Here's a plausible explanation. Wonder Woman goes back in time to the Second World War and stories about her circulate like those of the Angel of Mons after the First World War. DCAU William Marsten hears the stories and invents her _as a comic book character._ Girls grow up with Wonder Woman posters because she has a comic book about her (fictional) adventures. Lois Lane is referring to the _fictional_ Wonder Woman. When Diana finally shows up on the scene, everyone just assumes she was inspired by the comic to take up the mantle of Wonder Woman.

The Heroes of the '40s were often referred to as "Mystery Men" rather than "Super Heroes". I think that this may imply that they were more of an "urban legend" sort of thing than out in the open. So there ~may~ have been a "Justice Society" that avoided headlines and met in secret leaving only rumors and second-hand stories being circulated about their existence. This would tend to explain things like Jay's helmet appearing in the Central City Flash museum, the references to "more reports of costumed super men" from the episode "The Savage Time", Etc. Hypolita ~may~ have been a part of that group leaving the island to help during the war and then later returning to Themyscira after the war ended. As to the age issues of characters being "too old" if they were active in the 1940's, that was addressed several ways in the comics. At one point as a group, the JSA members were exposed to a form of "temporal radiation" which supposedly slowed their aging. Individually... Alan Scott's aging was slowed due to the "magic ring". Jay Garrick aged more slowly due to his superspeed/speedforce powers. Wildcat had "9 lives" of which at least one was spent bringing him back to biologically be in his mid-40's after he died of old age. Fate... Kent Nelson was essentially immortal so long as he was Dr. Fate.

There's one other possibility you have not considered: Hypolita got the armor, she was Wonder Woman for, let's say a few years, and then, disgusted by the world of men, she went back to Themyscira and issued the law that prevents the Amazons from ever being kinky (at least with a guy, there's no telling what happens in those baths). Being as old as she is, this can have happened 200 years ago, or whatever other number you want to think of. Timed passed, and the legend of _the Wonder Woman_ started to seem a little far-fetched, since nobody had ever seen her. degrading eventually into an urban myth, or an old wives' tale. Maybe saying "Yeah, and I'm Wonder Woman" now carries the same weight as "Sure, when pigs learn to fly" or something like that. There's no need for a Justice Society to have ever existed, neither for the other members to know of her, or to be extremely old. It can also explain why she adopts the name Wonder Woman: a. She heard it from her mother when she had her run. b. People gave it to her in reference to that urban myth. c. Another leaguer suggested it to her for the same reason (probably Flash, hoping she would find that flattering and do him, but he ended up getting a "Seems fitting, thanks" since she had no idea of the legend)

Revisiting this, I feel like the easiest answer is that a member of Easy Company or the Blackhawks (more likely Easy Company) was Lois' grandfather and he passed down the legend to Sam, who then passed it down to Lois and Lucy. She was a military folk-legend, and Lois, being a military brat, is familiar enough with her legend from interacting with other military brats that she just naturally assumes that anybody would get the refeence.

In the Savage Time, as soon as the League show up in the past, one of Vandal Savage's cronies mentions "more" reports of costumed super-men. We do know that Spy Smasher existed in WWII, but this comment about reports of superheroes, before the League showed up in the past, makes me think there were other superheroes besides Spy Smasher at this time. I suspect that Hippolyta did leave Themyscira at one time and fought evil in man's world, but was not part of a Justice Society.

