No. I'm making my bike slower. I think it would be faster without me and my fears, lack of fitness and body coordination.
@andrewince88242 жыл бұрын
My main ones to watch out for are; Wrong brake pads. Use a compound that suits how you ride, no point using sintered high-heat pads if you never build up the heat. Different compounds work better at different temperatures. Poor lubrication. If it moves, keep it lubed. Poor tyre choice. If you're an XC rider a set of 2.6 beastly DH tyres will not suit you. Likewise, a pair of low-profile 2.1 XC tyres are going to slip on fast DH runs. Get that balance. Pressure is also important. Geometry. If the bars are uncontrollably narrow/wide for you or the stem is too long/short then you'll ride slower because there's a psychology block due to reduced confidence. Suspension tuning. You'll lack traction or waste energy if it's too firm or too soft. You'll also potentially lose confidence. A lot of things impact the mind. This can cause lasting issues even when the bike is dialed. A bike that inspires confidence likewise inspires speed.

One thing not mentioned in the video which has affected me before are my pedals that weren't rotating freely. Sticky pedals were a huge drag on pedalling performance. Once I took them apart and greased them up, it was like night and day. I felt like I was riding an e-bike even though I wasn't.

Good advice. Could also add incorrect, especially too low seat height. Since raising mine I have found I am not only climbing hills a little faster but also have more energy and therefore more speed for the next section of the trail.

I had the bearings in the derailleur jockey wheel slowly dying. It took me a couple of rides to figure out that was the problem. Once I figured it out, I bought a new pair of jockey wheels and replaced both the old ones. The bike ran like new again.
@itzsillysocks6 ай бұрын
What if it’s a kid mtb?? Still work?
@paulw5756 ай бұрын
@@itzsillysocks It should, it will depend on the bike. My jockey wheels had a screw that ran through them, so I could easily unscrew them to replace them. Check if the jockey wheels on the kids bike are screwed on or whether it is a press fit. If they are screwed on, check if they spin cleanly with no chain on the bike. Mine wobbled from side to side, sounded bad (like there was grit in them), and had a spot where they would barely turn.

I had this one last week for rubbing brakes (and no brakes and everything inbetween at random)..... make sure you tighten your through axles properly. 5:23 how is a punture more dangerous than a damaged wheel? Also puncture repair kits are a thing as are travel pumps. Everyone should be carrying both 24/7

Could you do a video on how tire selection can slow you down? Width, casing, pressure, profile... I recently rode a friend's bike that was similar but with thinner, XCish tires. It made a huge difference in the climbs but made me nervous on the singletrack.
@bikingwithryan59682 жыл бұрын
It’s all ok what you want to sacrifice here and there. You can’t have a rough tire the rolls fast like a xc tire and the other way around.

Best advice I could give a cycling enthusiast would be to pick up a full/part time gig at a reputable bike shop and turn some wrenches for a season. You won't make any money because you'll spend it all on parts ;) BUT you'll learn a ton and avoid costly home maintenance mistakes. Plus bike store employee discount baby! Skip all the box stores and sport checks. They don't "build" bikes, they just assemble them.

Suspension... Soft is slow but has more control, hard is fast but loose and sketchy. Also how do you know how fast someone rides to even state that they should be running less pressure? Everyone I know smashes there amount of travel and everyone has more than recommend by manufacturer, also I don't think it matters how fast you are it's more about what you ride, the place I ride you tend to use about 70/80% for 90% of the time but every now and again you'll use the full amount coming of a crazy rock drop or jump yet I'm running 20% sag, buy your reckoning I should be lowering it it improve small bump whereas I'd say you need to run harder to skip over the roots / rocks etc

Three simple steps to avoid all of this... 1: Clean your bike after a long ride, everything from the frame to the chain, 2: Give it a full service once a month, maybe twice a month if you're riding it a lot, 3: ALWAYS check it over before taking it out for a ride.

My rear 29 rim flexes on a hard turn and I think the spokes need to be adjusted on a 2018 Rift Zone 3. I tightened the frame pivots and checked/cleaned/ lubed the top frame bearings. Anyone experienced this strange sensation on a full suspension bike?
@AttaboyLEGO2 жыл бұрын
My 29er is a hardtail but I do notice the flex. Bigger wheels bend sideways more. I've tried the same corners on the 29er and on my old 20" (full suspension) kids' bike, and the smaller bike and its rims actually feel more solid despite worn out pivots and all.
