier with "more", but it's a rough pill to swallow. Don't get me wrong Windows 11 looks reasonable and nice, but my 2017 pc still has my back for everything but the most extreme projects I might wish to dream up for it., and honestly knowing Microsoft there's bound to be some of the usual profiteering and data harvesting manipulation going on under the hood.

Wondows 11 is still "young" so expect issues with most of the softwares we use. Im also a Da Vinci Resolve user and some 3d rendering works. Still using windows 10 and just gonna wait for another yr or 2 before switiching to windows 11. By then, windows 11 bugs or issues will be already resolved.

Yeah you’ve got time. I haven’t noticed any issues with the software I’m using, but there are some minor bugs in the UI that can be annoying. I have the taskbar set to automatically hide unless I put my mouse at the bottom of the green, and sometimes it just refuses to hide.

Get a new hard drive and install win11 there. In the worst case, you plug in the old drive and have additional storage with the new drive. Win10 has virtual desktops. One of the most used features on my end. The tabs for the explorer sound great. Well, guess I have to clean up my data, and finally give win11 a go.

You do realize that Microsoft is going to stop supporting W10 in 2025? And at this point it's already very hard to find a new PC that's running W10? Do you hate it so much that you're willing to risk the lack of security support? Plus, you can customize the toolbar to look like it used to.

@@JayLippman i also have a pc with win 7 still running, no issiues. To me there are no Security issiues. The new system more or less is a spy system so 11 is the Security risk if you will. The tmp chip is nothing but a a spy unit. You could deactivate it in older windows versions but you cant in 11. I build a new system with a rhyzen 5800x and microsoft told me my hardware is not good enough for 11.. come on my cpu is good enough for years and under the hood 11 is the same as 10. 11 brings zero benefits to me and what i have heard it is missing features 10 had like virtual desktops i use all the time.

Interesting about Windows 11. However Windows 11 has given me nothing other than a world of pain to install. Even though I built my PC in 2019, its still an incredibly fast piece of kit because I spec-ed it out for editing using Puget guides on what not to do and what to do. My problems are installing a fresh Windows 11 itself. The hardware, especially the motherboard has TPM, but when I try to install Windows 11 it either fails spectacularly or deletes all my Windows 10 passwords from the motherboard BIOS so that when I revert to Windows 10 I can't get in. I have to go begging to Microsoft to put my passwords back into the BIOS. WTF? So, until I'm forced to upgrade then I'm not moving. I like to early adopt but the transfer from 10 to 11 has been incredibly painful. I'm so glad that I make regular Bare-Metal backups of my Operating System. Because it has saved my arse so many times. I'd give some serious thought to a Bare-Metal backup of your operating system hard drive. If you get a Ransomware attack, a virus or a Graphics Card driver update failure then you can wipe your hard drive clean in minutes and be back up and running as if nothing ever happened. I use Acronis to back up my Operating System hard drive however this is a paid for bit of kit. There is an equally good free version called Paragon Backup and Recovery. Acronis is on my desktop and Paragon is on my laptop because I don't want to pay for an extra license.

Why do people act like "end of support" is the end of world? It's not. I'm in still on Win 10. I hate the Win 11 TaskBar and Start Menu. I want the ENTIRE taskbar on the left side of the screen without 3rd party software. I want Win 10 tiled Start Menu. It's very useful to me.

End of support means no more security patches are coming to windows 10 after October 2025. It also means you can no longer purchase or build new PCs running Windows 10. If you’re still on Windows 10 after end of support, you’re leaving your PC vulnerable to security breaches.

@@JayLippman Eh, I'm not overly doomsday worried since I don't visit dodgy sites and I use UBlock Origin. And, WRONG, you can can certainly still build new PCs running using older version of Windows.

Interesting. For those with older machines Linux is always an option. I often think if I was smart I would dump windows for linux on all my machines. You can do more with less hardware without the Windows pig and big brother. Having said that, I've been running 11 and Resolve on an Acer Predator notebook for over a year now. 12 gen I7, RTX3060, 16 gb ram. I also run other specialized software - geographic information systems, mapping software, wildland fire behavior modeling. No performance problems although I should mention I only work in 1080p. Since that is what I consume media in that is what I produce. And except for the time Microsoft broke my machine with their updates not long after purchase, glitches are few and far between. Except for bluetooth audio issues. Almost every time I connect I need to turn bluetooth off and on up to 6 or 8 times to get it to connect properly. I agree people will get used to the new interface but I still hate the new start menu. I tend to agree about fresh install. My machine at purchase was surprisingly clean. I must admit I got lazy and bought a software package to connect the old and new and transfer software as I specified automagically. It worked! Aside from the fact it is a MS product, no complaints here.

The only bummer is that the free version doesn't have the same codex support on Linux. There's no support for mp4/h.264 unless you upgrade to the paid version vs it being included on Windows and macOS for free.