Here's a thought. What if it goes back even further? Perhaps Hippolyta used the armor during the time of ancient Greece, and that got transcribed into myth like the other gods and heroes. My headcanon for the entire situation is that it works on Metaverse rules. The universe just kinda coped with the changes to the timeline and so things were similar enough that the characters that remembered things beforehand didn't immediately notice the changes... but we've seen the timeline from the point of view of history as it became after those events, even though Vandal Savage sending a laptop back in time when he knows it fails is a paradox, because the main universe of a DC multiverse can just kinda cope with that sort of thing, because it was sent back in time in the previous timeline. From the POV of the heroes, they have a stable time loop, but it started from the timeline that existed before said loop began and only remains because the universe needs it to stay in place for the purpose of keeping the timeline from being damaged. The prior versions of the timeline are split off into their own universes (Convergence multiverse rules), so Earth-X is out there as a timeline where the League never shows up and the first version of the DCAU where the League didn't exist in World War 2 at all is still out there. I'd even posit that these changes are responsible for the timeline differences in the Justice Lords universe. The Justice Lords universe is actually the timeline that started this mess. So, the series of events is thus: Justice Lords form -> Justice Lords travel back in time while still heroes and do the events of the episode -> they arrive in their present, their past oddly unchanged because... -> To cope, the metaverse pops the Justice Lords universe off into a seperate universe and pulls a Flashpoint and edits the Metaverse (just like what happened when New Earth, then the Metaverse, was replaced with the N52 when Dr. Manhattan exploited Flashpoint), this being the DCAU we've followed from the start (where the myth of the Wonder Woman, the Superman, the Green Lantern, the Hawk Girl and the really fast guy exists due to these events) -> to maintain this timeline, the universe has the now Justice _League_ end up doing the same time travel and kinda sorta taking the place of the Justice Lords, with the only change being the team name -> They arrive in their present, the timeline seemingly no different than how it was and creating a stable time loop which thus ensures that it still functions correctly. As far as I can tell, this follows the rules of the main DCU's multiversal metaphysics, despite causing my brain to itch a bit. As far as I can tell, this mirrors the events of Flashpoint, where Barry leaves New Earth and ends up in N52 Earth despite the logical paradox that's required for him to have done this within the timeline of N52 Earth. He both already did everything and didn't at the same time, because the version of him that did it originally is a distinct entity and yet he still did it in the new timeline too, despite this not working logically because the events would go differently with N52 Barry in New Earth Barry's place. Plus New Earth Barry was the resurrected Earth-1 Barry who died before the Crisis rebooted everything because he died fighting it and became one with the (speed) force, but he wasn't the Earth-1 Barry upon resurrection, he was the Barry of New Earth, a world which can still partially remember the Crisis (in broad strokes, and without being aware of the massive changes in time) despite not even existing at the time of the Crisis's beginning and also Barry of New Earth being dead in the (very recent) history of New Earth at the time New Earth was born despite the fact it wasn't the Barry of New Earth that actually died in the Crisis.

2:45 I just love it when random throwaway lines end up causing continuity issues. I remember when Monster University came out, and the director was even considering *cancelling* the movie because the original one had a throwaway line which implied that the two main characters have known each other since they were kids. Or how the second X-Men movie has a blink-and-you-miss-it cameo of "Hank McCoy" on TV, which could imply that Beast became a Mutant before that moment, but then the prequel movies established that he was already Beast by the 1960s, so they had to come up with a special serum simply to justify that one blink-and-you-miss-it moment. And then, let's not forget how Static Shock had the infamous "even Clark Kent has a day job" line, which had to be cut after it was established that this show takes place in the DC Animated Universe, so how exactly would they know that Superman is Clark Kent?

Batman first uses it deep into the first season (I think "Fury") and it's basically like it's been used. She's just known as "Diana" the first several episodes. Either the "Savage Time" or Hyppolita (sp.?) theories work with that. It easily could be that someone recognized either her or her outfit from the past and ran with it... I think there was a jsa but they were possibly more covert than the league themselves, to throw people off the government might have commissioned a series of comicbooks changing the team and team members names just so that if anyone were to mention seeing these heroes in real life they would have been accused of having an overactive imagination maybe. The fact that the guild exist within the multiverse could just be a coincidence

