I’ve been in antidepressants for over 20 yrs. I started vitamin B complex 15 yrs ago. It made a massive difference. Vitamin D and iron with vitamin C and fish oil also make a big difference with my adhd. Consistent exercise, sleep and good diet is also a must.

@KZbinPurgetheblackplagu Why did your doctors tell you to stop? Be careful with iron. It is possible to ingest too much, and develop iron toxicity or iron overload. That is one of the reasons why my doctor asks for me to have blood work every 3 months as they try to treat my anemia...to make sure I improve, but don't overload on iron.

Great video today, as always, and a relevant topic to me. I found out I had low B12. My diet wasn't up to par. I started supplementing B12 per doc's orders and I noticed an uptick in energy. I also supplement, on my own accord, with the bioavailable form of Folate. I would say the difference after adding the Folate, was less impressive than when first adding the B12 in terms of energy increase and working memory. Thanks again for your extremely informative videos and the relevant topics that you choose to discuss. Luke

I'm so glad you made this video. I have treatment resistant depression (and CPTSD, GAD and PMDD) and had no idea how badly I needed B12. My doctor suggested Blood Builder for iron/B12 and it worked well but my levels still weren't as high as they should be. I added 2000 mg sublingual B12 on top of that about a year ago and it seriously changed my life. SSRIs still don't work for me but my energy levels, body aches and memory have noticeably improved. I'm not vegan but do eat meat only a few times a week and didn't realize that wasn't enough. I'd love to see a video on your thoughts on N-acetyl cistine. I added that to my repertoire about 6 months ago and have noticed an improvement with that as well. Love your content!

That's what I was thinking, that the inflammation from a lot of our foods and some other factors could be causing the depression in the first place. It's kind of like the cause of not drinking enough water that makes you feel like crap and sluggish. They're all connected, especially to your mental/ brain health.

Some of us have a bad gene on the MTHFR pair that means that we can't use folate from dietary sources. Unfortunately, this isn't routinely tested for. I know because if you're a woman who has had issues with initiating or maintaining pregnancy, you get tested. Anyway, if you have this genetic mutation, you need to supplement with l-methylfolate. Given that a lot of folks never learn that they have this mutation, I wonder whether some of the people who present as medication resistant actually have the inability to use folate from diet anyway.

I have learned that I have an inherited gene mutation that makes it impossible for me to absorb synthetic forms of vitamins. I have suffered from depression and more for longer than I can remember. I take a multivitamin that lists all natural ingredients with no synthetic forms of vitamins and minerals. It has made an amazing difference in how I feel. I have been researching all that is mentioned here and agree 💯% that many symptoms can be improved and managed by proper nutrition.

The mental health system is definitely in crisis, similar to finding family doctors. I've worked as a psychiatric RN for 17 years, and have seen the waitlists growing, for all mental health professionals. When I was working as a community mental health and addiction Nurse in a small community, I was booked solid a month ahead and had a waitlist. What are you implementing in the meantime to help you feel better? There's lots of things that can be helpful while you wait. What have you explored, in terms of lifestyle and non pharmacological interventions? Do you have additional mental health support?

Is there any link to L-Methylfolate deficiencies and MTHFR gene mutations and depression?
@rhondamills2621
@rhondamills2621 11 ай бұрын
There was definitely a link for me. Some mthfr gene anomalies cannot break down regular folate otc supplements or food with folate. I am one of them. Because my body cannot break down folate I have a rx from my psychiatrist for L-methylfolate Ca which is called Deplin 15. It is already broken down by methylation so my body can use it as it is bioavailable for my condition. I was gene tested by my psychiatrist to figure this all out, homozygous for C677T. This can and did make a difference in how my depression meds worked for me finally after 40 years on and off trying many different things. Taking methylated folate has also lowered my homocysteine levels which is a definite improvement for my all over health. Wishing you good health.

I'm so sorry to hear about this. I had a nightmare experience on antidepressants. I was diagnosed with antidepressant induced bipolar disorder and suffered from that for 13 years. I also had adverse reactions to so many psychiatric medications and had to stop immediately. I got steven Johnson's syndrome on Lamotrigine and had to be hospitalized. I share my experiences with psychiatric medications on my KZbin channel. I also believe in a holistic approach to mental health and wellness. Glad to hear you're feeling better. Thank you for sharing your experiences with others and warning them. It's such a terrifying experience when you have adverse effects and toxicity to medications. Some people will get irreversible effects from these medications. I've witnessed this in my 17 years as a psychiatric RN, in the conventional mental health system. So many people do not get relief from their mental illness, and then they have to contend with awful effects of their medications. Weight gain, brain fog, no energy, sleeping all the time, no libido, no creativity, sigma and shame. No one should be subjected to these things. As well, there's hope. There are many things that can be helpful. There's no one size fit all approach that works for everyone. So don't give up! I share my approach and what worked for me, which was simple, but powerful lifestyle interventions on my channel. Have you explored additional lifestyle interventions and do you have enough support?

That's such a terrible way to treat someone who is already down, it's like kicking them while they're on the ground. Psychiatric medications do not work for everyone - some people cannot tolerate them, others get horrific side effects, and yet many more prefer not to be on them. There's a huge non-compliance issue in psychiatry, not because those medications work for everyone and they're great. Even at the best of times, they work partially - 30-40% of the time. People who are "treatment resistant" which by the way is the wrong label to put on anyone. The question is why are these medications not working for them? And what else can be explored that would make a difference for them? What can we do to alleviate your suffering if this doesn't work? What else can be done? what else? what else? That takes curiosity, time, patience, persistence, hope, integrity, and compassion. It's easy to label someone "treatment resistant" and wash your hands off of their care. How do you sleep at night with yourself when you know your client is still deeply suffering? How awful and dehumanizing! There's so much that can be explored to help a human being. There is always hope for everyone. No one is hopeless. No one should have to battle mental illness on their own. Certainly they don't need a final judgement and left to their own devices. How are you doing now? What supports do you have in place to look after yourself? Do you have access to a mental health advocate? Or more compassionate mental health professionals? Best regards,

@@sunkat76 It's because psychiatrist go to school for 13 years, first 8 years to medical school, and then residency for 5 years and get zero training on nutrition. The Hippocratic oath all physicians/psychiatrist take says "I will use those dietary regimens which will benefit my patients according to my greatest ability and judgment, and I will do no harm or injustice to them." This is the oath from the Greek physician Hippocrates, who is considered the "father of modern medicine". Everyone talks about "do not harm" but no one talks about what comes before that. He knew nutrition was important even back then. Well, Hippocrates would turn over his grave if he saw the land escape of nutrition and the mess that is our modern health care system. Not to mention all the ailments that people suffer from, and premature deaths caused that could be prevented by implementing simple lifestyle interventions. I agree with you, mental health professionals who hand out labels such as "treatment resistance" have no empathy, compassion, or creativity. Would you do that if it was your child? Your brother/sister? Your father/mother? "Nope, there's nothing else we can do for you. You're doomed for life." How terrifying!