The Justice Guild comic Jon Stewart grew up would of been written by one of the WWII solders the time displaced League fought beside. So the artist would of seen them and tells his story when he got home, but his facts would be a bit off so we get things like a Cat instead of a Bat, and additions like a Hermes helmet on the speedster... So i'm thinking they had a Wonder Woman in the comic and Lois could of read them as she bounced around with her little sis and military dad... Note: Wildcat would of then based his costume after the Cat-Man from the comic, then trained Bruce (and the loop continues)... Any stories of Supers in the WWII would be covered up as they were still a rare event. Soldiers would be told to keep quite to protect their country. So it would be plausible nobody knew the crazy war stories their parents and grandparents told them were real, and some may not say anything until their old and people think their minds just going. So JSA happened and its just forgotten (w/ Hippolyta?) to time like the super tech the "Not" Nazis had... JSA are not needed... Easiest fix would be to say the younger looking versions in Unlimited are the first to hold the mantels and not second generation heroes. If this is the case, i would like to say the WWII soldiers the Leagues saved were the non-powered Alan Scott, Jay Garret, Rex Tyler and other JSA members who then raised their children with tales of the heroes that saved them. This in turn would inspire the ones we see join the team... As DC and Marvel always does the mirror thing... In Marvel's Spiderman AMS (90's) the retired Whizzer did the WWII hero Comics... So Jay Garret would do the Justice Guild Comics likely with Alan Scott's help, cause Flash and GL always work well together right...

My personal Head Canon: inspired by the urban legends of "flash" and "Green Lantern" spread by Easy company and The Blackhawks, Alan Scott and Jay Garrick become those heroes. The Gods takes notice of the race to the Atom bomb (Ares influence on world leaders) and recruit Hippolyta to become "Wonder Woman". Together this trinity creates the JSA during the height of WWII in honor of the time traveling Justice League. John never knew about the JSA because from his timeline, as a kid, he had yet to inspire their creation. The JSA ONLY exist in a parallel timeline skewed into existence by Vandal Savage and the JL. If the JSA is a US/military operation it might just not be public knowledge. Lois being a generals daughter and a reporter has seen some evidence of "wonder Woman" but it's all top secret and not common knowledge. Perhaps Lois gave that poster to Kara or she found it and just liked the "rosy the riveter" like imagery without knowing the whole context. I like this because then it preserves the REAL world history that Superman is the prime cause that effected the creation of the DC universe and why we even call them "Super"heroes to begin with. They are not "pulp heroes" or "mystery men" or "Meta human" or any other later coined term to wash away the influence Superman's debut had on American culture. They are Superheroes because they are ALL inspired by Superman.

I can also say for a fact as power rangers fan. Fans tend to take the cannon more seriously then writers. Writers have deadlines and limited time to go over details and debate what makes sense, fans have years.

My theory about the final thought in this video: The JLA travel back to WW2, their escapades inspire the Justice Guild comics, but the JSA doesn't exist in this world.

You are off on quite a bit of this, Star Girl is not an OG Member of the Justice Society and is age correct for the DCAU, Johnny Thunder has the Lighting Imp and can be ageless, Hawkman has been reincarnated several times and been on several teams in the DCU, could be the same for the DCAU, Captain Marvel was a not in the original JSA either he was a Fawcett Publications character purchased by DC in the 70's. Stripe has always been an Adult and was partnered with Sylvester Pemberton The Star-Spangled Kid, Atom Smasher is the not The Atom from JSA he is his adopted son, Starman pictured is not Ted or Jack Knight but the alien Prince Gavyn, Commander Steel was not a JSA member, and Obsidian is the son of the Golden Age Green Lantern. WildCat like all the OG JSA members spent some time out of time and did not age due to that fact.

That said still entertaining. ^_^

You’re certainly right. If we go by “usual” DCAU logic, anything goes, as we touched on with the mixing of origins in terms of Wally West, Kyle Rayner, etc. We try to use only evidence from the cartoons themselves when possible, when touching upon these theories, so things like Hawkman reincarnating, while possible (as seen in JLU), doesn’t seem to gel well with the Thanagarians’ appearance on Earth seeming to be the first time anyone’s ever seen a hawk-person. But on the other hand, we never see the “JSA era” really on the shows, so it’s always possible they could be retconned in and we’d just have to...deal with it. Specifically, in the case of some of the members you mentioned: I said “versions of” Starman and Commander Steel, referring to Ted Knight and Citizen Steel. The point wasn’t that this was the original JSA team, but that these are all characters typically associated with the JSA that appeared over the course of the DCAU.

I think it would be WILD to get a feature film in the DCAU in which Hypolita follows a divine mission through the ages of men.

Or Lois Lane could have just picke da coincidental name... like she was trying to make up a superhero title to mock someone with. She obviously went with Woman and then while thinking of an adjective she went with Wonder because it rhymes and sounds good. She is a reporter after all. Also Wonder Woman isn’t immediately called Wonder Woman when she first appears. What if Superman gave her that name after mentioning it to her, or Lois Lane gave Diana the name in a news article.

I always wondered if the JSA existed in some form in the DCAU but by the time JLU came along I kind of thought not. However in the comics Wild Cat aged a lot slower than a normal guy so the version scene in JLU could have been around in the 40s and maybe since they feature people like Star Girl etc who were inspired by golden age characters its possible their forbears existed too. Who knows, but we could have a team that was say Starman, Dr Fate, Wild cat and the Hippolyta version of Wonder woman plus a few others such as Sandman and the original Hourman and Black Canary.

Well savage does mention that there another report about super power people or something like that. Maybe the justice society does come to exist. There’s a lot to consider. But the last theory is the most believable. That Wonder Woman because a World War Two pop culture reference. There was a theory that Steve wrote a book about her. But that’s a little far fetched.

Wandering in 6 years late to drop my two cents. Many years ago, I worked as a ghostwriter on a memoir by a D-Day veteran. He wanted to get his war stories down on paper for his grandkids in case he died before they were old enough to hear them. During the writing process, he pulled out his mementos (some quite grisly) and told stories he claimed he'd never previously discussed with anyone who wasn't there. Some were sad, some were horrific, and some were frankly hilarious. From this experience, I present two datapoints: 1. Based on his detailed recounting of (apparently) every pretty woman he saw in France, Wonder Woman would definitely have stood out to the men who saw her, and 2. Some true war stories honestly make better fiction than anything else. The guy had a completely insane story about a stolen ham that wouldn't have been out of place in a screwball comedy film. It didn't take much prodding for me to turn the story into something that got passed around his office for laughs. What if an encounter with Wonder Woman were fictionalized by one of the men who encountered her? Supergirl's poster could be referencing a film adaptation. Lois could have seen a TV show in her childhood. And when an obvious newcomer appeared, innocently calling herself Wonder Woman (or even getting the title applied by a press that had grown up on the stories), well, nobody wanted to hassle her. (I sure wouldn't want to hassle her.) Just a thought.

3:38 I canon this as some people actually DO know Clark Kent IS Superman in DCAU. They are just powerless or beefless to do anything about it, and villains just don't have time for this nonsense and Lois is close to Superman anyways. Let's harass her again boys. In Silver-Bronze Age canon (Earth-1 aka) Pete Ross KNEW who Clark Kent - Superman is but Superman himself DIDN'T, even when he once granted him super powers and made Pete Ross Superboy for a time.

A word from an old fart. The JLA resides on Earth ! and the JSA resides on Earth 2. Regardless of the Crisis on Infinite Earths, the 1960's established who was who and where they came from. See JLA comics from the 1960's to get your facts straight. The animated series deviates from this point .

For your Wildcat problem, what if this was a father and son situation. If there was a Wildcat in the 40s, that had a kid in the mid 40s, then he would be old enough to have a career in boxing in the 70s or 80s, and be as old as he is in the present.

The real reason for wonder woman qoute in blast from the past part 1 in stas is because justice League was there next planned show there was supposed be a fourth season that would've introduce wonder woman like the other crossover's in the series what Lois said was supposed to foreshadow the event but because the series was cancelled and WB wanted shows with young leads that never happened but at least on the plus side we got batman beyond 🦇 and static shock ⚡ and the zeta project 🤖
